Hi everyone,

Im currently pregnant 10wk today. I was losing weight before I found out I was pregnant and it was a surprise BFP as drs were convinced I had PCOS.

Really anxious as my BMI is still over 50! So wanted to start this thread to see if theres anyone else in a similar situation? Lets ride the waves together ladies Grin

@ElaineC82 My BMI was 36 at booking with my twins last pregnancy, I had to have elcs as they were breech. I did have heavy blood loss but that was because of having 2 large placenta sites not my weight. I was discharged within 36 hours of arriving at hospital and recovered well. My BMI was similar with our 2nd & 3rd, had good vb's with them, no assistance needed. All of those were big babies but GTT was within normal range in each pregnancy.
I'm hoping to have a vbac this time but prepared to have cs if I have to.

ElaineC82 · 19/03/2021 22:27

@TheBigGreenDinosaur @Chelyanne thanks so much - it’s great to hear both of your experiences x

Fartymcfart · 25/03/2021 11:48

How are everyone's bumps coming along, I've definitely started to look more rounded but still managing to fit in all my normal clothes and have lost half a stone because I feel so bloated. I'm 22+2wks and its going so slowly

Chelyanne · 25/03/2021 12:14

Still feel I just look like I've put on a bit of timber rather than pregnant atm.
I did get my maternity leggings in a size larger than my normal as I have big babies so big bumps and this will allow lots of growing room. Hazard is they offer no support to my saggy mum tum at the bottom, lots of excess skin after huge twins so it's a jiggler lol. I always get bump emerge high up then spread downward as baby gets bigger, abs are stronger under navel than above and I felt the ligaments above pop with a sharp pain at 15wk (now 19+2). I had a substantial bump by this point last time but then that's because it was a double. Normal clothes became uncomfortable ages ago but I've lost a couple of kilo recently as getting out more with kids back at school. Need to shift some fat though as my osteoarthritis has become much worse in my knees because of hormones, manageable atm but would rather it didn't worsen. Still managing my powerlifting too but slowly dropping a bit more weight from my sets, a bit of a downer but needs must.

PurpleFlower1983 · 25/03/2021 12:34

I’m 22 weeks tomorrow and have lost 12lbs now. My bump is quite rounded but my fat has moved up a level so I look like I’ve got a got a double bump! HmmGrin

pixiedust21 · 25/03/2021 16:31

I got the date for my first scan appointment - next Saturday 3rd, eeek!! Feels quite real/exciting/scary Grin

Despite only being able to stomach carbs I don't seem to have gained any weight so far at least which is good. BMI of 38 at booking in, no massive concerns mentioned yet, blood pressure fine etc.

But nervous now again when it comes to the scan. I know they'll have obviously scanned bigger women than me. Just irrationally nervous that they won't be able to see the baby under all my tummy Hmm and yes I know that's silly. Just generally nervous about it not being a good experience.

But so excited (though still feel quite surreal) about seeing the little bean and being able to tell people afterwards, hoping everything is okay in there Smile

TheBigGreenDinosaur · 25/03/2021 16:49

@pixiedust21 ahhh I remember being concerned about this in with my first, don’t worry they will be able to see baby! I had my dating scan yesterday and it wasn’t mentioned, neither was it mentioned with my first, they just put a discreet note on my maternity notes about it.

Try not to worry too much and look forward to your scan! Smile

pixiedust21 · 25/03/2021 16:58

@TheBigGreenDinosaur yes I'm trying to just look forward to it, I do think I forget that medical staff won't drop dead with shock at the sight of me and they are of course very used to treating women of all sizes!

I think there's just always something to worry about prior to the first scan and my mind has gone to this.

Fingers crossed all is well, and I'll be back with a happy photo of little bean!

KHR1 · 25/03/2021 21:20

I feel like my bump is starting to show a bit now (17+1) but it's popped quite high up rather than at the bottom (it's a bit more wobbly down there Blush) .

Has anyone with a bmi over 40 still not been contacted about the covid vaccine (even if you decided to wait until after pregnancy)?

PineappleSun · 25/03/2021 21:25

Ladies who've had your 12 week scan and opted for the screenings, do they tell you anything on the day e.g. the NT result or do you have to wait for all the results?

KHR1 · 25/03/2021 21:49

@PineappleSun the sonograoher told us the measurement behind the neck was normal during the scan but that was all. The letter with results only took about a week to arrive though.

Chelyanne · 25/03/2021 21:59

@PineappleSun the neck measurement is included on the printed report you get at the scan. They send bloods off and you get a letter in the post with your risk ratios.

