Hi! Has anyone thought about doing NCT? Or thinking about it? When do you have to sign up?

My brain is so mushy at the moment. I'm forgetting everything and feeling super unorganised. It's so unlike me!

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 08/03/2021 09:17

@PurpleCurtain @Luckyelephant1 I’ve put on 8lb in total over the course of being pregnant - not sure if that is about right or not? The midwife hasn’t weighed me once so assuming it doesn’t much matter either way?

@MilkshakeandChips5 we’ve signed up to the bump and baby club antenatal classes which start in April and are going to be face to face - I’m actually really looking good forward to it - just to get ready and go out somewhere hahaha!

PurpleCurtain · 08/03/2021 10:17

@TiredAlreadyOhDear this morning I'm 5kg heavier than I was at my booking in appointment (11lbs). I think my midwife said she'll ask me to weigh myself as part of my next appt.

On antenatal classes...I didnt know they were a thing until a few weeks ago, and now I'm concerned I've missed the boat. I can't seem to find any that aren't fully booked for my due date!

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 08/03/2021 12:03

@PurpleCurtain I wouldn’t worry about the classes too much, we only booked them because we thought it would be nice to meet other people who were due around the same time as us - and also just for something to do as COVID restrictions start to ease....Loads of people I know never did the classes and haven’t had any issues.

notalwaysalondoner · 08/03/2021 18:31

@TiredAlreadyOhDear that's interesting they're definitely going to be face-to-face, I signed up to NCT but they haven't indicated yet when they'll be switching back to face-to-face - I actually emailed my co-ordinator about it saying I'd much prefer face-to-face and when our classes start (mid May) you'll be able to go to pubs, shops and restaurants so it would be frustrating if the classes are on zoom. Her reply was a bit dismissive - she said 9 pregnant women in a room isn't the same, but actually ours is in a church hall so you could be miles apart, and we're clearly all going to meet up at the pub or somewhere anyway afterwards so I hope they switch back soon!

@MilkshakeandChips5 I booked my NCT a month or so ago as I don't know anyone in my area (just moved) - as you can tell, I just really hope they move them back in person rather than on zoom! You just book via the enquiry form on their website. My mum is still friends with her NCT group so I hope I get lucky with my group!

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 08/03/2021 19:24

@notalwaysalondoner yeah they’re planned to be running face to face at the moment - I mean it could maybe change but the class the month before is showing as virtual but ours is still planned to be face to face so fingers crossed it doesn’t change.

Like you say the restrictions will all be easing by this point so it make sense to do them face to face where possible.

How lovely your mum is still friends with people from her group! I hope we get a good group too :)

PurpleCurtain · 08/03/2021 19:53

@TiredAlreadyOhDear my main concern is missing out on the opportunity to meet people tbh - I also don't know many people locally!

Do people have other suggestions for good groups/ companies that I could look into other than NCT or bump and baby?

notalwaysalondoner · 09/03/2021 11:30

I'm telling my work today - I've left it quite late (20 weeks) because I had two previous miscarriages and thought I might as well wait for my second scan, then I had a career opportunity come up I wanted to get confirmed in writing first before I told them. It makes it feel a lot more real - now everyone will know, and as my work is project-based there will start to be quite a lot of conversations about when I'll go on leave etc. Exciting!

PeanutButterFalcon · 09/03/2021 13:34

@notalwaysalondoner hope telling work goes well.

I feel so full at the moment, like after an operation when you’re still full of the air they pump your stomach up with. I’m guessing I am about to pop out as it’s so uncomfortable.

I've got my anomaly scan tomorrow morning. I'm getting so worried. Luckily DH can come with me as my mum has agreed to watch DS so that'll hopefully keep me a little calm while I'm waiting.

Hope everyone else is doing well and getting good scan news.

notalwaysalondoner · 10/03/2021 16:03

@PeanutButterFalcon me too! It's not all the time, but at least 50% of the day I feel like I'm 'pushing out' my stomach, it's not quite the same feeling as bloating (where I normally get pain too) but very similar. And it's worse after I eat. I still have barely any bump, am quite looking forward to getting a proper one!

@Warrickdaviesasplates I was nervous too, especially as I'd had a missed miscarriage at an early private scan last year. I looked up all of the conditions they screen for which helped a bit to know what they're looking for and how rare they are (but don't do it if it will scare you!). Then on the actual day the sonographer was great at explaining exactly what she was doing. Can you feel the baby move yet? It's very reassuring once you can.

