This is to all those who spent a long time TTC naturally and put their eventual success down to something - or a combination of things - they did.

For example, for my first pregnancy, I had six months of accupunture and took all the supplements recommended in the book 'It Starts with the Egg' for nearly three months. Coincidence? Possibly, but it seems unlikley I was getting more fertile by myself.

Professionals often don't like to commit themselves - so I'd like to gather a body of anecdotal evidence as to what seems to help conception - for myself and for everyone else who's trying.

Thanks!

Pre-seed and they sperm meets egg plan! The month I conceived was the first time we’d kept going past ovulation for a few days, as much as we wanted to stop 🙈 also didn’t go for baths around ovulation and through the 2 week wait the month it happened, used to go for one every night

I have pcos, we tried for a year and had two mcs before this current pregnancy (25 weeks).

I take metformin and myo inositol which I believe helped me ovulate every month. We also did it every other day through my cycle and every day during my fertile window (according to my app) my husband also started taking men’s health vitamins which helped his sperm count.

When I got pregnant this time I started taking aspirin from ovulation and progesterone from 6 weeks. I think these also really helped!

We'd been trying for 2 years with no success.

That month we had no sex for several weeks because DH was really sick with the flu. Then his granny died, and we had several family members staying with us for a few days to attend the funeral.

We ended up sleeping in a single bed in the spare room. One thing led to another, and DD was born 9 months later.

Another one who conceived a month of not trying. I have a theory about this actually. The males of any species, including human men, can sense when a female is fertile and ovulating. If you're not on hormonal contraception you'll definitely notice your partner or husband sniffing around during ovulation time. Once you abandon all the ovulation testing and apps and leave it to instinct they'll get you before too long Shock

Lost 2.5 stone
Husband quit drinking and caffeine
Conceive+
Legs up the wall for half an hour

We were TTC for 3 years.

DC2 due this month and we conceived after 2 months with no lifestyle changes.

We were trying for over 2 years. 1 tube blocked and 1 partially obstructed. I was waiting for Covid restrictions to be over so I could book IVF in Greece.
As others said it was a cycle I'd given up on tracking, supplements and good nutrition, and 7 months after an HSG, which I personally think is what helped. I think the medium unblocked the tube just enough.

First time:

  • I had lost several stone and was in the very top of my healthy BMI range.
  • I took prenatal vitamins.
  • I used Preseed instead of normal lube.
  • Lying down, pillow under bum, legs in the air after sex.

Second time:

  • I was in the overweight category but had for at least the previous 6 weeks been eating low sugar and low calorie, and was on a downward weight trajectory.
  • Prenatal vitamins.
  • Ordinary lube.
  • Lying down but no legs in the air.
  • I’d had my AZ Covid vaccine that cycle!

1 year of trying, first cycle of ivf worked. So far so good

zeromango · 04/07/2021 09:01

We used conception vitamins over 3 months prior, I drank grapefruit juice during my fertile week and used sperm friendly lube. No idea what worked (if any) but fell pregnant that same month

Relaxing clearly helps a lot for many people. Because time wasn’t (and is now even less) on my side, I think my first pregnancy happened through sheer determination on my part - although I’m sure lots of sex while on a short break helped!

I was tracking my ovulation and I had taken the helping to conceive pills. But the month I got pregnant which was 16 months after a MMC and I had given up any hope we had only dtd twice that whole month so I was very surprised it happened then. I found it hard not to want to obsess over ovulation so I was kind of doing it from curiosity and not pinning much hope on it

elvis4nuts · 04/07/2021 12:53

Fell pregnant first month of trying, twice.
Kept an eye out for the egg white consistency discharge that comes with ovulating. Bobs your uncle.

Second time I was still breastfeeding my 9 month old so the speed did take me by surprise.

The female body is a marvellous thing!

Peachesandhoople · 04/07/2021 14:05

Broke my ankle. Had been trying 8 months. Mullered my ankle one month but decided to not let a plaster cast get in the way. Bam. Knocked up.

Second time around. One time danger sex. Baby 2 on the way. Oops.
