I know fundal height charts/growth scans aren't known to be very accurate but I was just wondering how right/wrong they were for people.

39+2 and due to be induced next week on my due date (if baby doesn't come before then) Not had any growth scans but baby has had steady growth (was on 50th line but now in-between 50th and 90th) according to fundal height. Chart is predicting he will be around 4kg (8lb 13) but my bump is really small so I am dubious 🤣

Ds1 was scanned 2 days before birth and was estimated to be 2lbs 5oz at 33 weeks, thankfully he was 2lbs 14oz when born 2 days later. So he was extremely tiny for his age.
Ds2 was estimated to be 6lbs+ at 36 weeks but was 5lbs 3oz when he was born at 36 weeks so quite a bit smaller.
Both boys are quite stocky so fitted in much smaller clothes for their weight

Csx99 · 03/06/2021 19:25

Was estimating 9.5lbs at 40 weeks. He was 8lb11oz at 39+5

frenchtoast88 · 03/06/2021 19:27

Growth scan at 33 weeks estimated 5lb8oz which if the baby grows 1/2 lb a week for the last trimester that would make a 9lb baby at full term. He came at 40+5 and was 9lb1oz, so bang on! I was in disbelief at the growth scan and sure it must be wrong as my daughter had been 7lb and neither DH or I are very big at all so didn't believe I could grow a big baby but guess I can!

CornishGem1975 · 03/06/2021 19:31

Predicted 9lb (growth scans every 2-4 weeks) around 39 weeks, was induced and was 9lb 10.5oz at 39 weeks.

TopTabby · 03/06/2021 19:34

I'm petite & as I was approaching my due date for Dd1 there were extra scans & terrifying conversations about her being "a big baby, 10lb plus but I wasn't to worry because women could do amazing things!"Confused
When I had her she was a few days late & weighed 7lb 15, no complications. Its just so hard to predict, I would rather not have had any predictions!

ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 03/06/2021 19:35

'Huge'

7lb 5oz one week early.

HotPotatoHotPotato21 · 03/06/2021 21:25

I was measuring small so had one growth scan which showed 50th centile, baby was born 4th centile for his gestational age.

Dyra · 03/06/2021 22:41

Pretty spot on. Growth scan at 36 weeks estimated baby to be 6lb 15. One week later baby came out 7lb 5.

Edelweiss2020 · 04/06/2021 06:10

This is so interesting, a big mix of waaay out and pretty close haha. I guess I'll just have to wait and see :P

Predicted 6-7lb
Actual 8lb 14
I had the neatest little bump, she must have been folded up nicely 😂😂

Mummyme87 · 04/06/2021 06:34

DS1 last scan at 36weeks and he was estimated 3.4kg (7lb10) at that stage, based on that he was going to be around 10lb at term.. he was 10lb 5 at 41+4

DS2 he was estimated to be average weight at term based on 36weeks scan, but on a repeat scan at 39weeks looked like he had suddenly got a lot bigger and was 4.5kg (10lb) at 39+6.

LimeAndLemons · 04/06/2021 06:39

Dd estimated at 9lb 8 - actual 10lb 9.
Ds est 11lb - actual 9lb 13.

Big babies run in our family 😂

Snoopy28x · 04/06/2021 07:01

First baby 7lbs 11oz. 2nd baby midwife said that she guesses 8lbs 7oz. I was massive, measuring 2 weeks ahead of where I should be every week. He was 10lb 3oz Confused

This time they are giving me the extra growth scans Grin

FrangipaniBlue · 04/06/2021 07:02

Massive bump told at 36 weeks he was already measuring around 8lb so to expect a 9lb+ possibly towards 10lb baby......

He was 7lb but like a long skinny rake 😂

YourStarlessEyes · 04/06/2021 07:04

Scan at 36 weeks said baby was 6lb 1oz, baby born a week later weighed 6lbs 3oz!

bubblesforlife · 04/06/2021 07:09

Just over 9 pounds. I was induced. She was 8 pounds exactly. So, while she was a big baby, she wasn’t what they predicted.

Tee20x · 04/06/2021 07:11

Predicted 6lb 4 oz, induced at 42+2 at 8lb 3 oz.

Missmonkeypenny · 04/06/2021 09:09

Accurate for me!

DS was predicted at 6lb 13oz at 36 weeks, born at 38 weeks ( induced to polyhydramnious and previous forceps delivery ) at 8lbs

moonlight1705 · 04/06/2021 09:37

I was told DD would be a big baby and probably over 8lb - she was born at 42 weeks at 10lb 8oz after EMCS. So I guess fairly accurate in some ways.

Idroppedthescrewinthetuna · 04/06/2021 13:31

DD3 was expected to be 7.5-8lbs she was 6.13. We had to stay in 24 hours so she could have her blood sugar levels tested every 3 hours as she was 'too small' compared to predicted weight.
No inducement and carried 39+6. My bump was huge.

DD2 was expected to be 9lbs she was 7.13. 2 days late. My bump was the biggest of the 3.

DD1 she was expected to be 8.5 she was 8.3. 9 days late. A nice tidy and comfortable bump.

jollyho · 04/06/2021 13:39

Predicted over 6KG, was half that.

reallyreallyborednow · 04/06/2021 13:44

I don’t recall anyone predicting size or weight. M/w would measure my bump, say all is ok, that was it.

I don’t think these things can be reliably predicted so I don’t see the point in trying. Obviously the use is in picking up wild outliers, so massive or tiny, in case they need additional help.

Same with dating scans, as long as they’re not +/- 2 weeks there’s no point in moving a dd a day or two.

My mother, on the other hand, predicted 2 weeks late and over 9lbs, as “all” the babies in our family were late and big.

2 weeks early, 7lbs.

xprincessxjanetx · 05/06/2021 00:09

DS3 (now 10 months) was predicted to be over 10lbs at 40 weeks. I was terrified as my biggest was only 8lbs 9oz. He was born at 40+2 and only weighed 7lb 13oz

Wacadu · 05/06/2021 00:19

Predicted just over 9lb. Birth weight 10lb 10oz. Just the 1 day late.

sarah13xx · 05/06/2021 06:43

Can’t say because he’s not out yet 😂 but I was slightly panicked when they said my bump was measuring too small, went rushing away in for a scan and it’s saying he’s bang on average. The measurement thing seems to be quite an old fashioned way to do it nowadays. It totally depends on your height, weight etc 🤷🏼‍♀️ Will see if he’s average sized when he arrives!