Warrickdaviesasplates · 10/03/2021 16:14

@notalwaysalondoner I think I've felt some movements, but it's so subtle I don't want to get my hopes up that's it's definitely movements and not just my muscles twitching or something.

I have also had a missed miscarriage before so I think that is what's making me so nervous.

I'm kind of glad I'm not the only person who gets nervous about these things though.

PeanutButterFalcon · 10/03/2021 19:20

@notalwaysalondoner it might be on its way. I’ve definitely got a bump and one that people are noticing. After going about a week feeling like it I don’t feel so bad now.

@Warrickdaviesasplates hope your scan goes well. I was nervous for mine but they were very reassuring.

Anyone got an idea what this could be? Woke up with it the other day randomly Hmm

Fartymcfart · 10/03/2021 20:18

I'm also suffering from the bloat? If I even drink or eat anything and especially when I'm walking, feel like I could pop.

I've got my scan Friday, anxious! Just want everything to be well.

@pinkgin8 allergic reaction? Have you changed your washing powder or anything?

pinkgin8 · 10/03/2021 21:42

@Fartymcfart I haven't. It just randomly appeared. If it doesn't go soon I will obviously get checked but wasn't sure if it can be pregnancy related x

Warrickdaviesasplates · 10/03/2021 21:47

@pinkgin8 apparently pregnancy can make your skin more sensitive. Maybe you're getting an irritation from something you've used before? Shower gel, moisturiser or your usual washing powder?

@Fartymcfart good luck for Friday!

I've got quite an obvious bump now so I'm hoping that's a good sign as something must be growing in there at least!

Warrickdaviesasplates · 11/03/2021 09:28

In the hospital waiting for my 20 week scan. I drank two bottles of Lucozade in the car to have a nice full bladder for the scan.

Definitely over did it, if they don't call me in soon I think I'll explode. Haha.

TiredAlreadyOhDear · 11/03/2021 09:55

Good luck @Warrickdaviesasplates let us know how it goes :)

Alicespring · 11/03/2021 10:16

Can I join 🙂 I'm due 22nd July, and this is my first.
Private scan told me it was a girl! Had my anomaly scan on Tuesday but couldn't get all the checks done and baby just DID NOT want to move 😂 couldn't confirm if it was a girl as she wouldn't move her legs. Hoping they've not got it wrong or I will have a lot of pink stuff to return 🙈 having to go back on Tuesday again to see if they can get rest of checks done.
How lovely is it to feel wee flutters/kicks 😍

MochaTea · 11/03/2021 10:43

Hi everyone, just wanted to share and I think @Alicespring might laugh.

I had my 20 scan this week and up until that day the doctors were telling me I was having boys, they would never give 100% but said "yeah, boys, I definitely saw something, they are boys" and then comes Monday and the doctor (one who already said boys) comes with "100% girls!!!!"
Shock

I was so shocked, as it's twins I have soooo many scans at two different places, and everyone was saying boys.

I always wanted boys so was quite disappointed, my blood pressure got really high and they asked me to monitor at home, but now I am getting low readings so I am sure it was just due to the sudden news.

I haven't bought a lot of stuff and can keep the outfits if I put a hair bow on them, but it sure made us laugh and we had to tell the whole family there was a mistake.
Now i am adjusting to the fact that I'll be having girls.

Alicespring · 11/03/2021 11:04

@MochaTea

Oh no 🙈 at least you can use majority of your outfits though! I've always wanted a wee girl so I'm hopeful they are right 🤞😂

Mrslouu · 11/03/2021 11:34

My scan is delayed until next week as now self isolating after an exposure Hmm but looking forward to the scan. Been told we are having a boy so will wait and see.

Warrickdaviesasplates · 11/03/2021 12:13

Scan went well today. It took ages though as baby wouldn't cooperate and was in such an awkward position so I had to go and empty my bladder, then come back, go for a walk, come back. In the end they got the measurements they were after and said it's all fine.

I have to go back at 32 weeks as they said I have a low lying placenta so are hoping it moves.

We stuck to our decision not to find out the sex. Dh has a feeling it's a girl, I have feeling it's a boy.
