@LottSE20 it's worth a try. Definitely check your posture though. Your bump will have added extra inches between you and the keyboard so what was a comfy position isn't any longer. You can get clip on chair back supports which might help too x

wimbler · 25/05/2021 09:47

@LottSE20 i have a back support similar to what @alittlexmasmagic mentions and it has really helped the ached and pains I was getting at my desk. I've also got a memory foam cushion to sit on that has a little notch cut out of it that takes pressure off my tailbone. good posture really helps - i get the pain you are describing when I'm sat on the sofa in the evening, I've had to start sitting on my ball to watch tv which is no fun!

Whatshouldbemyusername · 25/05/2021 09:47

Hello ladies.

Hope everyone is ok! I have an anterior placenta and I'm at week 27+2 today. I'm having severe lower back pain - esp on the left side.

Is anyone having these too and doing anything to help get rid of it. I did stretching. Deep breathing too x

Ready2020 · 25/05/2021 09:52

Is anyone going to do any massage of your bits to help prevent tearing? Or even get an Aniball? I'm seriously considering the Aniball. I think you don't start using it until 32 weeks.

lucyrp · 25/05/2021 10:28

Girls that have had the GTT have you all got a history of diabetes in your immediate family ? The midwife double checked that with me yesterday and when I said no she said I didn't need one!

lucyrp · 25/05/2021 10:32

@Ready2020 I'm not going to, I didn't with my first and had no tears and I researched it a while back and the percentage of women who didn't tear last time it made only the minimalist difference the second time if they did perineal massage. I also don't really like touching myself on the inside. Flesh isn't my thing 😳😂x

wimbler · 25/05/2021 10:34

@ready2020 I was planning on starting massage at 34 weeks as recommended by my pelvic floor physio. She swears by it and says 3-4 times a week for 10 mins has great results.

alittlexmasmagic · 25/05/2021 10:36

@lucyrp no family history but I'm overweight so automatically qualify.

@wimbler I've got one of those somewhere. I used to take it everywhere with me in my 1st pregnancy and need to find it now places are opening up. I took it to restaurants & weddings when I knew I'd be sitting for a long time, to come back from a loo break and find a pensioner sat on it to ease their aches & pains 😆 x

alittlexmasmagic · 25/05/2021 10:37

DH has already been told perineal massage will initiate in 8 wks time and it's his job x

BertieBotts · 25/05/2021 10:38

The whole idea of that ball seems totally crazy to me - I would avoid it!

Anecdotally the massage is supposed to help but I didn't do it either time, only had a minor tear the first time despite baby being in a bad position and didn't tear at all the second time even though I pushed him out really fast because I was totally fed up of being in labour!

Stretching with a ball sounds like a really bad idea to me - your vagina doesn't work that way and sounds like you could just end up causing yourself an injury which wouldn't be nice just before birth. Massage at least makes some sense in terms of softening the tissues.

Angelesque · 25/05/2021 10:41

@lucyrp no family history here - sole reason I was referred is because my first baby was huge (9lb9) and I’m only 5’2”. Had a tricky birth last time which I am sure was down to size of baby/ massive head!

Whatshouldbemyusername · 25/05/2021 10:51

@lucyrp no family history or weight issues but due to ethnicity I was referred to GTT x

Hoares3 · 25/05/2021 13:08

@lucyrp my mum has diabetes that is why I was referred

biscuitcat · 25/05/2021 15:38

@LottSE20 yes definitely getting pains, mine is always under my right ribs - it's quite sharp and really unpleasant (I keep poking the baby and telling them to move, starting to get kicks in response!). For me I think it might be baby's head, as he/she was breech at 28 weeks and I don't think there's been a change since then based on location of my movements (though I know it can be hard to tell).

lucyrp · 25/05/2021 17:08

Does anyone feel like their pregnancy was going so slow and now suddenly it's gone so fast ?🥺

Inmypjsagain · 25/05/2021 18:03

@BertieBotts thank you! Husband caught me with the cornflour and was like wtf are you doing! Lol! Agreed about being thankful there’s no loo paper shortage- I’m up and down like a yoyo!

@alittlexmasmagic not near any animals but I’ve now got 5 splodges on my neck and on my bikini line too. So could just be a rash but I need
To get to chemist.

