Following on from the first thread which is nearly full, here we are with another thread to keep us going through the first trimester and beyond.

Welcome Smile. I'm Alack, currently 8+something with twins, due 2 November but likely to make an early appearance. Also have DD (3).

Currently on the group we mostly seem to be food-averse insomniacs who just want a nap, so here's hoping for some pregnancy glow! Grin And less anxiety as the weeks go on.

I’m excited for all of you with 20 weeks appointments soon.

I haven’t even had my appointment through yet. I’m 13+6 and was hoping to get my letter this week. Haven’t had my screening results either but have now managed to book my 16 week appointment which is face to face so will hopefully involve hearing the heartbeat as I haven’t yet at 2 scans.

Katy4321 · 19/05/2021 11:23

Sorry for those who have had bad experiences at scans. @pineapple2021 hope it goes better for you next time.

My twenty week scan is over 5 weeks away and feels ages away. I see a consultant for the first time next week - does anyone know if they will likely do a scan or listen for a HB?

I had the 1st dose of pfizer vaccine yesterday, which I'm really pleased about. Will make me feel more relaxed seeing more people and hanging out in busy medical waiting rooms. I felt pretty much fine after, just a bit of a sore arm and a mild headache, which I have been getting quite often anyway. Took half a dose of paracetamol just incase I was beginning to get a temperature.

Katy4321 · 19/05/2021 11:26

Welcome @vintique. Glad your scan went well - we are very similar age, but this is my first time. Must be hard not telling your DD, but hopefully you can soon.

Vintique · 19/05/2021 12:09

Hi @Katy4321 and thank you! Great to meet someone in a similar boat! I had the first shot of vaccine a few days ago too. I had to go to 3 different centres as the first two only had AZ. Finally got moderna after some rather surprised reactions to a pregnant 45 yr old... I think I’ve been lucky with medical staff so far though, sonographer was kind and midwife has been very reassuring about my age (and weight, ahem). I have to go to pre term birth clinic at the hospital as well as consultant because dd was born early, m/w said this was more of a concern for them than my age. I hope your appointment goes well. Would be interested to know what they do too, if you get a chance to update us - sorry I don’t know answer to your qs

krj2688 · 19/05/2021 13:30

Hi everyone.

Hope you don't mind me joining!

I'm 15+3 weeks due 7/11. Unknown sex! Baby no3.

I had 3 miscarriages last year so was quite relieved that this little one is ok!

krj2688 · 19/05/2021 13:32

Just realised there is a list, can I be added please Smile

Quick question, does anyone happen to know if at your 16wk midwife appointment they usually happen to listen for the heartbeat?

I've had an early scan and dating scan and found the anxiety I had leading up to these was helped after knowing there was a hb but it's not until the end of June for my 20wk scan and I can feel my anxiety ramping up slowly - basically it's that horrible feeling of not knowing everything is ok 'in there'.

In my head it would be really reassuring just to hear it. At our early scan we had twins and then at the dating scan there was only one hb and I just have this nagging feeling of 'well you had no idea then something had gone wrong so who's to say....'. Irrational but I guess that's the joys of hormones and pregnancy 🙄

mrssunshinexxx · 19/05/2021 14:22

Anyone else having a planned section on here ?

Randomness12 · 19/05/2021 16:08

@mrssunshinexxx I am having a planned section at 38-39 weeks. I had an EMCS with my first due to some issues during labour with my placenta and I was told at the time they wouldn’t let me labour naturally so totally expected and I’m fine with it.

Aisforharlot · 19/05/2021 18:30

I believe they do @Crazybabylady14

mrssunshinexxx · 19/05/2021 20:02

@Randomness12 planned here after emc I hope the recovery is better this time

Randomness12 · 19/05/2021 20:07

How did you find it last time @mrssunshinexxx? I had to have a GA after the spinal failed but I didn’t really have any complications thankfully. I did develop thrush in my nipples which then infected my wound so I had to take steroids which ended breastfeeding for me. I struggled more with that than the section.

HappyMrsR · 19/05/2021 21:32

@4Minions2CallMyOwn my other children are 20, 13, 9 & 7.
So far this pregnancy has been so different to my others. Are you showing yet? I have a bump n people are ofen asking me if it's twins or am I further along which the answer to both is obviously no it's just seem to come from nowhere.

mrssunshinexxx · 20/05/2021 13:35

That sounds really tough @Randomness12 I'm sorry that happened and wish you a happier BF journey this time if you choose it. I found recovery shit but I had lost my mum 6 weeks before so I was just at rock bottom in general I had 2 infections on my wound it took about 4 months to all bind together. I'm going to really try take it easier this time well as easy as you can with a newborn and a 15 month old !

mrssunshinexxx · 20/05/2021 13:36

@Randomness12 pressed send too soon. I was so so numb I couldn't lift my hands for about 90 minds afterwards I was literally numb upto my neck as my epidural hadn't worked properly in labour I was still in agony so I was really paranoid I was going to feel them cutting me so I think they gave me loads

Randomness12 · 20/05/2021 16:56

Oh no @mrssunshinexxx that doesn’t sound great! Did something go wrong for that to happen as I didn’t think it was supposed to go up your back but only below the injection site?

