@2020mission I'm surprised they've done it on the phone as you should be having your urine and BP checked really. Downs results sound fine, mine were 1:2500 and I'm 27.😊

2020mission · 14/07/2021 15:56

Thanks @Kirky658 for confirming for me. Yeah it's odd I hope my BP and urine is fine as it won't be checked until the next 22 week appointment 😬

Justanothercyster · 14/07/2021 18:12

@2020mission I never even had a 16 week one so that's good going πŸ˜‚

@2020mission hand held pumps were no good for me unfortunately, they leaked a lot and were hard work on your hand. Definitely couldn't use it while feeding as you needed both hands one to hold it on witj and the other to pump. Had to swap hands regularly too as your hand would hurt.

2020mission · 14/07/2021 19:11

Oh really @Justanothercyster you didn't at all? You did get your results through from the screening in the post though right? It was a long wait for me waiting a month for those πŸ˜… I'm assuming they must think it's fine to skip the BP and urine checks then if they didn't with you and are doing 16 week appointments over the phone in Scotland.

@lucyrp I did think it would be tiring on the hands πŸ€” Will see what the price difference is between manual and electric along with reviews and make a decision come the time!

lucyrp · 14/07/2021 19:12

@2020mission I will be purchasing a bellababy electric one when I finally buy one. Think they're Β£49 and heard good things from friends about them

Haiyaa · 14/07/2021 19:43

@2020mission my midwife said at my booking that 16 week will be over the phone but I can have face to face if I want… I will want πŸ˜‚ at 16 weeks with DD I heard her heartbeat, which helps ride you over to the 20 week scan, so don’t want to miss out on that.

I think if you pump all the time electric is the way to go and I loved my Medela Swing but when I was at a Foo Fighters concert and my boobs were going to explode, the manual Medela was fab! I did cry a bit when I had to pour the fruits of my labour down the sink though πŸ₯› 😭

2020mission · 14/07/2021 19:58

@Haiyaa 🀣 what a picture in the toilets at a foo fighters gig crying while pouring away the liquid gold milk. I shouldn't laugh, I'm sure I'll be doing the same somewhere next year! I'm gutted about not hearing the heartbeat. I still only have a small bump and can't feel kicks so I could do with some reassurance! Long 4 weeks ahead until the next scan...

Noted the Bellababy and Mandela Swing πŸ‘ thanks!

Justanothercyster · 14/07/2021 21:28

@2020mission yeah tbh it might be because I moved areas. So I had my 12 week scan at Bournemouth and then moved, had to convert to Salisbury team at 14 weeks so had booking bloods again, then didn't have anything until 20 week scan. I asked about the 16 week thing and they said not to worry as I'd had my first blood results via post from Bournemouth. Still haven't had my Salisbury results πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ I feel fine so not going to worry haha, got my 24 week apt next week.
I'd ring up and ask if you really want to, they'll probably accommodate if you say you're feeling anxious (even if you're not!)

@Kirky658 was it you saying you have carpel tunnel syndrome now? What does it feel like?
I am in so much pain today with my feet, hands, joints, everything πŸ˜–

OP posts:
Kirky658 · 15/07/2021 06:44

@justanothercyster yep that was me. It varies from tingling and numbness to my hand seizing up. It's so pleasant πŸ™„

Hopeful110 · 16/07/2021 06:55

@Kirky658 @2020mission
Just a quick question re your downs results...mine came back at 1:530... im 32 so that sounds alotttt higher risk than both of yours does it not? OH googled the result when we got the letter but said its ok; it's low risk...but doesn't sound it from yours?

All your bump pics are lovely! A few of us are nearing the end of our pregnancy journey! Any nerves yet? I'm only 15wk and 4 days and have a long way to go yet haha! DD 3rd Jan.
But with maternity pay im in retail so it's bare basics, 90% for 6 weeks, then smp for remaining 33 weeks then nothing for last 3 months. Not looking forward to literally having less than half my wages to live on thats for sure!

Has anyone used early glimpse to guess the gender? We did a few weeks ago and they reckon 99% sure its another girl! But can't help but hope they are wrong! Xx

Kirky658 · 16/07/2021 07:46

@hopeful110 honestly I'm 27, when I got mine I was so panicked as my friends' results were 1:10000 and 1:250000! I did loads of research and spoke to the midwife who said as long as its not lower than 1:150 it's usually all good. X

Justanothercyster · 16/07/2021 08:45

@Kirky658 thank you, I'm trying to work out what's wrong with right hand as it keeps getting really tense and painful.

