Hi,

I was part of another thread and for some reason it got closed. I found it so helpful to be able to talk to other pregnant women, so I thought I would start a new thread where anyone pregnant is welcome!

I'm currently 10wks & my 12 wk scan is on the 22nd. I'm both excited & scared as having had a mc last year I'm worried everything will be ok.

How are you getting on with your pregnancy? Have you, like me, suffered badly with feeling/being sick?!

@2021mumma Congratulations!! And hope the scan goes well tomorrow! :)

Wow @Tamalama I salute you!!
@Taybz I ended up having two private scans (10+ and 13+ weeks) but that's just because it was part of the package really. I am tempted to have one post 20 weeks just because i think it would feel so long between then and meeting the baby in person!!

Tallybeebloom · 15/02/2021 22:23

I'm 8+4 with my first. Getting pretty bad sickness, usually gets worse as the day goes on but have been being sick most of the day today. Not quite to the extent that I'm worrying yet as I can keep some food down at times but it still feels pretty horrible. Feeling pretty down about it just now but I know it just comes with the territory. DP works away and is back fortnightly at the moment, he was back this weekend for 4 days and usually we'd be doing loads together but I just didn't have the energy and any time we were out I'd be either looking for a quiet spot or needing to get home to be sick. Felt bad when our time together is limited and it was basically just him holding my hair back or cooking me lovely dinners which I'd then throw up.

I had a scan and was dated at 7+1 and got to see the heartbeat, it was reassuring but I'm still constantly worrying about anything happening.

GWhiteley · 15/02/2021 22:39

@ftmum94 when you had your 12 week scan did you have the combined one where they also test for Down's syndrome at the same time?

Currently pregnant with my first! Due in May which seems to be coming around rather fast 😂 had a terrible time with nausea and sickness too in my first trimester, plus horrific fatigue. Second trimester has been great in comparison (barely any nausea and lots of energy) aside from a few random sudden vomit sessions 😅 also had a couple of times where I had terrible cramps which was scary but went in for checks and all was well. Just entered third trimester (28+1 now) and feeling soooo tired suddenly, hope it’s not going to be like this throughout! I’ve also got the nesting instinct kicking in like mad now. We found out the sex (boy) at our 20 week scan Smile

BeanCan · 15/02/2021 22:54

Also .. Really understand re the constant worries throughout, I’ve been so anxious about something going wrong the whole time. Guess it’s only natural especially with first baby - it’s hard to know what to expect

DenisetheMenace · 15/02/2021 22:55

Congratulations!
My “babies” were born a long time ago so can’t add much but I was horribly sick with both, for months, all hours of the day. Was told back then it was a positive sign.

Both strapping adults now, youngest had 18th last week.

ftmum94 · 15/02/2021 23:00

@GWhiteley yes! or they at measured the space behind the neck and said that was normal and then I got bloods taken and a couple weeks later I got a letter that I had v low chances of Down’s syndrome (and I think they checked for Edwards and Patau’s too)

Taybz · 16/02/2021 01:46

Thanks for the advice ladies, I think I'm going to hold out after all and just try to distract myself for another 3 weeks. We've decided to have the 16wk scan as well so that'll be a few scans too many if we do another.

GWhiteley · 16/02/2021 07:41

@ftmum94 so did you wait until you'd had that result back before telling people or did you tell people after the scan? We're excited to tell people, and I've told my husband we can tell people after the scan, but maybe we should wait for the results?

So, has anyone decided if they're going to have an epidural? I've told my midwife I want all the drugs as I'm such a wuss with pain 😂 Also, thanks to constant nausea & feeling tired all the time (and possibly lockdown) I'm going through a stage of not being bothered to wash my hair. Sounds gross I know, but I just have no motivation. I also haven't shaved my legs in weeks, again zero motivation 🙈

OP posts:
Tamalama · 16/02/2021 10:29

@GWhiteley I had a c section with my DD because she was frank breech and I've already said I want one with this pregnancy. The likelihood of having another breech baby is always a possibility and with twins it's probably highly likely.

I know what you mean about the hair washing and leg shaving 😂

2021mumma · 16/02/2021 12:31

I had my harmony test this morning. Saw baby on scan it was moving away was very cute. Will get full results in a week hopefully.

Phoned hospital regarding my 12 week scan she said if letter doesn’t come by 12 weeks (next week) to call them they are only working and sending letters week by week due to covid.

@GWhiteley you might surprise yourself with pain. Last time I did hypnobirthing course I wanted to be in control of myself more than last time. I ended up having section due to baby being transverse but the techniques came in handy to keep me calm etc throughout. I might do a top up hypnobirth course this time.

