Thanks everyone. I jad my whooping cough jab at 16 weeks I didn't find it stung when I first had it done but my arm was aching the following day.

LouLou0505 · 04/08/2021 13:00

It’s honestly fine! I’m so good with pain but I’d say that felt like if someone heated up a spoon and put it on your arm 😂 weird I know hahaha! Everyone is so different and let’s be honest one tiny jab is nothing like what we will be going through 😂

burtle4 · 04/08/2021 13:04

I've just come back from having the first vaccine 😬 while I was waiting I overheard someone say they had decided to come and get it done because one of his friends had just died from it so it gave him the kick up the bum to get it. Made me feel like I'd made the right decision, plus there were loads of pregnant women there. Now just to hope I don't get a reaction!

LAR96 · 04/08/2021 13:10

@burtle4 ahh well done for being so brave! I was so nervous when i went for mine, everyone is entitled to their own opinion as long as you know you have made the right decision for yourself you will be fine x

@jade0881 thank you

JW2021 · 04/08/2021 13:16

Ok ladies…… here’s hoping everyone is well and looking forward to the 20 week scan as am I - so is there any clear definition full or empty bladder? Also off-topic what do we all do for a living ? are there any lucky stay at home moms just thought it would be fun to ask Hope you don’t think I’m prying 🤷🏼

jade0881 · 04/08/2021 13:18

@JW2021 I'm a nurse for the nhs so there is no time to be sitting at home unfortunately what about you x

Curlymam88 · 04/08/2021 13:18

@burtle4 hope you don't have any side effects for the jab. Take it extra easy Smile
My daughter had the tape measure out this morning and we looked at the size of baby which is at 20 weeks about 25cm. It kind of freaked me out to see the baby is that size already!!!

LouLou0505 · 04/08/2021 13:28

@JW2021 - when I got in they asked if I do have a full bladder. I said yes but I didn’t as I forgot I’ve been so busy with work this morning!!

I think maybe have a drink an hour before but I don’t think you need to go wild. We could see him so perfectly

LAR96 · 04/08/2021 13:39

@JW2021 I work in sales, so based in an office, they have agreed to let me work from home from September due to Covid and being more comfortable :)

JW2021 · 04/08/2021 14:16

As you probably know I live in the USA Florida although right now it’s rainy season so not quite so sunny as you may think. I’ve lived here 27 years I’m the manager of a cruise ship Key West Express you can Google it if interested I sit at a desk most days thanks for everyone’s comments always so interesting to see what you ladies are up too - even though I’m so far away I feel so connected with you all thank you!

2020mission · 04/08/2021 15:41

@JW2021 I think it's at least a glass of water before the 20 week scan.

I work as a website developer so have been able to work from home during the pandemic as I have a work laptop and my job is easily done from home. My line manager doesn't seem to be pushing me back into the office anytime soon so should be able to keep safe at home for the coming months 🤞

Curlymam88 · 04/08/2021 15:41

Can I ask your opinions on something please...my partner has come out and said he wants to baptise the baby. He's a Catholic but doesn't go to church himself. It's more of a his father, grandfather and mother etc has been baptised so he wants the baby to be. Me however I don't believe in any religion. What are your views on this? I dont believe a baby should be baptised until they can make their own minds up whether to be Catholic or not. I've had him saying she is going to be baptised and he'll take her himself!!! Surely the church will need both parents permission and will need proof that he is a practising Catholic that goes to church?
I'm quite upset by this at the moment. We've had a massive argument over it.

2020mission · 04/08/2021 15:51

@Curlymam88 I have a friend who's fiancé is catholic and wanted the same, but he's atheist. He had to actually go and attend church services a few times before they allowed their baby to be baptised. It possibly varies across different churches?

I'm not religious at all so I completely get why you don't want to bother with it all. It's a tough one as it's very much something a non religious person can go along with even if they don't really believe in it especially since it's a one time thing that a baby won't even remember, but it would be different if he then wants to place them into a catholic school or have them continue to attend church. I've went to a number of family christenings despite not being religious in any way just as it's what they wanted.

Your little one can definitely make their own mind up when they are older. I've had friends who went to catholic school end up becoming atheist, it won't necessarily set them on their decision for life.