I’m not surprised you were at rock bottom with your mum passing so suddenly and then all that. I’m sorry for your loss.

Yes I’m keen to try breastfeeding again and will make a point of making sure everyone knows that just because it is my second baby does not mean I know what I am doing and I need help! There already seems to be an assumption from the midwives that I’ll breastfeed again as I did first time - well yes but it didn’t work out very quickly so I need help with latch and positions etc as if I was a newbie!

I had my 16 week appointment yesterday. She said they aren't using the Doppler as there is no medical need to and it might make me worried if they couldn't hear anything but baby might be fine. Sorry this probably isn't what you wanted to here but didn't want to read and run x
Aisforharlot · 20/05/2021 20:34

Damn. they used the Doppler on ds 7 years ago, hoping it's still the same in my area.

ELMcg · 20/05/2021 21:03

Evening ladies, I feel I have waited so long to post with a due date of 30/11, but finally had my 12 week scan today! All was well and baby was measuring to the day so no change in due date for me. Such a relief 5 months after a miscarriage!

I have a side issue in that my mum had a very rare disorder that there is a small chance could be passed to me that would class me so high risk it's unbelievable! I'm not too concerned by it but the consultant was super worried and wanting to speak to genetics etc. I think she was thinking I'd be too high risk to carry a baby if I had it. I'm pretty relaxed as I'm 31 and have had no symptoms in my life and I was never tested for it as they thought the chances were so low. So fingers crossed its much ado about nothing.

mrssunshinexxx · 20/05/2021 22:09

@Randomness12 yes defo get plenty of help in hospital I think I got lucky with bf as I'm still going strong now and looks like I'll be tandem feeding both of them.
Thank you it's really hard to live without her but I have my children to keep going for but I miss her so much.
I'm not sure to be honest I think becagse in natural labour I had an epidural and it really didn't work so I was really paranoid about being able to feel the section so I think they just gave me so much spinal block I was so so numb I remember them doin the checks up your side with the freezing cold bottle thing and I couldn't feel it til it got to my neck ! X

AlackAlasAlackaday · 20/05/2021 22:17

Lovely news elm, that's great.

I BF'd DD but good god it hurt. I had a lactation specialist visit at home to check latch, tried all sorts... I suspect in hindsight that half the time she'd fallen asleep and was just using me as a dummy, which exacerbated the pain/discomfort, so that's something we'll watch for at least, but with twins I'm planning to combination feed from the get go, maybe with a good pump too. Plus I liked DH being able to do the 10pm or so feed from when DD was about a week old - I'd go to bed at 8pm and sleep until 2am or so when it was time for the next feed, then sleep a bit more until 6am. Though I'm tired just writing that now Grin.

@AlackAlasAlackaday that’s a great idea for the 10pm feed and sleeping ready for the night feeds! Might pinch that one ☺️

Kimblebee19 · 21/05/2021 20:47

@jorisbonsonstoupe thinking of you today, hope it went well and that you are feeling ok, whatever the outcome.

@ELMcg glad your scan went well. The possible genetic issue sounds scary, are they going to test you to find out for sure? When will you know?

@pineapple2021 and @happygolucky20 I cant believe your scan experiences! Thats truly awful and i'd be complaining too. I do wonder why such people go into these roles, it might just be another day at the office for them, but they should really realise that for the parents to be in the room its an extremely special and anxious time that can be the culmination of years of hopes and dreams and even losses. My sonographer was actually really amazing this time, said congratulations to reassure us seconds into the scan after she saw the baby/heartbeat and so nice throughout, might write in some positive feedback after hearing these stories!

@vixey how are you getting on now? Hope the anxiety has subsided, awful of the midwife to worry you like that, doesn't sound like there was any real basis for it.

vixey · 21/05/2021 21:18

@kimblebee19
yeah, managed to get an appointment with my usual midwife, who was able to listen to babys heartbeat and everything seems fine. she agrees that there was really no need and if the other midwife was so concerned she could have asked my own midwife to contact me. she really didn't need to worry me when she wasn't sure. just felt a bit rubbish that she was worried but didn't want to do anything. but feel so much better for knowing everything is OK. xxx

jorisbonsonstoupe · 21/05/2021 21:32

@Kimblebee19 thank you...

I had the amnio- it was strange and unpleasant but not painful. I was happy to see baby again.

We get the results on Monday so will try to keep busy over the weekend