Taybz · 16/02/2021 15:20

Hi everyone, just wanted to ask if your hospitals are going to allow partners to come to the 12wk scan. Just found out ours doesn't until the 20wk scan. I'm really upset about this as it's our 1st and I've already got anxiety about this pregnancy which I've told them. Also, I've heard that some hospitals do now allow partners in to the 12wk scan so I'm a bit cheesed off with the inconsistency!

AdventuresAwait · 16/02/2021 17:24

Hi @Taybz, in our area partners are not allowed at the 12 week scan either. They are at 20 weeks but I'm the same.. First baby and am concerned about age and other factors so really want my husband there for the 12 week scan. It's partly why we went at 10 weeks for a private scan but still would prefer him with me at the 12 week appointment...

AdventuresAwait · 16/02/2021 17:27

@2021mumma, how lovely to see your little one moving! 💕

Rach921 · 16/02/2021 17:31

Hi everyone, is it ok if I join this thread?

I’m pregnant with my first, I’m 8+4. I had a private scan at 7+2 just to check everything was ok as I’m so anxious about it all! Not heard from the midwife/hospital yet about my scan/appointment. It all feels very overwhelming!

Been suffering with nausea and exhaustion for the last few weeks. Drs have prescribed me cyclizine which has taken the edge off the nausea but I feel constantly wiped! I’m usually such an active and fit person and I’ve not done anything for weeks which is impacting my head space. I was on medication for anxiety but when I found out I was pregnant, the drs told me too come off them as they have a sedative in them. So it’s been a tough few weeks with hormones, lack of meds and feeling generally pants! I get to the end of most days and have a cry about it all and wonder how on earth I’m going to cope with another 7 months! I’m sure it’ll all pass in a few weeks.

It’s so nice to find a place where I can chat to people going through the same thing and read everyone’s experiences

AdventuresAwait · 16/02/2021 18:26

Welcome and congratulations @Rach921!

I agree that it can feel overwhelming. It took a while for me to hear from my midwife and I felt better after my booking appointment. I also had an early scan, which was lovely and reassured me.

I am 10+4 with my first and I'll be 40 in October. I tend to worry about things which is worse for me when I don't know what to expect! I've found it great to read and chat on here & am trying to focus on the excitement and take each day as it comes. But easier said than done!

I am also nauseous and exhausted but hear this should all get better after 12 weeks.

Exciting and nerve-wracking all at once Smile.

ftmum94 · 16/02/2021 19:26

We announced at 13 weeks just after our scan but before the Downs Syndrome testing results had come through (tbh I'd forgotten all about it until the letter came through!)

2021mumma · 16/02/2021 19:54

@Rach921 I’m also on cyclizine I’ve been on it since wk5 I’m currently wk11 it did take a few weeks to settle in but after a few weeks I felt less drowsy so hopefully will settle down for you too soon

Also haven’t heard about my scan called today and they said they are working week by week due to covid/staff rotas etc and to call back if haven’t heard by 12 weeks but to expect a scan up to 13 weeks.

GWhiteley · 16/02/2021 22:37

@Taybz our hospital isn't allowing partners in for the 12wk scan either. I thought that was the case right across England to be honest. I'm upset about it as well as although it's my husbands second it's my first & always envisaged him coming to both scans to share it together. We've agreed that as long as it's not too expensive & the rules haven't changed by the time we get to 20 wks then we'll look to have a private scan
@Rach921 my midwife put the request in for my 12wk scan so it might be worth chasing her? I got my letter within a week of my first mid wife appointment & I was around 8 wks when I first saw her. I'm sure she won't mind you following up with her

Not sure if anyone else is nearing the 20 week mark - but anyone got round ligament pains? Absolute mare with them yesterday 😣

BeanCan · 18/02/2021 23:23

@ftmum94 yep they are driving me crazy, especially on my right side for some reason 😖 today I went for a walk and the pains flared up - ended up hobbling back super slow, feeling like I needed a walking stick! Was agonising. I’m at 27+4 now, pains started weeks ago though and come and go randomly

ftmum94 · 19/02/2021 09:02

@BeanCan right side is where mine are worst too! I had to take a paracetamol it was so achy last week

GWhiteley · 21/02/2021 10:20

Can anyone tell me whether the strong sense of smell thing disappears at any point? Or at least lessens? It's driving me crazy!

2021mumma · 23/02/2021 14:54

Hope everyone is doing well! We got our harmony results back- low possibility for any syndromes which is great and we are having a boy! Super happy 😊
