Pasting this from the thread that you have started Melly

Hi Melly I've had a similar experience,

I'm only pg with my first baby and have been having them since 16 weeks!

A couple of weeks (at 33 weeks) ago I started having them VERY frequently - sometimes 20 mins sometimes 5 mins apart! Not sore so I didn't think I was in labour. Although I did spend hours on the web trying to get info and found that:

  1. they can be caused by dehydration so go and get yourself a drink! 2)If they subside when you change what you're doing i.e. sit if you have been on your feet or vice versa then they're probably not labour
  2. only be worried if they come more than 4 x an hour

The next day I went to the anti-natal clinic where the midwife suggested I might go to hospital to get it checked out. I did this was monitored and told that everything was fine and that I was probably overdoing it (the night before I had been to the gym) They have calmed down now but seem to always come if I go to the toilet or exercise.

They are practise contractions so I'm just hoping that practice makes perfect and that means labour will be easier - maybe this is wishful thinking!

Hope all's well and let us know how you are getting on

Melly · 03/04/2003 13:54

Thanks Percy and Ninja. Practice contractions seem to have tailed off a bit today, so think I was getting a bit excited about nothing.
Percy, I know what you mean about making the most of the time left, but I can't seem to think about anything else and nothing will distract me!

bundle · 07/04/2003 15:42

don't worry Melly, I'm still waiting - due date is this Weds, ie 9th. sleep is appalling - also dd1 only recently 'liberated' from cotbed into big girl's bed! so she's visiting my bed lots too
other than that - not much to report. it's a very strange 'lull' between going on maternity leave to the baby arriving, but as dd1 was 13 days 'overdue' I'd better get used to it!
congrats deegward, very good news
my friend with the twin pregnancy had 2 lovely girls, both 5lbs odd and all doing well, so consider myself to be having an easy time of it! I'll keep you informed re: my own situation...

bundle · 07/04/2003 15:46

oh - forgot to say: now have a urine infection, so on antibiotics and been having a few practice contractions, but don't remember them being that painful before! (baby still moving so feel ok about it).

kaz33 · 07/04/2003 15:55

Odd isn't it, I've still got 7 weeks but already starting to feel a need to get as much sorted as possible. I sorted out DS1 old clothes at the weekend putting them into age categories - very surreal.

Bundle - every one says enjoy but its hard not to want the next stage to happen. Aren't you going on maternity leave soon ?

bundle · 07/04/2003 15:59

I'm on maternity leave (started 2 wks before due date) - but have only just put stuff into hospital bag, more because I'm disorganised than intentionally doing it late.thought about going to see a girly movie today but went shopping instead & got a towel rail/rack for bathroom, I'm just too darn practical

percy · 08/04/2003 14:19

how is everyone doing? Packed my hospital bag in part today although hoping to have baby at home. Feel pretty resigned to the fact that the baby is likely to be late as was almost 2 weeks late with ds1, but you just can't help thinking about it alot, huh? Once the baby is 'term' everyone keeps commenting and it is hard to remain distracted. Have lost all motivation to work although still have a few clients to see over the next week or so. What is news with the rest of the gang?

Melly · 08/04/2003 22:48

Hello ladies. Had some minor contractions yesterday evening, like mild period pains every 20-30 minutes, this went on for about 2 hours. Strangely had a really good night's kip last night. Also, not sure whether I had a "show", after going to the loo, noticed white mucousy (sorry about the graphic detail) thing. This morning just had sort of dull, dragging feeling which has been on and off all day today. Spent day with my auntie taking it easy but she seems convinced that things are slowly starting. I'm trying to keep calm and not get excited because I'm not sure and am bracing myself for another few days at least. Rung midwife (not mine) this am and she said possibly things could be in very early stages. Has anyone else had this, I sort of assumed being a 2nd baby that things, once they started, would progress quite quickly? Also thought the mucous plug thingy was supposed to be pinky brown?
Anyway, sorry for long rambling post, dh away until Thursday so am a bit anxious and keyed up.

pupuce · 09/04/2003 19:19

hmm... no one has replied to you!!!!
Well it does sound like things are starting but they could start slowly.... BUT ince they get going, remember those contractions you can't speak through???? well those should not last as long (the hours I mean not the length of the contraction) as your first labour....

