OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
percy · 18/03/2003 19:37

hi guys

very sore back but apart from this OK

Melly - unfortunately my first labour was with an OP baby - not so good. Hands and knees is meant to be very helpful. My only advice would be to go for some pain relief early on to allow you to relax whilst the baby is turning as things can take a long time - but having said that as it is your 2nd it may be totally different????? I'm certainly no expert.

Abigail · 18/03/2003 23:23

Hi, this is my first message so feeling a bit nervous. Wish I'd noticed this thread before.
Due 8th May with first so it's it's all very exciting. Mumsnet talk has been a godsend to make evry possible experience seem more normal! Seeing the same names again and again seems like I know you all. Must get a more imaginative nickname!

Melly · 19/03/2003 10:19

Bundle, yes know what you mean about not being able to get comfy at night, I find turning over seems to take for ever and then within 10 minutes or so I feel like I need to turn back again!
Percy, sorry to hear about your back. Hopefully you might be right about 2nd time round being different, at least I suppose you know what to expect.
Welcome to the thread Abigail, hope your pregnancy is going well.

lisac · 19/03/2003 11:14

Hello again. I agree about the nights, just when we could all do with some uninterrupted sleep! Still, if it's not me waking myself up it's DD deciding that because the birds are singing outside she will too.

My current moans are very bad sciatica and the baby lying transverse so a possible CS looms. Still, I really cheered up when I got all the tiny sleepsuits and vests out of the attic ready to wash. This bit won't last forever!

bundle · 19/03/2003 11:23

percy - sorry re: your back, I've been lucky with that this time (touch wood) and lisac, my sciatica hasn't arrived (yet) though I seem to remember it was only the last couple of weeks last time, once baby had 'dropped'. does the transverse lie make you feel v 'wide'?
melly - agree re: fancy terminology - eg if you're going to have a breech baby, you might as well go for a footling cos it sounds cute

lisac · 19/03/2003 11:56

Bundle, I do feel very wide, but I'm not sure it's got anything to do with the transverse lie! I do feel "high" though - last time I was checked the baby had its back up at the top. It does feel very different from last time and the baby is very active with all that extra space in there.

bundle · 19/03/2003 12:28

my baby's head's down but I think her back's in my back as her feet kick a lot in the front/side.

deegward · 19/03/2003 14:07

If it is any consolation, mine was lying tranverse, and I think keeps going back to that position, but had a trial run yesterday, and the midwife said she could feel the head (due to an internal) Although I still look wider than round. Alot comfier now, and can turn over in bed with out moaning ALL the time, although an occasional moan keeps dh on his toes. Due next Thurs.

bundle · 19/03/2003 14:16

oooh deegward, how exciting! keep up the moaning

bundle · 25/03/2003 16:59

just started booking up pampering - kicking off with pedicure next week, followed by leisurely lunch and maybe a chick-flick to follow

lisac · 25/03/2003 17:35

Sounds lovely Bundle - let's hope your plans aren't thwarted by an unexpected arrival!
I finish work at the end of this week - not a moment too soon..

bundle · 25/03/2003 17:37

I'm expecting a late delivery lisac, as dd1 was 13 days 'overdue' - but I don't feel like I want baby out quickly - I'm still enjoying being pregnant

bundle · 25/03/2003 17:47

lisac, have you been working full-time? I've been part-time with this second pregnancy, thank goodness!

lisac · 26/03/2003 12:37

Bundle, originally a 9 day fortnight, and then went to 4 days a week at Christmas (but have been working a lot on my days off, as mentioned on another thread). I'm sure this baby will be early, though, as DD was a week early and I was two weeks early, so I don't think I'm going to get much R&R!

bundle · 26/03/2003 12:43

sympathies, lisac, I know lots of women want their babies to arrive 'on time' but those last couple of weeks at home were a godsend for me! everything was v straightforward this morning with consultant, still very much 'wait & see' and no deadline to aim for. urine test was clear, bp fine, baby not too big, not too small, feeling well so daytime telly here I come

lisac · 26/03/2003 14:04

That's great Bundle. Feet up and relax!!

