@Champson i'm heartbroken for you. I honestly don't know what to say other than that i'm thinking of you and praying for little Holly.

BertieBotts · 29/04/2021 07:22

So sorry to hear your news Champson. Will keep your family and Holly in my thoughts.

BertieBotts · 29/04/2021 07:26

Hermit I always feel like the massive loads are a false economy because of exactly this question - how to dry a bigger load?

However I am told it's very useful to have a large drum if you want to wash duvets at home rather than trying to drag them to a laundrette! I have to admit I am a total slattern and simply rarely/never wash my duvets. Blush

Anyway, never had an issue with a 6kg machine except for me being too lazy/disorganised to keep up with the washing. The most important thing IME is that your machine has a setting that you can do a wash in about an hour or less, because there will be times you only have that amount of time to quickly fit something into your schedule.

PurplePansy05 · 29/04/2021 07:37

Well, I have the same size tumble dryer so just dry a load in it?

A small washing machine would drive me nuts even now, not to mention later. But it's clearly a matter of personal preference, circumstances and habits. I never appreciated people do many more loads weekly or even daily! I'm just lazy with this, I like saving time, don't like constant loading and unloading and tbh we bought a larger machine that is eco-friendly so it saves us money on water, electricity and washing powder. I've had it 4/5 years now and nothing has ever gone wrong with it. I now understand maybe that's also because I'm using it less than average haha Wink xx

MrsB2019x · 29/04/2021 08:04

I don’t even have a tumble dryer and not planning on getting one, not sure if that might change when little lady is here 😂 we have a 7kg washing machine and a full machine’s worth fits on our airer perfectly so never really had an issue. Can probably fit two loads on our line outside but know that will be time limited come August 😕

How is everyone coming along with names? We decided ours a couple of days ago and it’s feeling so much more real now!

alittlexmasmagic · 29/04/2021 08:33

@MrsB2019x I'm really struggling for boys names. We only had one lined up for DS, then ignored all our own conditions with the twins. We've got two lovely girls options, which we've had all along.x

Daffodil21 · 29/04/2021 08:33

@MrsB2019x we accidentally chose ours ages ago 🙈 when we left the hospital after our last scan there was a van outside saying 'Elliott's office supplies'

The name we had already chosen is Elliot! (One 't' though) what are the chances 😂

@MrsB2019x weve got two lovely names sorted for both boy and girl baby as not checking the gender. I LOVE both the names and I'm going to keep the other one banked just in case I have a second baby (which I want to) and it's the opposite sex 😍

lucyrp · 29/04/2021 08:51

@MrsB2019x had the same boys name for a few years and desperate to use it as my best friend decided recently that she rather likes it and will be using it for hers.... girls names I only have one that I even kind of like. Finding it really difficult !

Carefree1 · 29/04/2021 08:54

I have one of those washer/dryers. Admittedly the dryer aspect isn’t as great as a normal tumble dryer, but I had to get a dishwasher and an American ff, so sadly don’t have the room. But, it does the job!

@MrsB2019x we’ve already got the name for our little girl too. It’s lovely to be able to refer to her now.

@Daffodil21 that’s brilliant! And a lovely name. Ours started from a film title and I thought Oo that’s a nice girls name 😂 x

BertieBotts · 29/04/2021 08:56

Nope, still stuck on names here!

My favourites that DH doesn't hate are Lars, Alex and Max. DH has suddenly really got into Niko/Nikolas but I'm not really warming to it. DS1 suggested Mathis. (Pron. Mattis)

Daffodil21 · 29/04/2021 08:58

@Carefree1 we struggled with girls' names! When we came out of a scan where we found out he was a bit the first thing we said was 'good job as we didn't have a clue for girls' names!' 😂 I have no idea where Elliot came from, it's nice to have a little story that goes behind it!

I'm intrigued by all your choices and can't wait to find out! I know I'm probably a little odd sharing mine, but we've already told close family anyway..!

@BertieBotts I love Alex!

Ready2020 · 29/04/2021 09:08

We had a few boys names we liked as we just presumed it was going to be a boy as we've got 5 nephews between us. When we found out she was a girl we were a bit stunned (a little disappointed, if we're allowed to admit that, as we were actually hoping for a boy) and had no names picked.

We've got a list going though and add to it when we find names we like. I've got my favourite and call her that sometimes but we'll decide when she's here.