Good luck... let us know how you get on.

P.S. Don't worry about show as you can loose it days before labour or during labour.... so it doesn't tell you much!

ninja · 09/04/2003 19:40

I was wondering where you were Melly and if the last contractions were the real thing. Hope this is it as you sounded like you were ready for all to happen (or at least for the discomfort to stop) - I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Melly · 09/04/2003 21:29

Thanks for your posts Pupuce and Ninja. Saw GP this morning for routine check (my own midwife on hols for a week). He was a locum or new I think, very nice and said that he thought I would deliver in the next few days going on what I told him. He found trace of protein in my wee and said that apparently that could be a sign, as BP is fine and has been all the way through. Today have been having loads and loads of tightenings, some more painful than others, period type low dragging ache in lower tummy and back so not sure what is going on. Also had increased discharge, really thick mucousy stuff (sorry!) so perhaps things are getting ready for launch!??
How's everyone else doing?

percy · 09/04/2003 21:39

oooh how exciting melly - i think it sounds like you are pretty ready to go to me. i think with all this stuff going on you'll probably be quite dilated already and therefore actual really painful stuff may be shorter?????? that is what i'd be telling myself anyway.
I'm doing OK but am pretty grumpy at the moment - blaming the hormones obviously! Good luck and keep us informed!

Melly · 10/04/2003 08:47

Hi Percy, thanks for your message. I'm still here, tightenings seems to have subsided over night so I'll just have to see what today brings. Know what you mean about being grumpy....on Monday I was ready to bite anyone's head off who even looked at me the wrong way! Feeling strangely calm this morning though.....

kaz33 · 10/04/2003 09:32

The calm before the storm... Try and get some rest and make sure you eat.

Good luck Melly - no doubt the little blighter will just pop out....

mum2toby · 10/04/2003 10:54

Oh melly - sounds close... that's how my labour started. How exciting for you! I was told to keep active and walk lots in the day or two that this happened.... oh and I drank lots of raspberry tea! And sure enough my waters broke!! Wahey!!....

Is this your first?... sorry for not knowing, but I find it hard to keep up with individuals on mumsnet.

lisac · 10/04/2003 11:01

Best of luck Melly! Keep us posted.

Flippa · 10/04/2003 11:02

Melly - pour yourself a nice long gin and tonic and have a hot curry this evening! At least - thats if things haven't already started happening!!! Do let us know....

percy · 11/04/2003 18:19

How are you doing Melly/ Bundle etc?
Went to the cinema this afternoon to see the Magdelene Sisters - great film but probably not recommended for heavily pregnant hormonal women - cried loads!!!!!
Am in on my own tonight and have bought myself a mini bottle of champagne and will get a take-away. Oh I'm doing so much pampering I think the shock of a new baby will be too much to bear!

bundle · 11/04/2003 23:11

hi all - finally got online at home...percy - I'd already banned myself from seeing movies like that one! may look for chickflick to watch tomorrow, last bid for freedome etc.
few tightenings and feeling shattered but snacks keeping me on the level. baby still head down but not engaged, still on antibiotics for uti, lots of baby kicking etc. did you see jules oliver had another girl yesterday? dd1 very clingy, maybe she knows more than she's letting on!

Melly · 12/04/2003 19:31

Hello Ladies........well.......woke up on Friday morning at 1.40 am when felt waters going, straight into very strong contractions, baby born on hall floor delivered by ambulance man at 2.30 am!!!! Ummm not quite how I'd planned things, but all well and I have a beautiful baby boy, 7 lbs 10 oz and he's called Alexander James.

Chinchilla · 12/04/2003 19:34

Oops! Hope you managed to catch him! Congratulations!

GRMUM · 13/04/2003 05:42
