Do you drink when pregnant?

So personally I don’t. But I know quite a lot of people who have a glass of wine a week.

Basically I’m just interested? Who drinks?

I’m pregnant and put wine in cooking still as the alcohol boils off before you eat it. As long as you don’t stand there with your nose over the pan it’s fine Grin

As for actually drinking, no not really the no-alcohol stuff you can get tastes really nice anyway. Why risk it.

If you don’t drink when pregnant then great- up to you. Slating other women for having a glass and here and there not adopting your exact approach to pregnancy and saying they’re selfish and only out to harm their unborn baby is rude, unnecessary and totally unfounded. You know we have a thing called a liver right? It’s totally capable of processing a unit or two of alcohol before it gets anywhere near the placenta and baby.

There’s a great section on this in the book by Emily Oster called Expecting Better that explains it logically and scientifically.

Thankfully when I became pregnant I still retained my ability for critical thinking, to process research and stats and to apply those to my situation if I wished. I wish to still enjoy the odd glass of wine, slowly and with a meal, and there is no evidence that doing so is harmful in ANY way to my baby. I have also cut my caffeine consumption down drastically but I will not forgoe my morning coffee.

Thankfully while retaining the above ability I did not develop a new ability in being spiteful, rude and judgmental towards other pregnant women who choose to cut out alcohol and caffeine completely.

One sip of champagne at 32 weeks to toast DHs big birthday.

I don't miss booze but a nice refreshing fruity cider or cocktail are a nice treat but it just wasn't worth the risk for me. However small the risk, I couldn't live with myself

No I never have done, I don't see the point. Wouldn't know how much we're allowed. When I drink I like to be able to freely enjoy it and I just wouldn't want any of it going to the baby. With pregnancies and breastfeeding I haven't drank in years, didn't cross my mind from when I fell pregnant the first time.

I did, very heavy drinking for the first month (lots of parties/celebrations and a holiday) as had no idea I was pregnant. None after I found out.

I probably would’ve had the odd small glass of wine over Christmas /my birthday or a shandy otherwise. I just drank water, had the best skin ever!
