@Catconfusion awww thanks and yes you’re right. Just take each day as it comes. Had the worst headache today but think it’s caffeine withdrawal as didn’t have my usual strong coffee this morning. How far along are you? I loved these threads when pregnant with my little girl, think it’s hard especially early pregnancy if you haven’t told many people. I think il tell my mam tomorrow as good forbid anything happens she’s one of my main supports. Hope everyone’s ok xx

Catconfusion · 05/08/2021 17:24

@Rachy11 I hope the headaches die down. I’d given up caffeine luckily this cycle so went through withdrawal much earlier.

I’m 5 plus 4 today and our first scan is on Tuesday. I’m really nervous but hopeful all is ok. I’ve lost three pregnancies this year. Thankfully all at the 4 week mark but I did have a 10 week loss before my ds was born. I’m feeling really sick today so I’m hoping that’s a good sign.

I bet your mum will be over the moon. It’s always good to tell someone. I told a close friend just in case and my parents. Let’s hope this is it for us. Xx

Rachy11 · 05/08/2021 17:36

@Catconfusion aw so sorry to hear about your losses, that must be so hard to go through. Def sounds a positive sign though you feeling sick. Good luck for your scan is that a private one? Xx

Catconfusion · 05/08/2021 17:56

@Rachy11 thank you. The 10 week one was after I got pregnant accidentally on my honeymoon. It was such a shock and a rollercoaster and then to find out it wasn’t progressing. I do think that one was just really bad luck. It’s difficult because I was very sick in that pregnancy. I think overall it’s a good sign but I am very sensitive to the hormones so it’s difficult to say. The other losses have been really early and I think that’s quite common. Still not very nice though.

We have an nhs referral for monitoring due to our history. We get a scan every two weeks so it will definitely help with the anxiety. Xx

MissL85 · 06/08/2021 17:33

Anyone been told their pregnancy is high risk because they're over 35? Spoke to a midwife this morning as I received a strange letter about a telephone appointment on the day before my next midwife at 16 weeks. I asked about it and they said it's with the hospital because it is a high risk pregnancy. It was then that she asked if I was over 35. I said yes. She responded saying it was probably to do with that.

Catconfusion · 07/08/2021 08:55

@MissL85 seems odd, I’m over 40 and had extra monitoring. I was told they use the term high risk but not to worry, still likely to progress normally and it did. Are you over 40? If you’re 35-40 I don’t think you would normally get the extra monitoring. I would definitely query why. Honestly though if you’re offered extra monitoring I’d take it. It’s nice to get the reassurance from the extra checks. Xx

@Catconfusion I'm 36. It was the normal midwife that was surmising what the hospital midwife was doing. I don't have my telephone appointment until 13th September. I did wonder whether it was because my mum has type 1 diabetes and that means I'm high risk for gestational diabetes. But in truth, that's just a guess as well.

On a separate note, I have been having flaxseed on my cereal occasionally and I seem to be seeing conflicting information whether it is safe or not. Anyone been in contact with a doctor with it? Or had it during previous pregnancies?

Catconfusion · 07/08/2021 11:20

@MissL85 sounds like it could be the diabetes.

I’ve not heard that about flaxseed. It’s such a good source of omega 3 I’d be surprised if it was bad. I guess anything in moderation is fine. We have it in our homemade bread. Xx

Thanks.

Yes, I heard that flaxseed is an amazing thing to eat, which is why these conflicting opinions are confusing. It doesn't say anything on the NHS website about it, which I thought it might do.