Smurf123 · 29/04/2021 09:11

We have a girls name as it was the only name we had agreed on for ds who we didn't know if he was a boy or a girl.. It looks like we are having a girl this time so we are planning to use it.
The only thing is ds best friend in creche is called the name we have picked and when we have mentioned it to him about the baby being called x he laughs and replies x isn't a baby she's a big girl 🤣
Dh is Danish and his family are all there. It's hard to find names that are pronounced the same in both languages! Niko / Nikolaj, Mattias and Thomas were also in dh list for a boy.. I'm less fussed on them though

Inmypjsagain · 29/04/2021 09:16

I know **Champson you’re probably no longer on the thread, but just wanted to say how sorry I am for your sad news. Sending all my thoughts, best wishes and love to you all, especially little Holly xxx

PurplePansy05 · 29/04/2021 09:20

@Smurf123 I have the same problem, still trying to pick something easy to pronounce and spell in other languages. I don't really like any of the boys' names and DH and I wouldn't pick the same ones so far. So it's not going to be easy and it's started to annoy me now as I feel we probably should have a shortlist. I can't see doing it after he's born when I'm exhausted and the last thing I want is scrolling through pages of names 🤦🏼‍♀️. Alex is ok and I have thought about this name, but not sure yet. My close friend has a boy called Alex but he's nearly 4? She's had another baby since too. Not sure if it's too close or not. xx

Inmypjsagain · 29/04/2021 09:24

I’m so nosey about domestic stuff, I don’t know why I like hearing how many loads of washing people do! Ours is only 7kg but we do at least 4 loads a week, 2x for clothes, one for towels, one for bedsheets. Back when we went to the gym we had a gym wash too. I can’t imagine what It'll be like when baby is here- I guess we won’t be able to use our normal washing stuff either? We usually use Method.

Those of you who regularly Tumble dry, what are your tricks for creases? Our stuff comes out so creased so I prefer to air dry.

We have no clue on names, I’m hoping he’s born and suits a name 😂 we also don’t know what we’re doing with surnames, I kept mine when we got married, our names sound silly double barrelled so we’re working that out first!

Whatshouldbemyusername · 29/04/2021 09:24

Alex is a beautiful name! X

Whatshouldbemyusername · 29/04/2021 09:27

I'm Kenyan Indian and my husband is British carribean so the names we selected had to be an overlap of cultures

It's always harder (and fun sometimes) when people are in relationships with different cultures when looking for names I think.

Oh also - a total dinosaur but how do you private message on this? X

LaceyMermaid · 29/04/2021 09:28

@Daffodil21 I’d have 2 dishwashers too if I had room! 🤣 I didn’t find the washing got too bad until my boys got to about 5 and up, then football kits etc all kicked in and I ended up with 2 washing machines after that 🤣
We’ve got 2 names that we like - leaning more towards the one I was going to call DS1 if he was girl - I think if we still like it 18 years later we must really like it! It’s so hard choosing a name though and I still have a fear they got the gender wrong and it’ll be a boy which means finding a 4th boys name which we were finding very hard before our scan!

LaceyMermaid · 29/04/2021 09:30

@Inmypjsagain I only find it creases if I put a lot on the dryer, if I put less in it doesn’t crease which is good because I don’t iron unless I have to!

Dia12 · 29/04/2021 09:31

Just catching up on the thread and really saddened to hear of your loss @Champson, your beautiful little twins will always feel your love and warmth and will always love you as much you love them. Sending lots of strength to Holly....and to you and your partner.
I found Sands really helpful in speaking to when I lost my baby but in all honesty it took a while before anyone could actually help me.
Please let us know how Holly gets on xx

alittlexmasmagic · 29/04/2021 09:34

@Whatshouldbemyusername you can private message through the website but not through the app. So if you open up MN on your browser it should let you x

PurplePansy05 · 29/04/2021 09:35

You use the three dots on the side of the post @Whatshouldbemyusername, at least in a browser, not sure about the app. I don't use the app as it kept crashing on my phone.

I agree it's difficult with mixed cultures, theoretically it should be a wider choice, but it's not, you actually often try to find the overlap that you like.

@Inmypjsagain I bought a tumble dryer reducing creases and it works! It was a great investment although I was looking at the price at the time thinking wth, it better be good. It is good. I iron clothes as well but it doesn't take me much time as they look pretty good already. I also have a way of folding T-shirts, jumpers etc. which I've learned years ago at uni at my temp job at John Lewis. No creases! Quite a lot of our clothes hang in the wardrobes too as soon as they're dry/ironed. xx
