Hi everyone, I was wondering if anyone could possibly have any advice about the above? I had two miscarriages before I had my little boy who's now 5 then a miscarriage last august... just found out I'm pregnant on the 12th April Brain was on over drive so booked an early scan (wish I didn't now) thought I was 6 +1 but turns out I'm possibly a week out ..... gestation sac present and yolk sac present furthest I've got since my pregnancy with my son ....!

The guy was happy with the scan and everything looked healthy but now I'm freaking out there's no embryo and nothing growing.... done another test today and it's positive 3+ but my heads doing overdrive .... has anyone had an inconclusive scan and all been ok in future scans?! ....... thank you !

Every week there's a post here about someone going in for an early scan and panicking because there's not much there and most times it turns out fine. I really wish private clinics would put a limit of 7 or 8 weeks. Easier said than done but I'd try not to worry. Like you said you could be out and even if you are 6+1 then it's not a guarantee there'll be a heartbeat then, some don't show until after 7 weeks. Scans so early can cause lots of anxiety.

Mayneedanextraroom · 28/04/2021 21:19

Yes me, it’s happened twice but most recently scanned - just a GS and YS seen no baby, they said I was measuring 4/5 weeks, they could see an area of bleeding too and to prepare myself for the worst (I should have been 6+4, fast forward to today and to my shock there is a baby measuring 7+1 with a lovely heartbeat (this puts me exactly 1 week behind the dates I had going by my LMP dates).

I only had a scan due to bleeding and right sided pain, and the last 11 days have been incredibly stressful waiting. I hope everything works out for you x

This ^ I'm so sorry you've suffered a miscarriage. Did you go to one of the high street scan places or did you make an appointment with an obstetrician? A doctor is really the person best placed to reassure you which is what is sounds like you needed. A lot of these private scan places are sadly little more than a souvenir. Sending lots of positive thoughts your way.
PurBal · 28/04/2021 21:26

And yes I had a bleed at 5w4 so was referred to EPU. Had to wait another 2 weeks to see if baby was viable. I'm now 30 weeks.

Elouera · 28/04/2021 21:30

Sorry for you losses. Am I correct you have a son and also had 3 MC's? If so, have you discussed a viability scan with your GP or EPU? (or who ever saw you with the MC's?)

After my 2nd MC, my EPU said they'd be happy to do a viability scan in any future pregnancy at 7-8 weeks due to my history. Certainly worth asking about, especially if this private scan seemed out from your dates. At 6 weeks though, you are talking mm's, so its really, really tiny. They generally won'd do a viability scan till 7-8weeks, because there is not much to see prior to that. best of luck and let us know how you get on x

SillyBry · 28/04/2021 22:24

I was referred to EPU for a scan at 5+4 as I only have one tube left/previous ectopic so considered “high risk” for further ectopics.
They say the gestational sac, but no fetal pole or heartbeat. They were perfectly happy with that - but did explain to me that they couldn’t say for sure that the pregnancy was viable at that stage due to no heartbeat.
But they reassured me that the sole purpose of the scan was to rule out ectopic, which it did. And that now the pregnancy had as good a chance as any other of succeeding. They said even if I went back a week later and saw the heartbeat, something could still go wrong. An early scan is simply a snapshot of that moment of development and not necessarily a reassurance that it will all be ok, if that makes sense?
Wishing you lots of sticky baby dust!

Thank you all so much for replying and sharing your experiances means so much and helps a lot! I will call the EPU today and Lee you all updated! Thanks again! Smile

I had a scan at EPU at 5+6 weeks that showed gestational sac only, but even yolk.

Went back 2 weeks later and saw a little bean with HB. Now 18 weeks pregnant.
As PP said, it's so, so early that it's quite typical for fetal pole not to be visible. Easier said than done but try not to worry and just keep busy until your next scan.

LunaDreams · 29/04/2021 17:12

That was meant to say *not even a yolk sac

thorny87 · 30/04/2021 11:49

So I have an appointment at 1.00pm tomorrow at the EPU either I'm spotting or it's happening again ...😢

@thorny87
So I have had 2 MC's previously. I had the same problem with one of my pregnancy about not seeing yolk sac. Until I went back at 15 wks and then they saw baby growing(this is with my eldest daughter now who is 12)I have 2 daughter aged 12 and 6. It has taken me 6 years to conceive bump now. I've been through so much. I contacted GP regarding pregnancy and was hold to do self referral. I did this and explained my history but was told they can't do anything. However I have been pleading with doctors and epu and finally got a scan for Monday. I am wondering how far I am because my periods were irregular.

Are you showing(bump wise) because I am

thorny87 · 30/04/2021 20:15

@jade0881 it's just so worrying isn't it .... I did what you did I finally got the EPU to see me tomorrow and my gp to refer me I don't no about you but I felt like I really had to fight for them to finally listen 3 mcs and they didn't really feel worried... very odd! I know my previous mcs my boobs would stop hurting straight away and they still hurt and it's really light not that heavy test still saying 3+ ..... we are all very strong women people say try and relax in the first 12 weeks you try but wow it's easier said then done x
