Do you drink when pregnant?

So personally I don’t. But I know quite a lot of people who have a glass of wine a week.

Basically I’m just interested? Who drinks?

I loved a drink so much before I was pregnant but I'm 14 weeks now and know I won't touch a drop. It's not worth it

unicornpower · 05/06/2021 12:21

Nope! I might have a small glass of prosecco at my friends Hen but I'll be in the third trimester and it will be like half a glass if that. I don't miss it too much to be honest! It's just in the sun I would love some fizz or a cold glass of wine but I can wait Wink

Houseofvelour · 05/06/2021 12:25

Not at all.
During my first pregnancy was my hen do, wedding, my birthday, my sister's wedding, Christmas and new year. The closest I came to alcohol was smelling my sister's glass of champagne at Christmas 😂

Not a single drop with either though.

Hdujsjdjdbru · 05/06/2021 12:26

Nope not a drop. It's a poison to unborn baby Also, I didn't see the point - one small glass of wine/prosecco wouldn't make my day any better Grin.

Mumoblue · 05/06/2021 12:27

No. I didn’t even drink Coke the entire time I was pregnant because I was worried about caffeine.
But I had 2 early losses and was considered a high risk pregnancy so it made me a bit paranoid!
I don’t drink much anyway, and it used to be because my tolerance was super high and I’d have to practically drink a bathtub’s worth to feel anything- though last week I had two glasses of apple sours and lemonade and I felt tipsy!
Probably because I hadn’t touched it in over 2 years but my tolerance has definitely changed.

OverByYer · 05/06/2021 12:29

I was pregnant in millennium eve so had a glass of champagne. I like a drink but didn’t do so when pregnant apart from that

MissingTheMoonlight · 05/06/2021 12:33

No because the brief benefit wouldn't outweigh the worry it would cause me

Wiltshire90 · 05/06/2021 12:33

Yes I do - a few sips of partner's wine or beer a week and occasionally a small (60-70ml) glass of wine (I've had about three so far this pregnancy). I would happily drink a larger glass of wine but the social pressure and guilt would put me off! I think you'll find most who do won't admit it on here.

Ritamarie85 · 05/06/2021 13:32

Wow so many responses! I’m with most in that I don’t miss it so just give it up.

Was just interested too see. Thanks for your replies Star

Nope absolutely not. When I was pregnant with my first, several people told me it was safe to have a glass now and again but I just didn't want to. Wasn't worth the risk to me and frankly I can live without it

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 05/06/2021 13:39

Sometimes if I’m having a pizza or a curry I’ll really fancy a shandy so I’ll have one

notacooldad · 05/06/2021 13:42

I didn't.
For most of the pregnancy I only drank water.
Not being virtuous or anything but a lot of smells made me feel sick and when I stopped feeling sick the memory of feeling sick made me feel sick again. I even had to give up Hot Chocolate 😭

glasshalfsomething · 05/06/2021 13:44

I did with both pregnancies. Only after 20 weeks and less than once a month. A glass of red, or a champagne when I was in the mood for it.

I also had a glass the night before of my c-section; toasting out final night without the new baby.

SemiFeralDalek · 05/06/2021 13:45

Not a drop and wouldn't.

BingBongToTheMoon · 05/06/2021 13:50

No way.

LaTomatina · 05/06/2021 13:58

Nope. Never fancied it. Would probably have allowed myself the occasional one if I had missed it, but really didn't want it.

bjjgirl · 05/06/2021 14:05

Dd1 I drank weekly, binged drank a bottle
Or 2, smoked and did A tactical firearms course until I found out I was pregnant at 10 weeks, I was on the pill and previously told I would struggle to conceive. I had a glass of wine, took the test (in complete disbelief I was pregnant but my mate was nagging me to do one as I kept fainting) then my word changed. I never smoked again

She is now 11 and is amazing

Dd2 we conceived at the first try and I do not drink or smoke

Toastedsesame · 05/06/2021 14:15

Nope didn't touch a drop til I was 41+5 and then I had a small can of beer because at that point I was willing to try anything to get things going.

TTCat39 · 05/06/2021 14:15

We were TTC for 6/7 months and during that time I had one drink each month when AF arrived. Now I'm pregnant I honestly can't think of anything worse than feeling more dizzy than I already do, so I've no interest in alcohol whatsoever.

Gottagobuffalo · 05/06/2021 14:15

Nope. If you can't go 38 weeks without alcohol, for your own child's health, then you've got a problem.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 05/06/2021 14:50

I can definitely see why women who do have the odd occasional small drink in pregnancy (which I personally believe is completely harmless) would probably not say, because this inevitably brings out some pretty strong, often judgemental, and usually totally unfounded opinions on the safety of doing so.

Each to their own, of course lots of women don’t want to/don’t fancy it/would rather not. But it is certainly not the case that a woman has a problem or wishes to cause harm to her baby by having the off unit here and there.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 05/06/2021 14:50

*odd

Bizawit · 05/06/2021 15:05

I have the occasional glass of wine, or half pint if I fancy it.

Hahaha I love that you made this comment right after “if you can’t manage without for the health of your baby, you have a problem” It’s so well placed
gevey · 05/06/2021 15:55

I went away for the week and the only thing I had was a very weak shandy -
It made me feel a little light headed and actually felt tipsy.
Didn't like the feeling, not worth it and won't drink again.
I'm 17 weeks.
