I know fundal height charts/growth scans aren't known to be very accurate but I was just wondering how right/wrong they were for people.

39+2 and due to be induced next week on my due date (if baby doesn't come before then) Not had any growth scans but baby has had steady growth (was on 50th line but now in-between 50th and 90th) according to fundal height. Chart is predicting he will be around 4kg (8lb 13) but my bump is really small so I am dubious 🤣

Both babies measured 50th centile all the way through.
Both born at 9th.

Both babies measured 50th centile all the way through.
Both born at 95th.

Ignore my previous message!

Echobelly · 03/06/2021 16:52

I don't recall ever being told predicted size of my two. Or if they did tell me I evidently wasn't that interested! All I knew was that they looked on track to be healthy weight.

krj2688 · 03/06/2021 16:52

I had a scan the day I had dd. She was predicted to be 6lb13oz, she was 6lb exactly. So not too far out

Sugarcube84 · 03/06/2021 16:54

I was on twice weekly growth scans as they were concerned baby was small in the end he was predicted to be just over 7lb.

Midwife at my last appointment (sweep) had a feel and asked if anyone had told me the baby was going to be big, I explained it was the opposite she laughed and said to my partner if my waters break get me to the hospital quick.

In the end I was induced (waters broken) he arrived within 2 hours and was 9lb 5 even the midwives were shocked how big he was, everyone except the midwife who did my last appointment and said he would be big. My first was 7lb 13 so not small either

FTEngineerM · 03/06/2021 16:54

Anywhere between 7.7-9.9lb on fundal height.
Arrived 8 days overdue at 7lb 6oz and 55cm.

Sheldock · 03/06/2021 16:55

DD predicted 5lbs due to fundal height measurements and growth scans- she was 5 days late and 7lbs14oz...so 3lbs out!

DS- predicted 8lbs as similar measurements to DD.10lbs at birth but 9 days over.

I was told 4 kg ish but they based it on his leg measurements. He was actually a very tall, thin baby (undiagnosed ‘invisible’ preclampsia) and came in at 3.1kg but most of that was fluid weight
HippeePrincess · 03/06/2021 17:02

Predicted 8-8.5lb was born over 10lb. Predicted another big baby second time was just under 8lb. Both by scans very close to birth. I wouldn’t pay much attention to the scans to be honest my midwives were more accurate by fundal height and feel than the scans.

Kollywobble · 03/06/2021 17:16

I was told baby was around 4lb 7 at my 32-week scan. Baby was born at 35 weeks weighing 4lb 4 but my placenta had started to fail which may account for the lack of growth in those 3 weeks.

rhowton · 03/06/2021 17:17

Both of mine were predicted 10lbs plus and I had 6lbs12 & 7lbs10

Cattenberg · 03/06/2021 17:17

Predicted weight - 8lb or even 8.5lb.
Actual weight - just over 7lb. She was born nine days early.

ginandgingers92 · 03/06/2021 17:18

Predicted 3lb 4oz at 36 weeks, but she was 4lb 6oz 🎉

bunnytheegghunter · 03/06/2021 17:21

All of mine were out, was told my 9lb 11oz child would be 7lb max! This was 5 days before I was induced. My 8lb 6oz was predicted to be around 6lb my 6lb 9oz baby was predicted to be around 8lb, my 8lb 10oz baby was predicted to be 11lb 🙄 all of these were by chart and growth scans. I really think it's unusual for them to be accurate.

MooseBeTimeForSummer · 03/06/2021 17:23

Predicted 8lb. Actual 10lb 11oz.

Historytoo · 03/06/2021 17:26

Scan at 40 weeks +9 days. Sonographer confidently said "at least 10lbs 4oz". Baby born less than 48 hours later weighing 8lbs 4oz. They got the 4oz part right Confused. Scans are rubbish for predicting weight.

Htp320 · 03/06/2021 17:33

Had a growth scan at 30 weeks as they were concerned the baby was too small - she was born at 40+6 and was a whopper- 9lb 6oz Hmm

LottieDot · 03/06/2021 17:36

At a growth scan he was estimated 6lb, he was born 6 days later at 6lb 4oz so was close!

CoffeeRunner · 03/06/2021 17:38

I was told DS2 was a big baby. He was born at 40+1 & weighed 7lbs 7ozs - bang on average weight Grin.

I don't remember being given an estimated weight with either DS1 or DD.

daisy2609 · 03/06/2021 17:55

Mine were never accurate, dd2 born 2 months early but was 5lb2 so they were worried about next babies, with dd3 and ds2 (babies 3 and 4) they estimated both would be well over 10lb because "scan says so" both came out 8lb2. Dc5 was also said to be around 9.5-10.5lb based on scan, came out 11lb3! So for me they cannot be used reliably at all.

Goodtohear · 03/06/2021 17:56

Dc1 was 9lb4oz predicted to be 8lb.
Dt were predicted a combined weight of 11lb4oz they were12lb12combined the day before delivery.

mathanxiety · 03/06/2021 18:38

Before DS was born they were predicting be could be 'as big as 8 lbs' and I freaked out as DD was just over 7 lbs.

He turned out to be 9lbs 4 ozs. What a long day that turned out to be.

Bigoldmachine · 03/06/2021 18:57

I was never given a predicted weight for either of mine...

DC1 was 7lb 6oz
DC2 was 9lbs 7oz

The midwife who did my second sweep with DC2 felt my bump and her eyes went big “he’s definitely READY”. I got the fear “is he really big?!” To which she replied it’s hard to tell or not especially or something like that. But it turned out he was. BUT BUT BUT he was by FAR and away the easier one to birth. Big baby does not have to equal difficult birth. I would do his birth again tomorrow, it was absolutely fine.

vampirethriller · 03/06/2021 18:59

I was told 5-6lbs, she was born at 42+3 at 8lbs 4.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 03/06/2021 19:00

My predictions (from midwives) were all pretty close. I had small bumps but enormous babies.
