Is this name too safe?

… it is Jack. DH’s dad’s name and we do both love it. But I’m scared it might be a bit too ‘safe’ and maybe a tiny bit boring?! What do you think?

I also like:
Louie
Alf/Alfie
Jake
Frankie (not 100% on this)

DH is quite fussy with boys names! If you think it is boring, have you got any other suggestions? We had our girl name nailed on but found out we’re having a boy yesterday Grin which I’m ecstatic about, although it’s back to the drawing board for names!

OP posts:

All of your list is quite safe & Jack/Jake are probably the two where you might not get another in class (assuming Louie spelt Louis).

I’ve never met a non-cheeky Jack!

GroggyLegs · 14/07/2021 07:46

I like it, it's a name that will grow with him.

Alfie and Louie are lovely for a chubby toddler but won't fit a 16 stone man so well IMO.

TomRipley · 14/07/2021 07:50

Love Jack.

It's a name that suits a baby, boy, teen, man and old man.

changingstages · 14/07/2021 07:55

I can't believe anyone would suggest the absolutely awful Jaxson instead of Jack.

It's a very, very common name so he'll probably end up being called Jack xxSurnamexx at school but it's a very nice name and I don't think that should put you off.

UndeadSlut · 14/07/2021 07:59

It's a really nice, classic name. Will always be quite popular, unlikely to be the only one in a school, possible will not be the only one in a class!
Alfie is way more "trendy" so there will be more of them. Personally I also think Jack is nicer than Alfie but that's up to you.
I also really like Jake, would this be full name or short for Jacob? I know both and they're both lovely.
In short (too late) I think all your names are ok and usable, I'd go for Jack or Jake.

Chelyanne · 14/07/2021 08:01

Less safe... more classic

shallIswim · 14/07/2021 08:02

Jack works well for man and boy,

MrCoulsonRocksMyWorld · 14/07/2021 08:13

I actually prefer Frankie (would put Francis on the BC) and Louie, spelled Louis.

Pretty sure Jack is a diminutive for something else (John?) which would bother me, but if you absolutely love it obviously go for it! It’s a really nice name.

ShutUpaYourFace · 14/07/2021 08:20

Why is everyone saying Louie spelt Louis?
My boy is called Louie and spelt as such.
It's a name in its own right.
Jack is far too common.
I also know a Lewie!

TheDaydreamBelievers · 14/07/2021 08:25

Jack is a nice classic name but has been top 50 names for a v long time, so if it being popular is a negative for you then I'd swerve it. The other names you like are all hugely popular right now (top 20) , apart from Jake which is less common. However, they are all fine names!

Sleepyquest · 14/07/2021 08:49

Please do not call your baby Jackman as pp said!

Jack is fine, it is safe and there are a LOT about. But it ages well and is a classic! Will suit your child no matter their age.

Nat4392 · 14/07/2021 10:38

Jack is the best name on the list. It’s strong and timeless. Go with Jack 😊

daisypond · 14/07/2021 10:41

Best head over to the Baby Names board to have your names picked over.
I like Jack best out of your options, but I would prefer Louis if spelled that way, not Louie.

Whogotdakeystomabeamer · 14/07/2021 10:43

Louie is Louis

Nah, it's Louie
I have one, we're not French. And I dislike the S spelling.
It also saves people thinking it's pronounced Lewis.

walkoflifewoohoo · 14/07/2021 11:01

Safe from what? Such a strange way to think.

Jack is a fine name. Better than jaxson which isn't

Dahlia5 · 14/07/2021 11:14

All the grown up Jacks I've known are lovely guys! For me it's a nice name - masculine and classic.
No to Frankie lol

Zhampagne · 14/07/2021 11:28

Jack is fine but it is very very very popular and has been for a very very very long time. Put it into names.darkgreener.com/ to make sure you know just how popular it is before you make your final decision.

IamnotwhouthinkIam · 14/07/2021 11:34

Jack is lovely - it's just very popular. It's by far the most classic name on your list though (and so the least likely to date) so would be my pick.

John (nn Jack) would be rarer/braver now, but it looks like you prefer nickname type names? Maybe consider Max - classic nickname but less popular than Jack.

merrymelody · 15/07/2021 06:00

James is lovely also.

SupermanWithTheGreyHair · 15/07/2021 06:29

It’s classic as others have said. I don’t really like it but it’s a perfectly good name and just personal taste. It good for all ages too.

From your list I like Louie and Jake. I like Jacob a lot too, similar but not on your list.

My favourite boys name is my sons, which I won’t post on here but is quite a classic name. If I had another baby boy (I won’t 🤣), then I’d call him Alexander, Theo, Oscar or Jacob.

LivingLaVidaCovid · 15/07/2021 06:30

Nicest name on the list by far

Saltyslug · 15/07/2021 06:35

Jack, frankie, Louie all great names

RosemaryRosemary · 15/07/2021 06:37

Jack is the best
The “ie” names will date if used as the full name

MitheringSunday · 15/07/2021 06:38

All the names on your list have a very strong 'born in the early part of the 21st century' feel. If that's what you mean by 'safe', then yes. I've never liked Jack and don't understand the love for it, but there's nothing 'wrong' with it as a name.

I like Louis and Francis but would never give Louie or Frankie as a birth cert name.

shallIswim · 15/07/2021 08:48

But Louis is pronounced Louie? Because Lewis is errr Lewis.
Being a teacher must be a minefield!
Stick with Jack. Can't get that wrong, and becomes a fine Man's name too