percy · 26/03/2003 14:16

hi guys
pleased all is well with you.
35+ weeks now - midwife came round to discuss home birth which i think i'm going to go for?????? really bummed off though as baby is spine to spine (first birth like this). this is putting me off home birth at the mo - so am trying to do lots of all 4's - but really busy at the moment, trying to see all my clients so that I can take some decent amount of time off after the birth. ho hum.

you are all so close now it seems - waiting for the first announcement. how is the 'deeply engaged' baby doing melly?

bundle · 26/03/2003 14:53

percy, hope the babe turns for you & the homebirth goes well. mine is nowhere near engaged & i had the spine-to-spine thing last time which worried me a bit.

Melly · 26/03/2003 19:37

Hello ladies. Spine to spine babies must be quite common, that's three of us on this thread whose last baby was in that position.
Percy, this baby was lying spine to spine until about two weeks ago, midwife suggested usual positions but to be honest I didn't find the all fours particularly practical.....if I go into that position either dd or one of my golden retrievers thinks it a really good game to crawl under my tummy!! Anyway, have done loads of walking and that has apparently done the trick, although the "deeply engaged" head is bloody uncomfortable and I keep thinking that the baby is about to drop out! All the way through this pregnancy I've been convinced that I'll be a couple of weeks early, don't know why just a feeling. Am seeing midwife again tomorrow so will post progress (unless of course anything happens in the meantime )
Bundle hope you are enjoying your pampering sessions....sounds great. I wish I was as patient as you, I know I should be making the most of the last couple of weeks but I'm so nervous about what lies ahead I just sort of want to crack on with it!! I'm worrying about managing 2 babies under the age of 2 with dh away during the week, but I guess thousands of others have done it successfully.

deegward · 28/03/2003 18:35

Just thought I would let you all know, that I gave birth to ds #2 last night at 10.52pm. 6lb 15oz. All went well, I can thorughly recommend taking yoga classes through the pregnancy as only had entinox, and it was all over in 4 hours from start of labour. (their terms, not counting the week and half in the house)

Good luck to everyone who is still due, and thanks for your encouragement over past 9 months. Where do we meet to chat now? Parenting?

mears · 28/03/2003 18:40

percy - have a look at this site if you haven't already

www.homebirth.org.uk/ofp.htm

It gives advice about optimal fetal positioning - ie avoiding OP position.

kaz33 · 28/03/2003 19:13

Deegward - Congrulations on DS2 !! Do you have a name.

Melly, percy - my last baby was also spine to spine and will definitly be trying the all fours to make sure i don't have a repeat. Didn't even know I should last time.

Now 31 weeks and has just started to become hard work - if I don't get a seat on my 15 minute tube journey i really feel it !!

We have a huge treat this weekend as my parents have DS tonight, all of Saturday, Sunday and not bringing him back until Monday afternoon. DP and I are sitting here a bit shellshocked at the thought of two whole days on our own - What on earth are we going to do ??

Congratulations Deegward, have just seen your post, welcome to your world to your new little baby boy.
So how are we other ladies doing, this thread has gone a bit quiet......Bundle if you've had you're baby I'm extremely jealous
Saw midwife last Thursday and again yesterday. All well but I just feel so very uncomfortable. My sleeping is appalling at the moment, up about every 1-2 hours peeing and just can't get comfortable inbetween visits to the loo. Braxton Hicks are getting more intense and regular....about every 20 minutes....please someone tell me this is an encouraging sign...please. Head still deeply engaged etc, oh I wish I had a crystal ball, I'd just love to know when this baby is going to make an appearance.
How is everyone else doing?

percy · 03/04/2003 11:41

Hi all- and thanks for the website Mears - I will go on today.
I have just been on the ultimate pampering long weekend with dh and ds to ickworth house - oh bliss.
Congrats Deegward - and hang in there Melly - it can't be long now. I keep telling myself that I shouldn't be wishing it to come - I should be making the most of the time I have to myself - what about an afternoon cinema visit to distract????
