Hi I'm 7.2 weeks pregnant with #2 and since yesterday I have been having small amounts of brown discharge please tell me this is normal? I lost our first baby at around 8/9 weeks and don't remember having anything like this with our DS who is 5 years old. I am preying everything is fine

Hi. I've had this with all of my pregnancies.
I've had it checked a couple of times and every time they've said between 5 and 7ish weeks, brown discharge is normal and it's leftover implantation bleeding along with the foetus burying deeper.

If you're worried, call for advice though

Chelyanne · 20/02/2021 18:31

Brown discharge is usually not a big concern, keep an eye on it. If it doesn't stop after a few days or it changes to red then ring the GP and have them refer you to EPAU.

Starfish25 · 20/02/2021 18:49

Thank you both very much for a reply. I have been so worried expecting to see blood or to start getting pains. Fingers crossed it is just left over implantation bleeding

I’m currently 6+2 and this is my third pregnancy after one mc at 9 weeks and another at 4 weeks.

For me my first mc started as brown spotting for about a week before turning red and then miscarrying about 4 days later.

With this pregnancy I said to myself I will call epu for a scan even if I just get brown blood, and I would exaggerate if need be to get that scan.

It might be nothing and bleeding is common, but I think if you haven’t had it up to now it’s unlikely to be implantation bleeding as that would happen around 3-4 weeks when your period would’ve been.

Hopefully it’s nothing but I think you should get it checked xxx

Hi, I'm 7+3 and i've been having this on and off since before my period was even due with mild cramps too. Two days ago it increased such that I have to wear an actual pad and I also had one bright red splodge of blood. I spoke to EPAU and they got me in for a scan the next morning which was yesterday and they said everything looks fine and dated me. They said the bleeding is probably due to implantation. This is my second and I had no bleeding with my first at all so it freaked me out but the scan was reassuring. It is a pain having to wear my Modibodis whilst pregnant though!!

Starfish25 · 20/02/2021 19:35

@Cafeaulait27 thank you for a reply. Sorry about your losses if this continues to happen then I will call up and see if I can get a scan xx

@MeadowHay I am glad everything went well at your scan. At the moment all I'm having is brown discharge with mild cramps if I'm still the same monday I will ring up for an appointment scan as I dont have my appointment with the Mv for another 2 weeks xx

@Starfish25 I put a very similar post up a few days ago as I had brown discharge on wiping for a day or so. I'm 8+2 and had a scan yesterday which showed everything was healthy and progressing as planned. Call EPU if concerned but I was told I unless it turns into bright red blood then it shouldn't be anything to worry about. Mine's now stopped. Hopefully it is nothing

SS123456 · 20/02/2021 19:57

@Starfish25 I had this at weeks 5, 8 and 10 (brown/pink on the tissue after using the toilet). I am currently 13+2 and all was well at my 12 week scan. I freaked myself out each time but if you can (easier said than done I know!) try not to stress. If things don't progress beyond some brown/pink the odds are all is ok 😊. Could you maybe have a private early scan to put your mind at ease?

Starfish25 · 20/02/2021 20:00

@LunaDreams thank you that is very reassuring, I am glad everything went well at your scan. Fingers crossed this is all I have xx

I’m currently going through this and trying to distract myself. I’m 7+2 days and have been having brown spotting. It started at about 4.5 weeks and had it on an and off since then. Had some today after a gap of a few days.
I also have a toddler and did not get any brown discharge with him. I also had terrible nausea plus vomiting with him which had started by this time and so far it’s just been mild to negligible nausea which is adding to the worry.

birdbybird · 20/02/2021 20:12

I should add that today it was just one patch of brown discharge in the afternoon after not having it for a few days.

HopingForABetterYear · 20/02/2021 20:29

Yep I had this with my last pregnancy. Brown, then pinkish red, between the weeks of 9-14, I even had a scan, all was fine though. Xx

The blood from implantation can come anytime up to 8 weeks. Which is what it's always been for me as confirmed by doctors every time.

If you're worried, call the EPU or even 111.

Please don't worry about symptoms too much though as they don't mean anything

Pootle40 · 20/02/2021 20:54

Hi

I had with both of mine from say week 5 right through to week 11. All was fine. Hope all ok for you.

Starfish25 · 21/02/2021 03:29

@birdbybird I wouldn't worry about the symptoms too much. I have a friend who's on her 3rd pregnancy and she has said for her the symptoms have been different each time. Hope everything goes well xx

Thanks @SnooperTrooper12345 and @Starfish25

As it’s a Sunday, my local medical practice is closed and I’m waiting till tomorrow to call the GP.

The EPU’s website at the local hospital states you can’t self-refer unless you’ve had 3 miscarriages. I tried to call anyway but there was no answer. Will try again when my toddler wakes up.

I tried the 111 and they said the lines were very busy and suggested I check “111 online”, which I did and entered my symptoms and the recommendation was to call the GP today or tomorrow.

The other option is to go to A&E today.

I have the booking in appointment with mid-wife on Wednesday and I could ask her to refer me but don’t feel I can wait that long.

A+E will more than likely turn you away if you go for brown spotting. As quite often they will turn you away with heavy bleeding too. Your GP tomorrow is probably the only option
Starfish25 · 21/02/2021 15:26

@birdbybird if you do ring your gp will you let me know how you get on please? I will be thinking of you xx

I had brown discharge with both pregnancies and everything was absolutely fine but I was as worried as you are. Get checked out if you're worried x

birdbybird · 21/02/2021 16:33

@Starfish25 I’ll let you know what the GP says. Are you still getting brown discharge today? I just went for a walk....have no idea whether I need to rest or what.

Starfish25 · 21/02/2021 17:18

@yummyscummymummy01 thank you that is great to know. It's been that long since my first pregnancy it's like being a newbie all over again I just cant remember anything xx
