We’re coming to the end of our last thread so here is, hopefully, the final instalment of our journeys. I’m going to compile a list of due dates and births from the last thread and I’ll post them below.

Hopefully we’ll have lots more baby announcements on the way! How is everyone doing?

AlRRRR · 24/06/2021 07:21

@serenfach1 So! We were talking about the whole other child/ waking in the night etc, well baby did cry in the night a bit cause i was shattered and didn’t get the boob in there quick enough, 4 yr old came in around 3 am and wasn’t that disturbed but we did wake up at 5am and she usually would wake around 6/7 haha! Crazy tired but it comes part and parcel! how r u doing?

MimiDaisy11 · 24/06/2021 23:52

@Sweetmad
Sorry to hear that. Best wishes with everything. Hopefully you get promising news.

Fishingforhappiness · 25/06/2021 03:12

@Nesski @MimiDaisy11@SantoPalo seems like these is quite a club of us who had emergency CS for various reasons. Had mine on 30th May. First week was very hard recovery wise, but got better quite quickly. Hold In there, don't push yourselves too hard and I hope you have the speediest recovery. Flowers it certainly isn't easy.

@Sweetmad I hope it all goes as well as possible. Flowers

@Whywontitname last night had a dream. 3 hourly feeds, settled as soon as she was put down
From 2pm-3am today she has cried is miserable and constantly fed and won't be put down without screaming. She needs to be starved 6.45 til our hospital appt today at 8.45., to cut her tongue tie. Alarms set for 6.15 dreading the screaming drive in!

AlRRRR · 25/06/2021 07:21

@Fishingforhappiness Hey! How bad is LO’s tongue tie? Mine has one, MW saw it on day 1 visit yday and said her tongue goes into a snake shape. We are feeding with a little pain on one side and horrendous on other! She said our trust isn’t doing them just yet!

Normando91 · 25/06/2021 09:05

@AlRRRR Congratulations on the birth of your baby!

My little one is now 8 days old and things couldn’t be going better. He’s such a dream of a kid. We’ve got into such a great routine. Check if he’s pooped, wet nappy, needs a feed, just wants a hug and then he’s out for another 3 hours 😂 There have been some right twisty moments but I think that’s the heat and perhaps being a little over stimulated through the day with meeting all his family and going on little adventures (to the shops to spoil him some more) Hope everyone else is getting on great ☺️💛

AlRRRR · 25/06/2021 09:09

@Normando91 That sounds amazing! Hahaha He is breastfeeding?

Mine’s still in the 2 day old feeding madness of constant till milk comes in! 🤣🤣🤣

Normando91 · 25/06/2021 09:13

@AlRRRR We are combining breast feeding and pumping like a crazed person. He’s had some difficulty latching and winds himself up a lot when he can’t get the knack of it, bless him. But he only lost 25 grams at his 5 day check up so I’m absolutely buzzing to know he is getting plenty ☺️

TerryRose · 25/06/2021 12:37

Hi all just checking in , our little lady is 6 days old now, I am breastfeeding and it goes well during the day and she sleeps but from 1am onwards til about 5:30am she is constantly looking for the breast and not settling , she ended up in the bed as she would not settle in the crib even though she sleeps in the crib no problem during the day so not sure what we are doing wrong , I don't feel comfortable with her in the bed and would prefer she slept in her crib at night but because I'm literally feeding non stop at night it was the only solution . Anyone experiencing similar ?!

AlRRRR · 25/06/2021 13:12

@TerryRose oh yes!!! I have a never been successful with cribs! I have baby wrapped in a swaddle at the side of me in the bed, my cover is light and wrapper around me! x

AlRRRR · 25/06/2021 13:13

@Normando91 ah ok!!!! I didn’t know we could express so early!! Glad it’s going well for you xx

PinkPlantCase · 25/06/2021 13:16

Hi @TerryRose my DS is 9 days old now tends to feed almost constantly from about 8/9pm until midnight or 1 then we get a good 4 hour stretch in his Moses basket, after another feed we maybe get 2 hours. Then for the last wake up I feed him lying on my side in our bed and we get a few more hours.

In the earlier days we brought him into our bed a bit more often during the night when he was fussier. I figure that it is much much safer to be lay on my side feeding him with the bed set up for co-sleeping and accept that I might fall asleep than be sat up be really struggling to keep my eyes open and risk falling asleep like that.

So not really any advice just that we’ve been doing similar.

TerryRose · 25/06/2021 13:38

@PinkPlantCase super thanks for that, sounds like it's the same scenario just at a different time of night so that's really reassuring ! Yes completely get you , I've been doing the lying down side feeding as well , my midwife told me not to worry so just have to trust myself . Really appreciate your reply makes me feel like it's a normal thing ❤️

Sitchervice · 25/06/2021 15:02

@PinkPlantCase we do the same. We have a next to me cot and I find he goes down much easier when I side feed him. It's also safer as if I do end up falling asleep a little I'm less likely to drop him of fall on him. And with his cot being a next to me he's less likely to fall off the bed too.