VNttc · 26/03/2021 08:24

Hello lovely ladies, when did you stop taking the 5mg folic acid? It says on my packet to stop at 13 weeks and I'm now 16 +5 so it should be okay to stop now?

I'm only taking vitamin d and omegas otherwise because the pregnacare made me feel nauseous

lilymty · 26/03/2021 15:17

My midwife said to continue to take folic acid & my vitamins for the whole of the pregnancy.

PineappleSun · 26/03/2021 17:22

@KHR1 @Chelyanne thank you! Just got back, all was well Smile
@VNttc I wondered that as well, I was going to wait for my last pack to run out and then stop it, the nural tube will definitely be formed now so I don't see the benefit in carrying on with it?

KHR1 · 26/03/2021 18:38

@VNttc my midwife said I could stop at 12 weeks so I stopped just after that when my prescription ran out. When I asked her about continuing normal pregnancy vitamins she said all that was really needed was the vitamin d.

Glad it went well @PineappleSun

Chelyanne · 26/03/2021 19:09

@VNttc I was given folic acid by my consultant at 16+6wk, they want me to have it through the whole pregnancy. Had been taking my multivitamin and omega 3 daily before and still am.

pixiedust21 · 27/03/2021 12:03

So as well as my scan appointment for next Saturday I now have an appointment to see the consultant on 13th April when I will be 14 weeks.

I knew I'd have this as the midwife discussed it and I'm sure it'll be fine but now the appointment is here I feel a bit crap about it again.

I've actually lost some weight since my booking in appointment (exercise but also being off most foods!) and I know it will just be a clinical and professional appointment but still feel a bit pants. Just don't want them to treat me like crap lol.

I actually have a friend who is a consultant in obs and gynae and does these appointments all the time so I shouldn't be worried/nervous but still feel a bit weird.

Any reassuring tales of consultant appointments appreciated !!

FF821 · 27/03/2021 13:29

@pixiedust21 - hi, just want to say I've now had three consultant appointments this pregnancy ( now 25 weeks) ( Bmi 37 on booking ) I've not been weighed again since, each time it's been a different consultant and not once have they made me feel crap because of my weight, in fact it's not been the focus of any of the appointments- the only things they said about it were " we will start aspirin 150mg due to increased BMi" and asked did I want referral to healthy eating clinic ( which I politely declined ) mentioned that as standard they'll do a GTT at 28 weeks, at my most recent appointment the only negative thing about it was the increased risk of wound infection because I carry quite a bit of my excess weight on my stomach ( in case of c section ) - honestly it's all been very matter of fact and nothing patronising or derogatory - hope this helps x

Alittlexmasmagic · 27/03/2021 13:53

Hi everyone,
has anyone had any issues with stress with their pregnancy?
I've had far more stressful episodes in my life (at heavier BMIs too) and I've never felt like I did recently with palpitations and a tight feeling in my chest that went on for days. It's eased off now (ecg all clear too) but was quite worrying at the time.
I'm more worried that I don't know what's changed apart from my age, weight & thyroid function.x

pixiedust21 · 29/03/2021 15:53

@FF821 ah thank you that does help ease my mind. I'm not sure why I'm suddenly so worried as i know it is unlikely they will be horrible and will just be focused on the best care for me. But good to hear from someone who's had appointments so thanks again x

Chelyanne · 29/03/2021 16:06

@pixiedust21 I echo what @FF821 has said. They are tactful and will only mention your weight if there is a good reason for it.
I've had 3 previous pregnancies all with a higher BMI than they'd like, my weight was not referenced as a big issue and I had 2 natural and 1 cesarean under consultant led care. I have had sonographers reference my weight on scan reports when they've not had an easy time getting baby to play ball, more awkward babies than anything though (all had to have 2 anomaly scans) was the same with the eldest when my BMI was a lot lower. I was only weighed again in my twin pregnancy because they were breech and I had an elective cesarean, I never looked at the scales lol (I was only 7lb heavier after birth than pre-pregnancy tho).

pixiedust21 · 29/03/2021 16:30

@Chelyanne that is reassuring again, thank you. My midwife wasn't overly concerned at the booking in appointment, and I've actually lost ten pounds since becoming pregnant due to eating better but also being off food lol.

So I do hope to minimise the weight gain too. X

KHR1 · 04/04/2021 11:46

Is anyone else on aspirin bruising more easily than normal? I'm quite clumsy but seem to be getting huge bruises for small bumps e.g. Hitting my leg on the bit of the baby gate that sticks out. I'm absolutely covered

lilymty · 04/04/2021 12:09

@KHR1 Me. I also take longer to heal of I cut myself.
