Do you drink when pregnant?

So personally I don’t. But I know quite a lot of people who have a glass of wine a week.

Basically I’m just interested? Who drinks?

I stopped totally both times. Gave up caffeine as well. Drank peppermint and redbush teas, and PLJ. Orange juice and tonic when in a pub (J2Os didn't really exist at the time).

😂😂

*sorry that was in response to a pp comment that got cut off! NM!

OhRene · 05/06/2021 18:40

Nope. I had a swig of my husband's beer once as I wanted to know what that brand tasted of. That's it. And I ticked another lager off my list.

I attended a funeral, hen party and wedding before I found out I was pregnant at 4/5 weeks and drank at all of them. Nothing since though and I’m now 38 weeks.

There were 3 other pregnant people at the hen party. 1 drank, 1 didn’t drink but smoked like a train, and the third didn’t smoke or drink. Unfortunately, the one who didn’t smoke or drink lost her baby at around 7 months pregnant.

Half a glass of champagne at a wedding during each pregnancy and another half a glass of red on Xmas Day with one of them.

Oh no how awful. What happened 😢😢

I have a bottle of 1% cidre now and again if everyone’s drinking at a gathering, sainsburys one, tastes just like real full strength alcohol cidre (almost).

Interestingly it’s one of the first signs I’m pregnant, going off alcohol, usually I’m a sucker for a lovely Malbec but nope can’t touch the stuff when pregnant it’s odd. My DP has noticed both times I’ve been pregnant in the TWW so technically he knew before I did 😂.

I had a small glass of red wine a week; even my GP said this was totally fine! Very unlikely to be harmful at that level. I did find that I didn’t enjoy it as much as I expected though. There’s something about not being able to have a second glass that makes it a little bit anticlimactic!

Tangled123 · 05/06/2021 20:28

@Bizawit

They didn’t know at the time of the hen party, but baby was very sick and didn’t develop properly. I’m not too familiar with the details but I think one of the issues was fluid getting in her brain. She died in the womb, so mum had to be induced and gave birth a few days later.

Normando91 · 05/06/2021 20:32

Since I found out I was pregnant in October I have had a sip of white wine that made me nauseous.

Then last weekend at 37 weeks I had two sips of my partners espresso martini and my god I cannot wait to be able to have a whole tray full in the not too distant future!!

Tilly18101 · 05/06/2021 20:58

Yep, 18 weeks and I’ll have the odd small glass of wine with dinner on a Saturday night but I don’t have the desire to drink anymore then that - it’s just nice to join Hubby with a nice tea once a week! Tonight we each had a bottle of beer instead as it’s so warm.

The odd one for me with food is within my levels of comfort, I would have anymore or spirits.

fibeee · 05/06/2021 21:12

I didn’t after my BFP. I thought I would miss it but didn’t. However trying to reduce my caffeine consumption was hell.

Ohh gosh so so sad, I can’t even imagine 😥

No

Alfxn · 05/06/2021 22:02

Would be fairly into wine as a hobby/ interest in general - wine tours, books etc. Since becoming pregnant I have had the occasional half glass of wine, I don't find it tastes the same at the moment however!

TTCAbroad · 05/06/2021 22:56

I’ve had a few sips of my husbands wine but it tastes like vinegar!

That being said - I had 50ml of champagne to celebrate a special occasion a few days ago and plan on having about that amount with dinner at my sisters wedding (25 weeks).

ShinyGreenElephant · 05/06/2021 23:00

Yeah with DD3 I had a baileys on Christmas eve and two glasses of champagne and oj on Christmas day but the second one gave me terrible heartburn so that was the end of that. Then I had a large glass of red wine at 40 weeks thinking it might relax me to bring on labour which it did not but it was very enjoyable nonetheless. Didnt have any my first pregnancy and think with DD2 I had a small glass of prosecco on my birthday and that was it. They're all fine.

Littlepaws18 · 05/06/2021 23:04

No not a drop. And my craving is beer.... non pregnant I don't even like beer!

Luckily my other craving is raspberry ripple ice cream which I would indulge in but I have gestational diabetes arggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

ArchbishopOfBanterbury · 05/06/2021 23:35

Occasionally, once or twice in both pregnancies. A few wedding toasts, a christmas Bailies.

JewelGarden · 06/06/2021 00:44

I had the odd one drink once every week or fortnight for a while but lost interest after a few months and haven't bothered in weeks now.

ThrobbingToothacheOfTheMind · 06/06/2021 01:01

Who drink?

Selfish types that only care about themselves

Help23 · 06/06/2021 01:10

I have 1-2 small (125ml) glasses of champagne or wine 1-3 times a week (very slowly) with a meal. I avoided alcohol up to week 14 and will again from 34-37 weeks due to findings from some research I did before deciding I felt comfortable drinking the amount stated here. I track every drink in a mobile phone app so I can make sure I am not under estimating what I consume. I looked into this at great length before making a decision but how the body processes alcohol varies greatly from person to person - so this could be far too much for some people.

Help23 · 06/06/2021 01:16

@Gottagobuffalo

Nope. If you can't go 38 weeks without alcohol, for your own child's health, then you've got a problem.
Yes I have to agree with @SmidgenofaPigeon here - I'm sure most people feel uncomfortable stating what they do and don't do because of the type of judgement coming from other women... HmmThere is no evidence that having a small glass of wine or two, slowly with a meal has any negative impacts on a child's health or development. So having a small drink doesn't mean I have a drinking problem - it means I know how to interpret research papers and make an adult decision on what is the best approach for me and my baby.
