@crobo87 glad you are home now and can get some well earned rest x
@Gwhiteley I would mention it if you are concerned, at the very least some reassurance will ease your worries.

@Kirky658 I have vests and sleepsuits in every size from my older two children but I would stick to getting a few newborn, first size and 0-3 for now. You can always pick up more quite quickly once baby is here. My dd was in tiny baby clothes which dh had to run to Asda to buy when she was born, whereas my son went straight into 0-3, despite my having growth scans, the size is so often wrong. Happy shopping, I picked up some lovely stuff in the next sale that I didn't need but wantedBlush. Also John Lewis have some lovely ones at reasonable prices, frugi, jojo maman bebe and matalan have a few nice ones too then their are the supermarket ones too and some independent sellers on Instagram that have gorgeous prints.
@CherLW I started washing my first size and newborn yesterday as I put them out to dry my neighbour asked if I was pregnant lol. She works shifts as a midwife so we haven't seen much of each other since I started showing. I used the fairy non bio washing liquid tabs as they are great for sensitive skin, I used it with my other children and liked it. So exciting getting your hospital bag ready. Have you packed your own yet or are you getting the baby's ready first?

Kirky658 · 13/07/2021 09:05

@cherlw I'll be using fairy non bio too. Got a voucher through with £2 off at Tesco so I stocked up on a big tub.

When's everyone washing their baby clothes, blankets etc? I know it won't take long to do, I'm 31 weeks tomorrow, but trying to avoid doing them too early.... Thoughts?

Also the hospital bag....really stressing me out tbh. I don't know where to start!

Sillysocks998 · 13/07/2021 09:20

Morning Ladies. I've done most my washing at 29 weeks because I'm high risk. I need a few tiny baby clothes just in case I go into labour or need a C section earlier. I've got 1 medium suitcase that will be for me and baby and a back pack with husbands clothes (2 changes) and snacks obviously lol. I'm waiting for my new ironing board to come today so I can iron and pack. Then be on standby. Its too stressful for me to not be prepared as Dr can call me any day and say we need to deliver. But I'm trying to get as far along as possible xx

Sillysocks998 · 13/07/2021 09:21

I also washed with fairy powder and fairy conditioner. Mildish fragrance and fine x

Mamabearwhere · 13/07/2021 09:35

I’ve washed all the baby stuff including bedding and blankets. I don’t know why I have this gut feeling I’m going to have him very early (currently 30 weeks) so I wanted to make sure everything is ready to go. I’ve half packed the hospital bag too, just need to pack my things, I’ve packed a fraction of the amount I packed the first two times so I hope I don’t regret it or missed anything. I’m ordering the Doona car seat stroller today and then I’m done.

CherLW · 13/07/2021 09:37

Thanks for the washing powder tips ladies! So many little things to think about!!

@Sceptre86 aww bless her, it’s funny isn’t it when people don’t see you for so long!
I am going to do babies first so I know it’s done and then I’ll do my gradually as will need to buy bits and pieces for that one.

@Kirky658 I’m 32+4 today, I’ve decided I want babies done by the end of the month and then I’ll finish my early august.
I’m taking a carry on size suitcase for my things and probably a pack of nappies and then I’m using the babies changing bag (which is a back pack) for his baby things.
I’ve also been told as I have GD to take GD friendly snacks and food as the hospital aren’t always prepped for it too much!… well nice things anyway! So probably a little cool bag for those bits.

GWhiteley · 13/07/2021 10:09

@CherLW @AdventuresAwait midwife from triage happy pain has stopped, no bleeding & baby moving ok so thinks it's ligature/muscle pain as baby gets bigger & says to expect it to possibly happen again as time goes on & I get bigger. Feel better for talking it through with them

CherLW · 13/07/2021 10:20

@GWhiteley glad they reassured you and said it’s a normal feeling. So many of these little things do look forward to!

CherLW · 13/07/2021 10:23

I’m a FTM so not really any idea! In regards to nappy changes… do we need a barrier cream from day one? Is sudacrem preventative or used if nappy rash appears?
I had a baby workshop which said you shouldn’t need anything apart from water.

Do people use a nappy cream? Vaseline?

Any help will be ideal! X

Sillysocks998 · 13/07/2021 10:27

@Mamabearwhere I too have a gut feeling. It's quite strong. So I'm listening to that even though I'm a ftm. I've got my GD on Friday and haven't even thought about GD friendly snacks. I will get some. Thank you @CherLW
Is anyone taking a mini fan? Has everyone got a Spotify play list?

GWhiteley · 13/07/2021 10:28

@CherLW in the baby workshop I did the midwife said for at least the first 4 weeks you shouldn't use any cream on baby & after that only if nappy rash appears. I'm also a ftm so glad I did the workshop as these sorts of things I wouldn't have known.

