@wimbler thanks for the link babe. I've just ordered a set!

Yes for the scan he only come for week 12 and 20.

I did want him to be there for MW appointment only coz mainly I live in NW London and the hospital I've picked is in central. Will get him to do the tests since I've ordered and take him with me for MW appointments in June x

Smurf123 · 05/05/2021 11:03

@alittlexmasmagic thanks just been told to.come get blood test and not allowed back in until they get results to see if I'm immune incase other kids have it and aren't showing symptoms yet.
Yesterday I didn't have much with him as we had outdoor learning and then he came out pretty quickly in rash so was sent home at lunch but it's a sen school so close contact (think being climbed over and sneezed/ licked/ bit 🙈) is pretty common place so I will have had contact over the past week - we were off Monday at least..
Gp said many adults likely immune and that there's not really anything they can do other than watch and see anyway. She did say greatest risk is in first trimester. I'm a little worried as from reading one of the biggest consequences seems to be that it can lead to anaemia in the baby and that was something I was already worrying about as ds was born anaemic and needed a blood transfusion but they never could figure out why he was anaemic! Baby is helpfully kicking away this morning though so that's reassuring and I know worrying isn't going to solve anything just have to wait on the results..
I've taught in early years for the best part of 9 years including some time subbing covering for a pregnant teacher in a nursery school who was off due to cases of slapped cheek in the nursery everytimw she thought she was coming back another kid would come down with it so I'm hoping that means I have immunity.. 🤞

Daffodil21 · 05/05/2021 12:37

I've got a really stupid question about muslins....

So I bought some from Matalan (cute Peter rabbit ones - 3 for £5.50 which I didn't think was too bad!). I thought they were small ones which I can definitely see a use for, but they are 71 x 71 cm... what do you use this size for?? Blush

@Whatshouldbemyusername, I’d be more pissed off with the government for lack of border controls than for the hospitals trying to do the right thing to keep their patients and staff safe. Opening up appointments by offering lateral flow testing feels like a positive move forwards from the blanket decision that partners could only attend 12/20week scan and when in you’re in active labour.

If the vaccine fails & we end up with another surge it will be due to travel to other countries without implementing a decent test/isolation programme for all travellers . In my opinion it’s just not good enough and it puts the most vulnerable at risk again to win a few votes.

@Smurf123, fingers crossed all is ok on your test!

alittlexmasmagic · 05/05/2021 12:53

@Daffodil21 you can use them for anything & everything! A lightweight sleep cover, mattress cover if baby vomiting, a feeding screen, emergency sun hat (hanky style) just to name a few x

wimbler · 05/05/2021 12:59

@Daffodil21 I thought they sounded big but I looked up the ones I have loads of from john lewis and they're the same - that's standard size I think. I personally wouldn't have wanted them much smaller that that! perfect size in my opinion

the extra large ones are good too and can be used as a sheet or a swaddle too.

wimbler · 05/05/2021 13:03

@HopefulB I completely agree with you re: foreign travel. I'm really nervous that opening up our boarders is going to make the UK really vulnerable to another surge. Personally I'd be way more comfortable with strict travel restrictions for a longer time. I understand there are many reasons for travel and it's been incredibly hard for people with family overseas but I just don't feel like opening up leisure travel when we are barely a month into restrictions easing is a sensible idea. god knows how many cases are going to come back from all the folk off on their jollies

lucyrp · 05/05/2021 13:03

@Daffodil21 70x70 seems a perfect size! Anything over 1m squared I wouldn't suggest but yours sound great!

Daffodil21 · 05/05/2021 13:03

Thanks @alittlexmasmagic and @wimbler ! Very obvious FTM here!!!

@Whatshouldbemyusername my trust have changed now, partners can come to both scans (previously only 12 weeks) but we’ve been given no info on midwife appointments but I don’t think he’d attend anyway. Shame you have to go into central for midwife appts, I can just waddle to my local health clinic when they’re seeing face to face. Hopefully the quick tests will allow him to come and support you. But see, this still bugs me that nct has moved online when even hospitals Are loosening restrictions, wed he happy to take a test to meet people face to face! x

@Smurf123 hope test goes okay 🤞🏼

Got woken up by what I can only imagine is the baby karate chopping me!!! I can’t imagine how much weird it’s going to be when movement is more constant and tummy is bigger! Desk chair is also given me a back ache now because I feel I can’t angle myself properly... when bump is bigger I imagine that’ll get more awkward too! Never thought of this pre pregnancy!

LaceyMermaid · 05/05/2021 13:39

@Smurf123 glad you’ve heard back from gp, I know from my last pregnancy that when this happens the child will be allowed in school with slapped cheek so you need to stay away until you know if you have had it or not. Hopefully you have 🤞🏻

Smurf123 · 05/05/2021 13:41

@LaceyMermaid thanks.. Yes he's back in today.. Nurse said bloods won't even be sent off today so I'm imagining I won't hear back to next week.