Whywontitname · 25/06/2021 16:08

@PinkPlantCase is side feeding just literally laying down next to them and feeding? I’m struggling getting him in his next to me he’s hit and miss to if he goes in and won’t sleep for long in it.

@Sitchervice do you side feee and then put baby down?

Just come back from the midwife and he’s put on 1lbs 12 ounces in 2 weeks so at least I know the feeding is working 😂

Sitchervice · 25/06/2021 16:26

@Whywontitname i side feed wait for a bit as he uses my boob as a pillow, then I pop him down after a minuet or two.

We also keep lights dim and the area quiet to de-stimulate him. If it dosnt work the first time it usually works the second or third. Unless he decideds to cluster feed 🙄

Lovethatjourneyforme · 25/06/2021 17:08

We've also taken to co-sleeping a little in the morning, as that's when she's the least settled. Side feeding doesn't really work for me though because I have to burp her and hold her upright for 10-15 mins after every feed, or she'll just throw it all up. So I can't really doze off anyway. My HV said this is normal, which I know it can be, but I'm assuming from what everyone else is saying that no-one else has to do that?
It's incredibly frustrating, lengthens night feeds by a lot especially if she's very stop-start and undecided when she's done.

Sitchervice · 25/06/2021 17:21

@Lovethatjourneyforme winding no, but Eland is a re-latcher. He let's go or slides back onto the nipple so I have to re latch alot! That can extend feeds.

PinkPlantCase · 25/06/2021 17:57

@Whywontitname yeah i lye on my side and he lyes next to me and feeds.

@Lovethatjourneyforme we try and hold him upright for a bit in the day as he does bring milk up sometimes. The midwife just described it though as him having taken a bit too much and said that although it looks like a lot it is actually a really small amount of milk compared to what he takes for the full feed (he did it when she was here).

He (touch wood) seems to be less sicky at night though.

It’s comforting to hear that so many other people co-sleep to an extent, everyone I know irl is dead against it. Apart from the midwives who recommended it as a way of keeping baby safe during lots of night feeds!

Sitchervice · 25/06/2021 22:06

@Sweetmad How's Ted? Any updates?

Lovethatjourneyforme · 26/06/2021 01:59

Very much hoping she grows out of it fairly quickly as it is a bit if nightmare, and I would like to feed her lying down.

@PinkPlantCase I suspect more people do or have done it than admit it, I think it's weirdly a bit taboo despite being very common practice in other cultures. And far more responsible than falling asleep whilst holding them.

serenfach1 · 26/06/2021 05:42

@sweetmad how are you all doing? GOSH is such a brilliant place, I hope you were treated well.

serenfach1 · 26/06/2021 05:48

@AlRRRR has your eldest still been waking early?

We had our boy in the wee small hours yesterday morning. Avoided the induction that was booked for today, thankfully. Not so fortunately I had an episiotomy and forcep delivery but he's here safe and well and that's all that matters.

Anyone have any tips for post episiotomy comfort and healing?!

AlRRRR · 26/06/2021 06:08

@serenfach1 Congrats!!! Hope you’re okay about the birth and stuff!

Warm lavender baths helped me with first when i needed stitches , not sure i know of anything else☹️

Last night (day 3) has been the worst … fed hourly / 1.5 hourly, sore to feed and she had tummy ache and pooed twice! 4 yr old who came into bed my bed around mighnight was up 12-2 am chatting to me, poor love. I ended up sat crying with it all. Said today is bottles and formula day , can’t take another night for me , her and baby who just fussed allnight. Only sanity was the dummy for 1/2 hour to just get some sleep 😩😩😩😩😩

123feraverto · 26/06/2021 06:50

Seems I forgot to update here 🤨 or at least I couldn't see where I posted?

Baby girl born 13th June 02:26

Was all very fast,

started feeling contractions around 11pm on the Saturday night as I was going to bed, thinking it would be a while yet I tried to get a bit of sleep but then I needed the toilet very frequently!

Contractions came strong and fast and were averaging 3 minutes apart by midnight the contractions app I was using kept suggesting I contact the hospital as it was time!

Arrived in the midwife lead ward just after 1am, thought I needed a wee got into the bathroom and my waters went

Unfortunately baby had pooped inside and there was too much meconium to stay on the midwife lead side so we were wheeled over to labour ward with a nice bottle of gas and air!

The rest is kind of a blur - wonders of gas and air!
Ended up needing an episiotomy and suction cup as she was back to back and becoming distressed.

Finally born 02:26
8lb11

And now she's 2 weeks old 🥰
But unfortunately still without a name 🤦🏼‍♀️
