@biscuitcat A formal offer has not been put in place because of the fact I didn't want to commit to a start date yet - I told them about the pregnancy when I was 13 weeks and at the time I really didn't know when I'd be coming back. I still don't know in fact. But we've had 3 months worth of discussions and this flexibility was agreed between us. I knew I take the risk of them pulling out, but we were in such advanced discussions and really clicked well that I thought they wouldn't drop out completely.

They replied, admitted that they've hired someone but they still want to engage with me when I'm ready. Like fuck I'm going to "engage with them", I'm done. Good luck with their new addition, he'll need more babysitting than my newborn son (I know who he is). xx

@PurplePansy05 I don't know why but that somehow feels worse?? What absolute idiots!!!

Absolutely @Daffodil21. It's a soften the blow, sheepish response and they're obviously hopeful they may get me in to work in a more junior capacity next year, since there is no space for two heads doing the same thing. Dream on.

I will be laughing my socks off if he fails the probation period.

And generally, I will be the one who will have the last laugh.

I am not normally that competitive and wish everyone well, but cross me like they did today and there's no stopping me. They better fasten their seatbelts cause this guy stands no chance competing with me when I'm back, we're obviously in the same geographic area. xx

@PurplePansy05 they're just a load of immoral bellends by the sounds of it - and as you say, it sounds like the best revenge is going to be you hugely outperforming their hire when you're back and showing them the error of their ways.

I'll be so satisfied with you if he fails the probation!

Wow, you guys have been busy today!

@Inmypjsagain I am RH Negative and have been given an appointment to have the injection. Nothing about needing another test in between, this was just because of my booking on bloods.

I love all the name ideas - I’m still quite stuck. All my favs have already been taken (that’s what happens when you come late to the parenting club!). I love Max but it’s a close friend’s name. I really wanted Ted but my husband doesn’t want an abbreviation. He likes Jewish origin names like Jacob or Isaac but we’re not Jewish so wondered if that was an odd choice? For now we’ve taken a break to see how they sit.
Had it been a girl we’d have named her Etta after her grandmother - I’m still secretly a tiny bit sad it’s another boy as ALL my nephews and cousins’ kids are boys. I know it sounds silly but I’m worried my mum will be disappointed it’s not a girl so I’ve not told her yet in case I can read it in her reaction. Is that crazy?! She’s kept lots of girly toys just in case..

@PurplePansy05 that’s so frustrating, especially after you were so honest with them. I guess it’s better to know now what they are like though.

Ps I should say by another boy I mean as well as those also in the family, it’s my first and I want people to be as excited for me as they have been for everyone else who had babies much earlier

I agree @LottSE20 and @biscuitcat. I'm just going to breathe now and repeat after Michelle Obama, when they go low, we go high. xx

That's really shady behaviour on their part @PurplePansy05 and makes me wonder how long they would have just let you hang about. It's definitely better you know now and can make other arrangements in the meanwhile. I'm a firm believer in what passes you by wasn't going to be any good for you...doesn't stop it being a bit shitty still.

Loving all the shortlisted names. I've always had a very fixed idea on boy names and had never thought much about girl one. DH and I are a little taken by the name Elayna....what do you think?
Haven't told my family as they are hyper critical and prob won't like it. Asked SIL and she was fairly blasé about it and suggested a name straight out of the 70s simply because it sounded like hers!

Daffodil21 · 29/04/2021 17:17

@LottSE20 could you have Edward shortened to Ted? Isaac is my all time favourite name but we can't have it because with our surname it sounds very very rude! It's interesting you say Jacob as that was my second choice after Elliot (we're not Jewish either)

@Dia12 Thanks. You are right, I agree with this. I guess I am already winning by being angry at such poor behaviour. It's a moral win, but extra £25k p/a wouldn't do harm, especially now...But I'll get there. I will. I'm so annoyed now, and usually when I get like this I turn it into motivation to get better and win this way. The right opportunity will come. And I have the best thing coming soon regardless. 💙

I love Elayna and all similar names likes Alayna, Elena (that was on my shortlist for a girl). I think they're in the unique and classy group. xx

I am absolutely loving all the name suggestions they are all gorgeous
I’ve had my little boy name pretty much from the start and my other half just happened to love it as well- Dougie, hopefully no turning back as he’s got some personalised shoes already 😂
I also had Molly down if I were having a girl x

@Daffodil21 OK maybe in over thinking it!