@Whatshouldbemyusername I’ve got an anterior placenta and my pelvis lower/back region always hurts. Are they correlated? Walking is meant to be good but I find it so uncomfortable, the thing that helps me most are glute bridges using a training band (I can’t for the life of me remember what the bands are called Confused) and sleeping with a pillow wedged between my legs!

@lucyrp did you get referred for a growth scan (I ask cos my midwife referred me for mine cos bump is under 10th percentile, she said she’d do the same at over 90 plus a GD test) no harm pushing for a GD test though? It’s odd you’re not being given one cos I thought that was the point in measuring bumps- to give you a head’s up!

Inmypjsagain · 25/05/2021 18:04

@lucyrp and yes! First trimester could not have gone more slowly. I barely remember the second cos it went by in a flash and now it’s only 10 weeks ish til baby is (hopefully) here!!!!! Am so nervous!

Smurf123 · 25/05/2021 18:19

Hope everyone is well. I had another growth scan today and so far all looking good.. Baby estimated to be about 3lbs currently. Apparently lying transverse atm which she said she hasn't seen in a while but is OK at this stage.. Could explain why I feel like my ribs are going to explode at times.
I also have an anterior placenta and have had a constant sore back apparently they are related..
We are currently getting our garage converted so no chance have we started a nursery. Tbh I prob won't until baby is here. She will be in with us for first 6 months anyway and I still struggle having baby stuff here before baby here safely.

Inmypjsagain · 25/05/2021 18:22

@Smurf123 my baby transverse too! Interesting about the back pain and anterior placenta-
Will google! Glad your scan went well 😊

lucyrp · 25/05/2021 18:27

@Inmypjsagain I'm only getting a growth scan if my next measurement has gone up and not followed the same trend or something ?? I hope it doesn't mean I have a big baby. Was hoping for a smaller baby than my first 🥺🤣 the MW said it's likely baby could come at 38 weeks like my first too so I'm on countdown til then 😳

Inmypjsagain · 25/05/2021 18:37

@lucyrp I sound like a broken record but I’m so surprised how standard procedure is different at each trust. If I measure small again at 32 weeks I’ll be off for another scan. Guess the midwives know what to do but I still find it odd! Was your first big?38 weeks! Eek!

lucyrp · 25/05/2021 18:42

@Inmypjsagain my MW used to work at a different trust and she said I wouldn't normally send you for a scan for this but I'll just double check with the ladies here that they'd do the same so she checked with the other MW and they said no only by next time🤷🏼‍♀️ my next appointment is at 31 weeks, he was 8 pounds 1 and was born at 38+5 ! This time this baby has a different dad and my OH is smaller build so was expecting a smaller baby maybe 🙈 or around the same size

biscuitcat · 25/05/2021 18:51

Has anyone seen the news story about NICE putting out draft guidelines about induction? Apparently they're now recommending women are induced at 41 weeks rather than waiting for 42 to reduce the risk of stillbirth, with final recommendations due in October. I know my trust usually lets women go to 40+12, this is making me wonder if I should request to be induced at 41 weeks if I've not already gone into labour?

Inmypjsagain · 25/05/2021 18:59

@lucyrp that’s really interesting- either way they’ll keep an eye so that’s good. Was your OH a small baby? I kinda expected a big baby- I’m 5ft 10 and husband 6ft 2 and broad- but we were both under 6lb 5oz when born... so I wonder if adult sizes have much to do with it?

@biscuitcat I saw that- only on the mail though, but if I don’t get a c section I’d ask to be induced because 41 weeks sounds hellish tbh! But then I don’t know if there’s risks around induction? Need
To give it a read up but it’s something I’d
Probably ask at a Midwife appointment

wimbler · 25/05/2021 19:13

With the risk of still birth I actually did some research about this. It’s something like from 41 to 42 weeks the chance of still birth increases by 50% BUT the absolute risk is still really low and goes from 0.4 births in every 1000 (0.04%) to 0.6 in every 1000 (0.06%). The risk is still really low. This is a great article - evidencebasedbirth.com/evidence-on-inducing-labor-for-going-past-your-due-date/