Inmypjsagain · 05/05/2021 13:43

Embarrassing question, but does anyone else really smell at the moment? I had this in first trimester but I just stink. I shower in the morning and evening,
am on top of hair removal and am wearing anti perspirant and deodorant. Surely I shouldn’t smell?! Is it just hormones and a super sense of smell?

Ready2020 · 05/05/2021 17:20

@Inmypjsagain I've been smelling myself since day one. I shower every day too but by end of day I would take another but can't be arsed. Might be my sense of smell getting very good but it's probably just me 😂

Also way too much info but the discharge through pregnancy! That never gets discussed! I thought I had an issue but midwife says it's all very normal. Minging though.

lucyrp · 05/05/2021 17:28

@Ready2020 omg literally just had this conversation with my OH because he was like surely that's not normal 😂🤣 I'm fed up of it

BertieBotts · 05/05/2021 17:34

The small muslins are too annoying, big ones are best.

I don't seem to be too stinky at the moment but def was in first trimester! And yes to endless discharge - I hate it. I get loads normally though so I'm fairly used to it.

For smells I do find using bar soap rather than shower gel is much better.

I had a query slapped cheek with DS2 and my doctor said not to worry too much because it's only pre 20 weeks they are really concerned about it, but they did a blood test anyway and

DH has had his vaccine, the doctor who did all his pre assessment forms was really positive about it and suggested I speak to my doctor about getting it myself. I don't want to 😫😅 but I suppose I can't really be a wuss considering two people have now had it on my behalf Blush DH did suggest I might be able to have it done at the doctor's office instead of at a centre which would probably be better in case I faint Blush

Inmypjsagain · 05/05/2021 17:44

Okay that makes me feel better, thanks ladies, I actually saw another thread about smelling in first trimester and I was smug I’d passed that stage. I think they recommended dettol bar soap so I think I’ll try that. Just don’t like being so smelly Blush

Actually discharge was really bad Til about 3 weeks ago and I’d say I’m at pre pregnancy levels now. Pregnancy is far more gross than I anticipated! 😂

Has anyone got a linea nigra yet? My stomach has nothing except veins!

@BertieBotts so is it more the thought of the injection rather than the actual vaccine that’s putting you off? If it makes you feel better, I get faint after every blood test I’ve had- with the exception of the one last week- I’ve actually only blacked out a handful of times but I’m well acquainted with the bed at the surgery and spotty vision!

BertieBotts · 05/05/2021 18:04

Yes defo injection that's the problem. I'd take a flumist type vaccine tomorrow if that was available. They make me really panicky especially in the muscle - I'm better with blood tests now as with so many pregnancies in Germany I've probably had about 30-40 in the last 5 years. So I've got used to it. Probably the same would happen with IM injections as well if I had to have lots but the last time I needed a jab was a tetanus booster in 2016! And they warned me I needed to get more top ups because my previous one was over 10 years before but I never went Blush

Just realised I did not finish the previous post - when they tested me I was negative for exposure anyway.

Ready2020 · 05/05/2021 18:06

My tum is looking fairly normal (well except for a big bump but skin is still the same). I've started to put moisturiser on every night though just in case.

I had my 27/28 week midwife appointment today. Didn't need the glucose drink but got blood tests for diabetes, antibodies and iron. Plus got my tummy measurement for the first time. She checked where baby was sitting and she's head down and feet up at my ribs which is good. Apparently she shouldn't move from that. Heart beat checked again and all good.

BertieBotts · 05/05/2021 18:16

Oh and I've never had any linea nigra, I can only assume some women don't get one?

I think baby has gone feet up for me. Defo getting stronger kicks at the top now.

Daffodil21 · 05/05/2021 18:55

I'm definitely finding that I feel a little sweaty in the mornings! Haven't noticed a smell but maybe other have 😂

Just to add to the embarrassingness - anyone else extra gassy...? Like to the point where it actually hurts?! Oddly more in the evenings!

OP posts:
wimbler · 05/05/2021 19:15

@Inmypjsagain I had a very distinct linea nigra with my first and I’m sure I had it quite early on but so far no sign of one so not sure if I will get one this time. Had my 28 week midwife appt today and had sugar in my urine so have to go back and have it checked again next week. Have had a bit of a naughty day with treats but midwife asked if ate anything sugary before the appointment 🙈. Baby is also breech atm. I know there’s plenty of time for them to flip and flop but after one breech baby I’m convinced I’ll have another! i’ll be gutted!

Daffodil21 · 05/05/2021 19:34

Oh wow. I just let one slip in the supermarket. It was loud 🙈 ultimate low point!

OP posts:
HopefulB · 05/05/2021 19:37

@Daffodil21 OMG, yes.

I’m definitely more sensitive to smell - told the OH he needed a shower the other day, and it feels like our bed sheets need washing more frequently otherwise I think the room smells stale! Self wise I can sort of smell the dead skin if that makes sense?!

biscuitcat · 05/05/2021 19:48

Oh that's really interesting about breech movements, I'd never thought of that! Most of my movements are really low, right at the very bottom of my bump, with some around my belly button but none really higher than that. Could that indicate that baby is breech?

@Daffodil21 yes definitely more gassy here!! Weirdly I would also say more in the evenings
