This is to all those who spent a long time TTC naturally and put their eventual success down to something - or a combination of things - they did.

For example, for my first pregnancy, I had six months of accupunture and took all the supplements recommended in the book 'It Starts with the Egg' for nearly three months. Coincidence? Possibly, but it seems unlikley I was getting more fertile by myself.

Professionals often don't like to commit themselves - so I'd like to gather a body of anecdotal evidence as to what seems to help conception - for myself and for everyone else who's trying.

Thanks!

I came off the pill in January and conceived in April/May. (I have 40 day cycles so I’d only had three periods.) so I may not qualify as someone who was trying for very long.

However, I read lots of reviews on Amazon for Pregnacare trying to conceive (for him and her) that said the first month after starting them they had conceived, so I decided to give them ago. Low and behold one month of taking them and we conceived. May well have been a coincidence though.

Peachee · 03/07/2021 20:12

Another one who gave up.. once I have up that month I conceived..
It took around 6 months.
This time around I just didn’t care from the start and took things as they came.. fell pregnant in first month and had sex twice..

Mamaux · 03/07/2021 20:25

I was tracking BBT to try and conceive. I ended up getting my dream job and decided to stop trying (ironically using BBT to not conceive); pregnant that same month...

Elune · 03/07/2021 21:00

I've used Conceive Plus twice and both times I've ended up pregnant. Probably no link, but the first time we had been trying for 6 months with meticulous timing and I got pregnant the first time I used it, and this time round I used it the first time we had 'trying' sex and got pregnant. Confirmation bias I'm sure but for the sake of a few quid I'll happily recommend it!

Angus castus has worked for a few of my friends. I think it was jan de vries book or website. Worth a go.

Eleoura · 03/07/2021 21:19

TTC 4yrs, but not super seriously (off pill, but not tracking anything). I worked away alot with a stressful job. Both DH and I were overweight- but only just. We both lost 10kg, starting exercising then I became redundant. Went abroad and got pregnant that month. Sadly ended in MC, but at least I knew I could actually concieve.

Inthesky42 · 03/07/2021 21:39

Started taking pregnacare conception, went on holiday, stopped tracking / worrying about when we had sex. Had lots of sex but just because we felt like it. Drank too much wine but had a lovely time. Got pregnant!

ReginaaPhalange · 03/07/2021 21:39

I stopped tracking ovulation the week I knew I was around that window. I also bought a couple of sexy night wear from Ann summers and just surprised my husband a couple of times rather than saying "right come on.... clock is ticking". Had sex on the Saturday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday that week as I wasn't tracking my peak opks and that's what done it for us.

Pitstop1986 · 03/07/2021 21:40

I stopped drinking, ate really healthily, took vitamins, exercised, tracked my bbt...

After months of nothing, I got a blood test done for female hormones. All my levels were low and the endocrinologist who analysed the results said it was possible that I wasn't ovulating. I booked a private appointment with another endocrinologist to get some advice/help.

In the meantime, I gave up actively TTC, started drinking again and eating takeaways, also got the Covid vaccination (I had put off getting it previously as they said not suitable for TTC). Only had sex once that month as OH had a huge coldsore so I wouldn't let him near me.

Thought that the vaccine had messed up my cycle, but after period was well over a week late, I thought I'd test just to rule it out. Got my BFP!

ReginaaPhalange · 03/07/2021 21:41

Oh I also lost 6lbs in 4 weeks and I also think that had something to do with it

popcornlover13 · 03/07/2021 21:41

Took Agnus castus on the 4th month and had sex pretty much every day for 2 weeks, ended up pregnant that month xx

TheSunShinesBrighter · 03/07/2021 21:41

After nearly 3 years of nothing I went part time in my stressful job.
I was pregnant within 3 months...

ReginaaPhalange · 03/07/2021 21:42

Oh oh sorry haha! Wish I could just edit posts....

I didn't stop drinking my beloved bottle of red wine that cycle too. I love a bottle of red over the two nights (Friday and Saturday... same bottle) and I drank a glass the day before I got my bfp! Just completely shut off from tracking and stopping drinking etc!

vikmc87 · 03/07/2021 21:52

We were actively trying for a year, tracking cycles, popping vitamins, changed diets, more exercise and nothing was happening. I have a stressful job which closes down for Christmas, I got pregnant during the seasonal closure but I had also started using Ferti-lily. I had seen a few reviews and didn’t believe the hype. I actually bought 2, you are only supposed to use it for 6 cycles.

This might be TMI- Essentially, it’s something you pop in straight after dtd and it helps the swimmers stay up there. It look like a moon cup with a little tail so you can pull it out after 15 mins.

It worked 1st time and I am currently 27+6 weeks pregnant. It was either the ferti-lily, not being stressed or both.

Good luck x

JackJack84 · 03/07/2021 21:57

TTC for 10 years. Tried acupuncture, ovulation tracking, meditation, diet etc. in the past.

After 2 traumatic losses I pretty much gave up, DTD once in February & now I'm 20 weeks!

PinkCast · 03/07/2021 21:59

May not be in the spirit of the thread, but....
Got drunk, had sex, got pregnant.

gemgem31 · 03/07/2021 22:01

We had sex every other day, I also gave up drinking so much and did lots of walking.
Also started to eat better and more often. It happened after trying for 15 months 💗

minipie · 03/07/2021 22:05

Got my thyroid tested, started on thyroxine

Also booked an expensive scuba diving holiday. Got my positive the first day 🤦‍♀️

freckledsloth · 03/07/2021 22:09

Booked a blowout holiday to Las Vegas for my 31st birthday after 10 months of BFNs, thinking we'd get back on it once we got back to the UK. I'm convinced that a combination of that plus the departure of two toxic work colleagues were the reason I got my BFP on my birthday in Vegas.

Quornflakegirl · 03/07/2021 22:16

I am fortunate to feel when I ovulate (in fact I feel that I ovulate on both sides) and its like clockwork 10 days after my period. We dtd the day I ovulated and the next day. I also lay in bed with my knees bent and feet against the wall for 20 minutes . It worked, doubly, I had Dcda twins.

Eleoura · 03/07/2021 22:24

@Quornflakegirl- this is called mittelschmerz, meaning middle pain where you can feel ovulation. There is no word in English!

Metallicalover · 03/07/2021 22:33

Getting bloody stressed after a failed IVF cycle and dreading starting another cycle next month so we had basically stressed sex that month aka I'm ovulating you need to come home now.

Anyone who says 'see you just to relax and you'll get pregnant' talks a load of poop! It was the most stressed we had ever been! IVF really messed with our mental health!

Cityzen74 · 03/07/2021 22:46

We tried for 3 years. What I think worked for us was the Sperm meets egg plan. We did that and I got pregnant 4 times in 10 months (and I was 41-42). Had 3 early miscarriages but the 4th one stuck and we had our lovely DS. We had fertility investigations and were about to start IVF. We were very lucky. I would really recommend SMEP Flowers

sheusesmagazines · 03/07/2021 22:48

Did all the OPKs, apps, temping, Ava bracelet, pineapple eating, special lube, etc.

But it was the first month after completely stopping breastfeeding my toddler that I became pregnant with a sticky baby. It was cycle 5, age 40.

(First pregnancy at age 37 was just dumb luck - got pregnant without really trying, had a chemical, and then actually tried and got pregnant immediately after).

Proudpeacock · 03/07/2021 22:51

We conceived naturally after more than 5 years of trying (not very hard). Did nothing differently that month, only had sex once so I have no idea why that month.
