This is to all those who spent a long time TTC naturally and put their eventual success down to something - or a combination of things - they did.

For example, for my first pregnancy, I had six months of accupunture and took all the supplements recommended in the book 'It Starts with the Egg' for nearly three months. Coincidence? Possibly, but it seems unlikley I was getting more fertile by myself.

Professionals often don't like to commit themselves - so I'd like to gather a body of anecdotal evidence as to what seems to help conception - for myself and for everyone else who's trying.

Thanks!

We had sex every day from cycle day 8 - 15. Except I missed cycle day 14 (ovulation day) as I was visiting a friend and was away. Have been pregnant twice first month trying using this method

EssentialHummus · 03/07/2021 16:58

We weren’t trying for ages so I’m not sure I’m the right person to answer but -

BBT to figure out when ovulation was happening
Conceive+
Doing a headstand after sex Grin

Rosieposy89 · 03/07/2021 17:01

2 years to get our BFP. 28+5 and we conceived naturally 2 months after a failed IVF cycle. The month we conceived I had mentally given up on it. I ate what I wanted, drank and wasn't taking my supplements. We had sex when we wanted. When we were trying we tried everything...tracking ovulation, fertility lube, supplements etc. It obviously doesn't work for me! I do wonder if the IVF meds kicked my body into action or if relaxing about it really does work

SpanishBump · 03/07/2021 17:15

Hmm. I failed IVF and IUI just before conceiving naturally, too. But they say the pill (used for assisted repro) among other things, can sort of reset your system. Or any big change.

I gave up. Stopped tracking. Was pg that month.

AlexiaRees · 03/07/2021 17:40

Met my handsome boyfriend at 18 then we just thought to decide to have a baby😩 apparently we are preggers with 2 kids‼️‼️‼️‼️

Smartiepants79 · 03/07/2021 18:00

Get an appointment to start IVF! Not me but 2 close family members found out they were expecting the week they were due to start treatment!
My sister did acupuncture.
For me, it was just sex at the right time of the month but I was lucky and we didn’t wait too long!

d2121 · 03/07/2021 18:04

We conceived naturally after 2 years trying. The month we conceived, I had just left a really stressful job and was about to start something new; had weekly acupuncture; used pre-seed; monitored BBT and cervical mucus; and used the ferti-lily conception cup. It was either one or all of these things that did the trick! We had just been referred for fertility treatment so it was such an amazing shock when I didn't get my period!

Flutterby8 · 03/07/2021 18:06

We had been trying for 3 years (on and off) with zero success.
We had initial fertility investigations as in bloods, ultrasound scans and semen analysis for DP and were on the list for a fertility referral.
I had been taking BBT every day as well and charted EVERYTHING.

The only change was I started taking Pregnacare conception the month before we conceived and used conceive plus on the cycle I fell pregnant. Id previously just been taking supermarket own brand folic acid and vitamin D.
Id also had a large amount of stress taken off of my shoulders which may have helped.

Ovulation testing and tracking my cycle with an app (Clue).

M0nkeybars · 03/07/2021 18:10

We did 9 cycles of IVF with 2 miscarriages over 5 years. We called the hospital to cancel our remaining cycles (two blastocysts left) of IVF after our last failed cycle as we just couldn't put ourselves through it again, mentally or physically. Grieved for our biological children we'd never have. Had meetings with adoption agencies.

That very month we fell pregnant naturally. Having a wee girl and we're over the moon 🥰

TripleSeptic · 03/07/2021 18:13

#1 got lucky first month of not taking the pill, MMC.

#2 Went back on the pill after MMC, tried every month for 6 months, super healthy, supplements, ovulation tests. NOTHING. Then I got the cold and took loads of co codamol, decongestants, cider, had a weekend away (sick) and got lucky after too many cider.

M0nkeybars · 03/07/2021 18:14

I think the immense pressure of IVF and TTC being lifted off our shoulders helped things x

girlmom21 · 03/07/2021 18:18

I downloaded the OC app. We'd tried with no luck for 18 months then conceived within 2 months with the help of the app.

HappyDaysToCome · 03/07/2021 18:18

My sister tried for many many years, embarking on IVF with almost no hope of success. Same time I was ttc, we sat and held our cousin’s newborn for ages, and smelt him and adored him, and we both got pregnant that month. I think that one is an old wives tale but it felt true at the time.

On a more practical note, she had an excellent IVF clinic, and I didn’t realise how short my cycles are so was aiming at the wrong part of the month I suspect.

choccrumpet · 03/07/2021 18:38

I did about a months worth of acupuncture, sorted myself out mentally and felt much happier / accepting that conceiving was difficult, took soy isoflavones for the second month as well as progessence and we had a positive on month 11 of trying

RoseAndGeranium · 03/07/2021 18:54

It’s controversial in here, and it’s clearly not right for everyone, but I took agnus castus (vitex). Did a ton of research into what conditions it’s good for, how it works, and dosage. Decided it was worth a shot for me. Both times I tried it I was pregnant in the first month (I’d been trying for 8 months and 4 months before taking the AC). Much more fertile cm and a longer gap between period and ovulation than usual on both occasions so I’m convinced it was the AC that made the difference. I had previously got pregnant without AC, and that took 8 months. I also took ubiquinol and the usual supplements before all three of those bfps, and I’d been doing some light running for a few months as well.

Ozberry · 03/07/2021 19:03

I was tracking BBT to NOT get pregnant. One false move and I was up the duff. Best mistake of my life!

chelle862 · 03/07/2021 19:28

I started taking inositol, apparently it helps with pcos and hormones. My cat died and I was devastated. I didn't care about anything, taking pills, tracking cycles. Pregnancy was the last thing on my mind!

Mrstowelll · 03/07/2021 19:33

The only difference for all pregnancies was not getting up again straight after… I.e not getting straight up for a wee etc. Just lying down for an extra half hour!

Thefaceofboe · 03/07/2021 19:36

After 2.5 years of trying, didn’t try one month because I had a death in the family and it was the last thing on my mind, pregnant that month Grin

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 03/07/2021 19:40

It took us 18 months, I was referred to the infertility clinic but managed to fall pregnant before I actually started any treatments.

The month I conceived we had sex 5 times a week for 2 weeks with ovulation somewhere in the middle of that. We used conceive plus lube too.

In the preceding few months I had lost some weight (around a stone and a half), and in the 2 weeks immediately before and the week following ovulation I really ramped up my exercise regimen too.

BeansMeansBeans · 03/07/2021 19:50

Hey fir those of your who've had acupuncture... What do you have acupuncture for? As in, what is the service you request? Fertility acupuncture?

SamprasTheRabbit · 03/07/2021 19:55

Accupuncture. Tried for two years and had one early MC in that time. Had accupuncture and fell pg the first cycle after starting.
Maybe woo/maybe coincidence/maybe it just made me 'relax' (like everyone tells you to do, whilst scoffing supplements, tracking cm, testing your temp daily and having sex regimentally every other bloody day 🙄).
We're TTC again and I'm giving it three months before running back into the arms of my acupuncturist 😁

BeansMeansBeans · 03/07/2021 19:56