Catconfusion · 07/08/2021 12:29

@MissL85 I’m taking a good quality omega 3 supplement at the moment as I’m feeling really sick and not able to stomach a lot of foods. You could always supplement and avoid if you’re worried. Either that or source an alternative. Chia seeds are quite good. Xx

Catconfusion · 10/08/2021 14:26

I’m 6 plus 2 today and I had my first scan. We saw a healthy looking bean with a heartbeat.❤️❤️❤️

MrsArrison · 10/08/2021 15:04

Ah, that's so lovely @Catconfusion! Gives me a little hope I might see something at my scan on Sunday 🤞🏻

Catconfusion · 10/08/2021 15:14

@MrsArrison how many weeks will you be? Good luck for Sunday. It’s so nerve wracking. I’m so relieved but I know the anxiety will creep in before our next scan in two weeks. X

MrsArrison · 10/08/2021 15:34

@Catconfusion I'll be 6+6 and I've been really worrying that it's too soon to pick up a heartbeat, so it was lovely to see your post earlier on two counts - overjoyed for you, and a bit of reassurance for me!

Catconfusion · 10/08/2021 15:39

@MrsArrison Glad my post helped. You should see a heartbeat by then. The picture might not be great. Ours just looks like a tiny blob. Is it an NHS scan or private? If it helps we saw a heartbeat with our ds at 6 plus 3 too. Xx

MrsArrison · 10/08/2021 15:44

It's private with Ultrasound Direct, @Catconfusion - I just knew my anxiety would make me ill waiting until 12 weeks. If there's something wrong, I'd rather know sooner. I know that anything can happen between that and the next scan, but I've read that hearing a heartbeat at 6/7 weeks reduces the miscarriage odds a fair bit.

Catconfusion · 10/08/2021 15:48

@MrsArrison if it’s private you might get a better picture. Ours was nhs as I’ve had three early losses this year. All were before 5 weeks so we’ve got a bit further this time. I think most miscarriages happen before the 6 week mark so if you’ve not had spotting or cramping you should be fine. Once the heart beat is seen I was told it’s an 80% chance of continuing but then I’m 42 so I’m not sure if those odds are better for someone younger. We were told it was a 40/50 mc rate at our age in the beginning so we’re feeling a lot more confident now the odds have decreased. Xx

MrsArrison · 10/08/2021 15:53

@Catconfusion I turn 40 on 3rd September so I think the odds are pretty similar for ages, from what I've read. At the same time, I'm trying not to read too much as I'm just driving myself mad with things that can go wrong!

Catconfusion · 10/08/2021 16:03

@MrsArrison I was 40 when I had my ds and I think the mc rates were slightly lower. Try not to worry (says she who’s spent three weeks worrying). Your odds are really good. Is it your first baby? Xx

MissL85 · 10/08/2021 16:08

Brilliant news. Are they seeing you again before your dating scan? I went at 6 weeks and then at 8 weeks and 6 days after having two miscarriages in the past.
MrsArrison · 10/08/2021 16:29

I know, easier said than done eh, @Catconfusion? 😂 And yep, it's my very first pregnancy, ever.

Catconfusion · 10/08/2021 17:16

@MissL85 yes I’m having fortnightly monitoring until 16 weeks. I had the same with my ds. Our EPAU is very good. Xx

@MrsArrison aww exactly. It’s a difficult time no matter what. I thought I’d be better since we’ve done it before. I think I’m more anxious this time due to our age. Just keep busy and try not to google too much. Before you know it your little one will be here and then your life will be changed forever. Xx

Catconfusion · 10/08/2021 17:50

This study shows a very low risk after the first appointment if there’s a heartbeat.

Hello! New here Smile Got my BFP yesterday after a good 12+ months of actively trying. My DS1 is almost 3 years old and I'll be 40 in Nov.

Estimate I'm just over 5 weeks.

Ironically I had my first blood test for investigations into why I wasn't getting pregnant again just last Friday when it was supposed to be my first day of period - it hadn't arrived but the appt was booked so I went along and just presumed I'd come in later in the day.

Yesterday did my first test and big blue line haha!

GP has asked to discuss blood test results with me (they're going to be like, you aren't ovulating because you are pregnant!) but appt not until next Tuesday. Grrr.

Hope everyone is doing well. I loved my first pregnancy - hoping I will this time too! Grin
