Hi I'm 7.2 weeks pregnant with #2 and since yesterday I have been having small amounts of brown discharge please tell me this is normal? I lost our first baby at around 8/9 weeks and don't remember having anything like this with our DS who is 5 years old. I am preying everything is fine

@birdbybird thank you, I'm hoping the gp has reassuring news. Yeah I am still getting it today, i didn't first thing this morning though but the next time I went the toilet it was there. I cant stop going the toilet to check, think I'm going to drive my self insane xx

@Starfish25 I'm a few weeks earlier than you (only just found out!) but going through the same with brown discharge. I'm going to ring my doctors tomorrow and see if I can request blood tests to check my HCG (not sure if they will or not) Hopefully they are helpful!

Starfish25 · 22/02/2021 08:04

@els10 hopefully yours is implantation too. Fingers crossed they are helpful will you let me know how you get on please xx

@birdbybird how are you? Any more brown discharge? Xx

It honestly could go either way. I have experienced brown discharge that led to a healthy pregnancy and brown discharge that led to MC. I’ve also had a pregnancy with no blood whatsoever and completely text book 12 weeks to find no heart beat at the scan. So these early stages are just wading through the fog unfortunately.

birdbybird · 22/02/2021 08:42

@Starfish25 yes still getting a few specks of brown discharge. Am waiting till 9am to ring when the GP opens.

Starfish25 · 22/02/2021 10:54

@justanotherneighinparadise with your miscarriage and the brown discharge when did you start to bleed if you don't mind me asking xx

I had brown discharge around 7 weeks. It lasted over a week on and off and sometimes it was quite dark. I couldn't stop checking - every time it was 'normal' discharge for a period of time, the brown would come back darker than before. I'm much further on in pregnancy now and everything is fine but I remember the feelings of dread and panic every time I saw it. I booked myself in for an early scan at 8 weeks just for reassurance so I didn't go completely mad and I saw the heartbeat etc which calmed me down. My first pregnancy I remember getting some pink when I wiped but nothing like this time - all was fine then too.

birdbybird · 22/02/2021 13:15

@Starfish25 my appointment with the GP will be later this afternoon. How are you feeling?
Work keeps me distracted on the weekdays. It’s the weekends that I tend to worry more. Am also wondering whether it’s better not to know and let either nature or the 12 week scan take its course.
My 12 week scan is over a month away :(

birdbybird · 22/02/2021 13:17

That’s reassuring @Covidweddingday .

How many weeks along are you?

justanotherneighinparadise · 22/02/2021 13:21
@justanotherneighinparadise with your miscarriage and the brown discharge when did you start to bleed if you don't mind me asking xx
I’ve had four losses but the one that had the brown discharge really started from the BFP and would disappear then come back, disappear, come back. Eventually I lost lots of mucus and then started bleeding like a period. That lasted two weeks but we knew it was over once the period bleeding started.

If it stays as brown spotting it’s probably implantation.

birdbybird · 22/02/2021 13:26

@justanotherneighinparadise don’t mean to make you relive your loss but at how many weeks did the brown discharge hange to period like bleeding?

birdbybird · 22/02/2021 13:26

*change (not hange)

That would have been six weeks.

Starfish25 · 22/02/2021 15:56

@birdbybird I've only had very small amount of discharge up to now. Have you managed to speak to your gp this afternoon or are you still waiting? I've got my telephone appointment with my mv on the 10th march so I'm just going to speak to her about it then if anything does happen an see what she thinks xx

@Covidweddingday that is reassuring, I am driving my self mad going to toilet all the time to check. I haven't even told my boyfriend about this I dont want to worry him as he's got stuff going on with his mum so I dont want to add more stress to him Sad I am guessing this is the time I would of had my period I honestly can't remember as my periods dates changed each month xx

@Starfish25 I’m going to get a call from the GP between now and 6pm and my first midwife appointment is on Wednesday. I feel relaxed until I see more brown mucus and then become worried.
I had a chemical the month before but with that I started spotting by the time I did the test at 4+1 and it had progressed to red bleeding by about 5 weeks.
This one has definitely stuck around longer.
Did your previous loss at 8/9 weeks come about slowly or was it very quick?

Starfish25 · 22/02/2021 17:22

@birdbybird from what I can remember (was over 5 and half years ago) I started to get really strong pains in the centre of my stomach at first (for 2 days if I'm correct) I can handle pain very well but this crippled me. I had no discharge or anything then I started to bleed heavy so it was pretty quick but 3 months later I was bless with our healthy son although I did have a bleed with him around the same time but everything was fine xx

birdbybird · 22/02/2021 17:31

@Starfish25 the GP called me back and said she wasn’t concerned and she was honest when I asked if the reason it wasn’t concerning was because it wasn’t life- threatening. She said “frankly yes”.
She said no pain was a good sign but any spotting should be checked out.
My normal hospital doesn’t do ultrasounds with a self-referral but another nearby EPU does. so I’m weighing up whether to go there tomorrow morning or wait for the midwife appointment on Wednesday and decide then.

Starfish25 · 22/02/2021 17:50

@birdbybird thank you for letting me know how you got on. Do you think you can wait till Wednesday? Are you cramping or anything xx

OP posts:
birdbybird · 22/02/2021 18:22

@Starfish25 I'm not cramping at all. Are you? I’m feeling so torn. If it’s going to result in a miscarriage then what’s the point of scanning before the 12 week scan. What’s also worrying me is the lack of strong symptoms. Do you have any symptoms? Eg nausea, tiredness? My only strong symptom is the wasteland of my trousers feel tight.

birdbybird · 22/02/2021 18:22

*waistband

Starfish25 · 22/02/2021 18:35

@birdbybird yeah I've been cramping on and off since I found out I was pregnant just assuming everything is stretching but it doesn't stop me googling everything! I've had constant sore nipples. My worry is my nausea and morning sickness hasn't happened today. Think with my tiredness is down to this lockdown, I only work part time xx

OP posts:
birdbybird · 23/02/2021 19:13

I went for an early scan today at the EPU.
There was a heartbeat and the diagnosis is a “viable intrauterine pregnancy”. However I’m measuring a week later than the 7w5d since my last period. So this again has me worried!

Starfish25 · 24/02/2021 03:56

@birdbybird that is good that they heard a heartbeat but what is viable intrauterine pregnancy? I've not heard that sorry xx