Curlymam88 · 04/08/2021 16:02

@2020mission thank you. I know my partner definitely won't go to church now. I can see where you're coming from that even if she does get baptised she doesn't necessarily have to become a Catholic? I asked him ehat the reason for wanting her to be baptised what does it mean but all I had was because he's Catholic. He couldn't give me a reason as to why she should be.

lovebeingmum9 · 04/08/2021 16:12

@LouLou0505 congrats on your scan 💙
@Curlymam88 good luck for your scan tomorrow

Reminds me I still need to book my whooping jab!
@burtle4 glad your 1st vaccine went well....again its another thing I need to book my mind is like a sieve! lol
@JW2021 I've been a stay at home mum for the last 9 years since hubby and I had our 1st (now expecting our 5th) i used to be a shop assistant before, but we always decided we would take the financial pinch so I could stay home and raise our children! I also did a year of being a weekend viewing guide recently on Saturdays and hubby stayed home with children but i had to give up as hubbies work shift changed.....I feel very lucky and blessed but its definitely not the easy option, I've made alot of sacrifices (as we all do) and give my absolute all to our children....but of course totally worth it! Hubby works super hard too... working 2 jobs throughout pandemic 1 of which is his own business which he started last year and has taken off so well and is the extra income we've not had until now! probably helped us decide to have 5th & final child 😊 x

SouthwestSis · 04/08/2021 16:23

Well done @burtle4 for getting your first jab!
Remember you still need to be really careful just now as you don't even start building up any antibodies until 2-3 weeks after jab number 1.
So sad to hear stories of unvaccinated pregnant ladies ending up in hospital severely unwell.

lovebeingmum9 · 04/08/2021 16:29

@Curlymam88 Its hard when you both disagree over something Flowers Hubby and I have had all 4 of our children baptised in the same church we got baptised and married in (neither of us are really Christian lol) we fell in love with the church, vicar wanted us to get christened if we were to be married there which we did.....we like to have traditions, our parents/grandparents all had church weddings and christenings and we wanted to carry the tradition on.....our children attend a Christian school again not because we are 'christian' but because its the closest school to our house.....having said that it does have some lovely values that I agree with! I also attended a Christian school as a child because it was closest to our house (my whole family were and still are atheist) lol my big bro and sis both got christened but parents didn't bother with me but I was the only one to have a church wedding so needed to be,so got baptised with hubby at 19 & 20 not long before our wedding! 🤣

tuxedocat · 04/08/2021 18:18

@Curlymam88 oh thats tough. Just remember you don’t need to make a decision right now but both of your views are important. If he can’t get a solid reason as to why I would personally not make any decisions right now. I am not religious but you could always agree on how you feel when baby is here?

@LouLou0505 congrats on the scan ❤️

@burtle4 congrats on the vaccine - still no decision made on mine yet. Hope you feel ok!

@JW2021 wow, your job sounds cool! I’ve always wanted to visit Florida - my mums paternal dad went to retire in Ft Lauderdale but sadly we lost contact!
I am a director of a family business we do lots of transportation around Europe. So no stay at home for me, but I do take my son to work with me. It’s wild everyday!

My 20w scan is tomorrow. No news on when my whooping cough jab is, I’d assume about 28w+ and I won’t see my MW until October now!

LouLou0505 · 04/08/2021 18:26

@tuxedocat - I think you’ll just be able to mention it and they might be able to fit you in there and then 😊

xTinkerbell · 04/08/2021 19:06

@Curlymam88 my partner and I are catholic. I’m practising, he isn’t. We had DS baptised because my partner basically left it up to me. Our priest definitely wouldn’t have done it if neither of us had been practising though.

@burtle4 well done on getting the first jab. Did you have Pfizer or moderna? I think im going to pop by a drop in tomorrow. Im supposed to have an appointment on Friday but my whooping cough is 6 days later and been recommended by consultant to leave 7 days between so thinking of popping by a drop in.

burtle4 · 04/08/2021 19:23

@xTinkerbell it was the Pfizer, feeling ok so far, just a bruised feeling on my arm....

I may sound stupid but is being baptised the same as being christened? Me and my brothers weren't christened but my husband and I decided to christen our kids, not because we're massively religious but more because it was our way of celebrating our children into the world. It's a very personal choice but I don't think doing it necessarily means baby will have to grow up to be a God worshiper x

xTinkerbell · 04/08/2021 19:58

@burtle4 I think that’s what I’ll have if I go to drop in.

Very similar, baptised is catholic but even at that I say both.

Curlymam88 · 04/08/2021 20:08

Thanks for all the replies. It's good to hear everyone's different views and experiences on it. I thought he would have to be practicing because I thought the whole point of a baptism is to 'promise to God' to bring baby up Catholic. But if he's not practicing How's he going to do that.
This afternoon I just ended up shortening the babys curtains for her nursery. Kept my mind occupied

jade0881 · 04/08/2021 20:28

@Curlymam88 hey hun, well personally my daughter didn't get christened until eldest was about 10 and youngest was 3/4. However that wasn't by choice. When my OH's grandma came from America Florida she wanted to do something as she a Christian. Me and my partner believe in god but don't attend church. Only time we do attend is if OH auntie ask us too.
I mean I think it should be a joint decision not just your partners. Are all your other children baptised?