@Hopeful110 as Kirky mentioned I wouldn't too much, everyone's numbers vary. Is first glimpse a scan? We're keeping it surprised so not sure!

OP posts:
2020mission · 16/07/2021 09:33

@Hopeful110 I was expecting around the same as your ratio as that's whats expected for our age. You are still far off 1:150 so no need to worry! I've saw so many people on MN say they went for the NIPT when their risks came back close to or below 1:150 and none of them came back as positive that I've seen. It's a shame they don't just use the NIPT blood test as default screening as it would prevent unnecessary worrying. They weren't going to tell me the ratios on the phone the midwife initially just said "low risk". I only asked because I've seen everyone on MN get ratio results and I thought it will help me on any future pregnancies to have this pregnancy risk for comparison.

I also looked at the gender scans around my area but saw the cheapest was Β£60 and decided to wait 4 weeks until my 20 week nhs scan first incase they will tell us the gender there. That Β£60 could be better spent on things for baby πŸ˜… it's very tempting of course though! I do seem to have some willpower with scans as I waited and had my 12 week nhs scan as my first ever scan this pregnancy too despite having had chemicals before conceiving so a lot of worry - wasn't easy!

2020mission · 16/07/2021 09:42

Actually @Hopeful110 is early glimpse a scan company or is it one that just use the 12 week scan print you have? I just assumed you meant a scan πŸ˜†

I think I'm having a girl based on the nub. The ladies here also thought the same when I shared the photo a month ago but I don't mind either way. The only reason I'd like to know the gender now is to help with the naming and incase I'm drugged up at the birth and not with it enough to find out at and enjoy it at that moment! My best friend called just me after she had her baby years ago and the day after she couldn't remember ever speaking to me πŸ™ƒ so the moment can be a blur afterwards.

We're also struggling with boy names but have a couple of girl ideas so it will give us a push to think of a good boy name if it's a little boy!

Justanothercyster · 17/07/2021 19:55

I'm freaking out a bit girls πŸ˜“ baby seems to be "sideways" in my belly and i can feel them pushing down around the top of my pubic bone and it's painful! I can see what I assume is a head sticking out to my right side?! Feeling lots of kicks so assume it's ok, but I wonder if it's turning around to be head down now.

Does this sound normal?

OP posts:
Kirky658 · 17/07/2021 22:16

@justanothercyster sounds very normal, our little girl was sideways (can't think of the right term) from our 12 week scan till around last week now she's head down. From what my midwife told me they move about all the time! X

Kate105 · 18/07/2021 08:08

I agree with @Kirky658 mine never seems to be in the same position twice! My midwife said they often don't settle down until really close to birth... 😬

Justanothercyster · 18/07/2021 18:07

Thanks for the reassurance! They seem to be foot down again thanks goodness.

Is anyone else literally dying in this heat? I can't actually cope right now πŸ₯΅

OP posts:
Kirky658 · 18/07/2021 18:22

@justanothercyster I literally cannot deal with it, I've been ready to cry for most of the day πŸ˜‚ DH has been making me drink loads of iced water and I've been hiding indoors all day, walking the dog first thing or last thing. Bleurghhhhh

Justanothercyster · 18/07/2021 19:42

@Kirky658 it's actual torture! I grew up in a hot country so people keep telling me I should be used to it, but the difference is we had air con in all houses there! This is just too much πŸ₯΅ I just had a cold bath πŸ˜‚

OP posts:
Kirky658 · 18/07/2021 20:11

@justanothercyster I think as the cool kids say the heat 'just hits different' when you're pregnant 🀣πŸ”₯🀰

2020mission · 18/07/2021 20:48

I'm coping but likely just because I'm not as far along. The one thing that's bad here is my kitchen and living room is open plan so cooking leads to a roasting living room πŸ˜“ Thankfully I've got a decent fan and had it on all day. It's meant to get hotter here next week though so I'm sure I'll be struggling come then! I think I'll have to just have some salads for dinner next week and avoid cooking the place πŸ˜†

Quick question for the first time mums while I'm here... can you remember how many weeks you were when you first felt baby moving? Just wondering how far off I am now πŸ˜…

Justanothercyster · 18/07/2021 21:03

@Kirky658 πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

@2020mission salads all the way this week! We're meant to get rain next weekend and I'm secretly looking forward to it 🀣
I first felt mine move around 16 weeks but it was soooooo light and subtle. Proper little kicks around 20 weeks and just this past week (24 weeks) has baby been kicking me hard so dh can feel it and we can see it too! It's weird and amazing haha