CherLW · 13/07/2021 10:31

@GWhiteley perfect thanks 😊 I will hold off from getting anything.

Sillysocks998 · 13/07/2021 10:33

@CherLW I'll be using vaseline as its pure. But also have sudoceem nappy rash cream for my nappy caddy. And cotton wool and water initially. Wipes when I'm out and about.

Sillysocks998 · 13/07/2021 10:35

But good to check if nappy rash occurs in the first place too 👍. Try keep everything pure and simple to start with.

GWhiteley · 13/07/2021 10:35

@CherLW we already have a tub of sudocream as I've got an 8yr old step daughter, you could still get it if it helps you feel more prepared, just not necessarily use it straight away. I want to get one of the little tubs they do that can fit easily in a nappy bag

CherLW · 13/07/2021 10:46

@GWhiteley @Sillysocks998 I have a small sudocream but can easily pop to the shops if need be if needed. I like the idea of Vaseline as like you say it’s pure.

I’ve got lots of cotton wool so I’ll be using that as much as I can and I’ve got water wipes for my changing bag.

Just bought loads of bits online, getting bits ready for hospital bag etc!

Kirky658 · 13/07/2021 10:51

@cherlw we have some sudocrem to be prepared but were told at the classes this weekend to not use it unless a rash appears and just use water and dry then thoroughly. Try and give some nappy free time.

@gwhiteley glad all is well. I've had a really achy bump for the last few days and it's driving me mad, I feel like I'm carrying a bowling ball.

I've got my 31 weeks appt today! I do feel like I'm starting to panic about things like packing my hospital bag, the extra clothes I should get, when I need to call my DH home from work to take me to hospital etc... Think it's fear of not knowing when she will arrive!

SillyBry · 13/07/2021 11:00

Be warned not to buy too much Sudocrem... a little goes an awfully long way. I think we're only half way through the big tub I bought before my 4 year old was born!!
Personally, I put vaseline on in the early days as it makes the meconium poo much easier to scrub off! But I only used cream if the bum looked sore really - no need to plaster them with cream if it's not needed :-)
Aveeno do a really nice preventative/barrier cream, which always worked really well. And then if they get properly sore, Metanium is the best stuff... it's vile and stains everything yellow, but nothing beats it. Again, I think I never finished the first tube, so don't buy lots in!

I'm probably a bit casual on the washing and things... we use Method washing liquid, which is really kind to skin. Hubby has sensitive skin and it works for him. So quite likely, I'll buy one bottle of non bio for the first few weeks and then move back to Method unless baby has a reaction. I'm very much a "chuck everything in one wash" type of person!!!

Hubby is unexpectedly isolating this week, so I plan for him to go in the attic and get things down, so I can start building stuff. But the hospital bag probably won't get packed until I'm 35/36 weeks. (I feel a bit too relaxed about it all this time - knowing me, I'll be packing it in labour! ;-) )

CherLW · 13/07/2021 11:09

Thanks for the tips @SillyBry I will pack a small Vaseline in my hospital bag too for that sticky poo!

I love aveeno so will definitely look into that too 😊

bewitchingnight · 13/07/2021 11:12

I did most of my washing at the weekend because I wanted to start packing the hospital bags! I've done the baby's but mine is less fun so haven't done that yet. 32 weeks tomorrow!

Kirky658 · 13/07/2021 12:02

I think I might wash some of the stuff soon then, ideally wanted to wait till beginning of Aug to pack but I'll be 34 weeks coming up to then. I'm also thinking on the clothes front how I would be able to return them if I'd washed them and they were the wrong sizes 😅

AdventuresAwait · 13/07/2021 12:51

That's great @GWhiteley xx

I've washed everything (with Ecover non-bio) including blankets. I've kept one out as I'm having a c-section and read some advice to have one that smells of me that baby can be wrapped in if she can't be with me or my husband straight away. Other than that, the bags are packed. Only need to add my clothes for leaving hospital.

7 weeks to go and I think it will go quickly!

Sillysocks998 · 13/07/2021 13:08

@AdventuresAwait that's a good idea, to keep one blanket out. I haven't washed one of them. How will you make it smell like you? I am likely to have a C sec too. Loving the tips today ladies 😊

AdventuresAwait · 13/07/2021 13:18

@Sillysocks998, I read that you can have it in bed with you as you sleep for a few days before baby is due...

SP2Bx · 13/07/2021 13:22

Great tips ladies, my hospital bag check lists are growing by the day! 😅 30 weeks tomorrow, plan on starting the washing/at the start of August. Baby shower is planned for the 7th, so will sort through everything after that 🙊
