Is this name too safe?

… it is Jack. DH’s dad’s name and we do both love it. But I’m scared it might be a bit too ‘safe’ and maybe a tiny bit boring?! What do you think?

I also like:
Louie
Alf/Alfie
Jake
Frankie (not 100% on this)

DH is quite fussy with boys names! If you think it is boring, have you got any other suggestions? We had our girl name nailed on but found out we’re having a boy yesterday Grin which I’m ecstatic about, although it’s back to the drawing board for names!

It’s classic and lovely. My favourite name on your list.

Will naming after one side of the family cause ructions elsewhere, though? Most people I know who have done this seem to use other family names for other children, or try and shoehorn another name in somewhere to keep the peace. If that doesn’t affect you then go for it!

custardbear · 14/07/2021 06:52

It's the nicest and most classic name on your list. I'd go with Jack personally

3Lions · 14/07/2021 07:04

It's nice.

merrymelody · 14/07/2021 07:06

I love Jack! It's my grandad's name so I'm biased.Smile

StepladderToHeaven · 14/07/2021 07:07

From your list I like Jack and Jake best.

MissBPotter · 14/07/2021 07:07

I like Jack, it’s much better than the rest of your list and it is a classic, would have been a strong contenders if we were having a boy.

nancywhitehead · 14/07/2021 07:10

Jack is a lovely name. Never goes out of fashion. I chose this name for a child in my family :) I love it.

Lcachu · 14/07/2021 07:13

Can be like Meet the Fockers film. Jack and Little Jack (LJ)

MissChanandlerBong22 · 14/07/2021 07:14

It’s a lovely name. I personally think safe is a good thing when choosing names!

Standrewsschool · 14/07/2021 07:21

Nice classic name.

Can you choose a similar name and use Jack as a nn?

Jacob
Jackson
Jackman
Jaco
Jaxson

bhy123 · 14/07/2021 07:23

I have a Jack. There are times I wonder if it's not as classy as my first son's name which is longer and more traditional. Be prepared for lots of derivatives (other people have called him Jacko, Jacky, Jacksy (not so good for obvious reasons), J-dog (??)) rather than you picking a name that won't be shortened or altered.

Not so keen on the other names on the list but I definitely err on the conservative side of names.

Violet1988 · 14/07/2021 07:24

My December due baby is likely to be a Jack if it turns out to be a boy. I love the name Jack x

Terrazzo · 14/07/2021 07:25

I’d say it’s as safe as your other choices. So yes. But in real life I don’t know any Jacks. I like it.

Letsplough · 14/07/2021 07:25

Stick with Jack after his grandad, it's a lovely tribute and a lovely name. It would be silly to change for fear of being safe.

Skyla2005 · 14/07/2021 07:26

It's too popular
Louis is lovely. How about Joshua

Purple21 · 14/07/2021 07:27

I like it!
I feel the Jack generation happened when I was younger and there was loads of Jacks!
Personally don't know any child called Jack now!

CrouchEndTiger12 · 14/07/2021 07:30

Safe?!

You choose as a name you like. It is lovely. Can't be shortened.

Louie should really be Louis

Frankie was a girls nn for Francesca I thought?

Constellationstation · 14/07/2021 07:31

Love the name Jack, not Jake so much. Jacob is nice

0None0 · 14/07/2021 07:32

Jack is very very common. How about John, or Jaxson, and Jack for short?

Travielkapelka · 14/07/2021 07:33

I think it’s lovely and not so popular anymore but definitely a classic. Louie is Louis, and Jaxson is truly the worst spelling on the planet

Duvetflower · 14/07/2021 07:37

Jack's fine, though I prefer it as a nickname for John.

Crunchyorsmooth · 14/07/2021 07:40

I love Jack! I like it much better than Jake or Jackson etc. My friend has a Jack and used Alexander as the middle name.

Jent13c · 14/07/2021 07:41

We almost had a Jack twice. Was a wee bit popular for me but very timeless and I still wouldn't discount it if I had another. Agree boys are a nightmare. I have a friend who's boys have 3 names each...I could barely come up with 1 for each of my boys!

Willwebebuyingnumber11 · 14/07/2021 07:42

Jack is a lovely name and the best on your list by far.

bruffin · 14/07/2021 07:42

Was grandad actually Jack, as Jack use to be a diminutive for John