I personally think it’s better not to tell people until baby is born, then they aren’t allowed to be rude (at least not to your face!)

Report
biscuitcat · 29/04/2021 17:56

@Dia12 to add another similar one into the mix, I also love Eleanor (sadly a close friend is called that and another has just had a baby Eleanor so we can't use it)

@LottSE20 I think lots of names of Jewish origin are quite universal, it wouldn't read as weird to me at all if someone without Jewish heritage was to go down that route - Jacob and Isaac are just lovely names. Could you also do Theodore as a long form for Ted?

Report
alittlexmasmagic · 29/04/2021 17:58

@Dia12 that's a very pretty name, although I've never seen it spelt that way. If I heard it I'd automatically assume Elena (not a criticism I'll add, just me).

I'm way too picky with names. DH likes simpler more traditional names, Joe, Jack, Max etc. Whilst I don't dislike them I can't help but associate them with people I went to school with. Then whilst I've never met an awful Matthew, I'm not a huge fan of just Matt, which it would inevitably get shortened to. Never met a nasty Richard either, if anyone needs a classic name that's really low in the popularity rankings.

We've got a long surname too, think "Canterbury" so that vetos all ie and y names.

Then I can't forget how "of a time" my middle name is. It seems every other friend my age has either Jayne or Louise. I adore Rose as a middle name and it's in my shortlist but I'm so worried that my daughter could in 20 odd years time be wishing like me now, that I'd been more open to others.

My job is a support role for sites worldwide and I see some absolute crackers. Muffin, Semen & Tyranny being top of my list.

Now excuse all my rambling thoughts 😂

Yes @MrsB2019x that’s exactly what it feels like, I was wondering if anyone else felt the same! Makes me feel so uncomfortable when he does it!

@LottSE20 thank you! That makes sense and that’s what I thought too. I asked at the hospital today but I was only booked in for the blood test, so I asked the lady doing it and all she said it was antibody screening. So I suppose I need to ask someone more senior than my midwife, because my midwife said she didn’t know... ah my head spins. Going to be a day of calling people tomorrow I think!

@PurplePansy05 in a more junior capacity?! That’s outrageous, the cheek, as if you’d want to take that on! I’ve been really disappointed with what I’ve seen and heard about companies in pregnancy.

Oh loving this name talk. I looked at the ONS and my favourites are old top 10s- not sure about husbands or how we’re going to come to agreement.

@Caz1226 I love Dougie! Think it’s such a cool name!

I love Elayna! When I see Elena I think of it being pronounced like Eleanor though, I know 2 Eleanors- one pronounced like Elena and the other Ellienore.

Ha I quite like Muffin! I love Rosie as a middle or first name because I think Rosie is sweet. I’m realising I like a lot of names but for some reason can’t imagine naming this baby any of them! I really think I need to see what he looks like so he could just be called Baby for a while!

I also love Jacob and Isaac, Biblical and classic. I love Zachary too. And Noah. @Daffodil21 I’m really sitting here trying to think of what surname would make Isaac sound rude.... 🧐

@Daffodil21 omg I guessed that about 20 seconds after posting because I just could not think of a swear word be going with C! I thought your surname could have been Ock at first 😂 but yes, lol, understood, that would be a difficult name especially after secondary school. Elliot is such a beautiful name and goes well with your surname too!

Ock 😂😂😂😂 I am howling here! Baby brains all over the place!

@Inmypjsagain They didn't say that (they wouldn't dare 😂) but I've guessed that anyway because like I said there can only be one head of the team, right? I don't suppose they'll offer me a directorship so it can only go one way, more junior. Or so they think. AFAIAC, the only way is straight in the bin 😂 xx

I agree I hate it when people feel the need to tell you they don’t like the name you’ve picked so I stopped telling people! It’s so rude!
My eldest is Teddy and when I had him there was none and everyone was quite shocked and thought we were mad but 18 years later there’s loads about. Funnily enough my other 2 boys names have become more popular since I had them too.
I like unusual names and unfortunately as I teach and have been for 15 years I have taught a lot of children and lots of names are a complete no for me for either being so popular (think 3 in every class) or I’m put off the name because of the child! Luckily the name I’ve chosen is both unusual and I’ve never taught one so it rocks both boxes!
