They finally explained to my dad why they were keeping him in, and it's because the antibiotics they've put him on can cause issues with our heart condition, so he has to be monitored while on them, which is also why they're drip feeding them, so they can check they don't cause issues immediately, rather than waiting longer for them to kick in. But he's okay, sent us a picture and he looks much better! He just wants a decent nights sleep.

Contractions stopped between 2am and about an hour ago and since then I've had another 2 strong ones that made me clench up. It's so strange. My midwife wrote in my notes that I'd had preterm labour, so I don't think she quite understood what had happened??

RosieJess91 · 19/01/2021 21:25

Also @sakura54 how cute! So much hair! My DS was born with a similar amount of hair, I only remember suffering with a tiny amount of heartburn in the last week or 2.

My step daughter suffered with heartburn most of the way through her pregnancy and her son came out looking like I was wearing a wig!!

Smilingdonkey · 19/01/2021 22:38

I think with the heartburn/hair thing it's actually not that the hairy baby gives you heartburn but that the same hormones that cause heartburn also encourage hair to grow. So if you have a high level of these hormones then you have a higher chance of having both the burn and the hairy kid!
My DD was very hairy and I'm predicting this one will be too!

Pugprincess · 20/01/2021 07:09

@RosieJess91 sounds like your dad's heading in the right direction touch wood, and great that he's able to keep in direct contact as calling hospitals for updates isn't much fun. X

@bubblybon20 lovely scan pic and great to hear the baby is weighing well. Wonder what they will end up weighing 😁

I hope I do have a hairy baby it's so cute lol, dh has thick black hair. He was born bald though I think...

I washed my baby clothes yesterday but some of the second hand things have yellow stains so I've had to get rid, tried vanish and I don't have napisan but the things have been stored for years while ttc so I dont think they can be saved. Went to morrisons and picked up a few bits, trying tesco tomorrow. Mainly stocking up on 0 to 1 month and first size. Got a few newborn bits for hospital bag incase but would have to rush out and get more if tiny or drown them in the 0 to 1 lol. Struggling for unisex cardigans... Not going too mad as I think we will buy and be gifted pink or blue items when baby is here so I'm allowing for that too and will be nice to have some colour. Got some of my drawer dividers in so as things dry today I can start to put them away. 😁

Simmy20 · 20/01/2021 11:12

And in back 🙌 just got my positive test this morning.
Since my last mc in Nov I've had some bloods done and I've tested a low positive in antinuclear antibodies or ANA. So I'm now having to take aspirin and may possible have to take steroids to make baby stick so I've got everything crossed but can't help being worried

ew1990 · 20/01/2021 11:26

@rosiejess glad your dad is getting better, hopefully he will be home soon.

@bubblybon20 what a cute picture, I've got another growth scan in 2 weeks I'm trying to eat more to hope she's not dropped down the centiles again, it's so hard when you have no appetite

@simmy yay congratulations, praying for a sticky one for you.

Sorry if I've missed anything my memory is shocking.

Pugprincess · 20/01/2021 18:05

Aww congratulations @Simmy20 😁😁 the aspirin works well for people usually and I've not heard about the steroids but if they help it can't hurt 🙏

DanceM1 · 20/01/2021 18:43

@Simmy20 congratulations!

@RosieJess91 Great news about your dad- so pleased he is doing ok!

@Smilingdonkey thats interesting and makes sense about heartburn and hair!

@Pugprincess how exciting! Im going to wash clothes this weekend once we have wallpapered and my husband has put together the furniture 😬😬 So exciting!! Ive bought a cute little knitted cardigan from the white company that is a grey ish colour with little ears on the hood but I agree its hard to find gender neutral ones.

We have our last NCT class tonight all about breastfeeding.. I hope I learn a lot because I know nothing 🤣

Threnody · 20/01/2021 20:41

@Simmy20 welcome back, congratulations!
@Pugprincess I'm not looking forward to sorting through baby clothes, know I'll get a bit sad to get rid of all the girly dresses, and I didn't pack them away very sensibly so it'll be all checking labels for sizes. We should have enough clothes that we don't need to buy any, but I'll probably pick up a few bits anyway.

Have started getting palpitations, I had a pulse rate of 112 whilst sat doing crochet!

Pugprincess · 20/01/2021 22:23

@Threnody bless you, I get it too with the HR but to be honest mine races with anxiety even when not pregnant. Aww least you are well prepared. In certainly going to hold onto all this stuff incase we have a second as it's so expensive starting from nothing, like I will be glad when the nursery is done as it will never need that much work again just a change of wallpaper and lick of paint. Absolute money pit lol.

Oh yes @DanceM1 my fellow having a surprise friend 😁 I ought to have a look online for cardigans good idea. I will attach a photo of my Mrs Hinch style organising so far 😂 ps I can copy her but she can't have my clouds 🤣🤣😜

Pugprincess · 20/01/2021 22:24

@pugprincess I feel you, we are having all upstairs replastered at weekend and then someone coming tomorroe to measure for all new carpets upstairs. It's so much work Its stressful but will be so much better when it's done. My friend has got me a lovely vest made, made me tearful, I've just covered up the babies name Coz it's got surname on there. I can't wait for her to be here now

@Simmy20 yey welcome back! How many weeks are you? Will you book a private early scan or wait till 12w? I recall you’re in Oz, perhaps it’s different there. So jel you’re living a covid free life out there, the UK is a joke!

@ew1990 oh that’s so sweet of your friend, lovely idea.

Feel your pain with the work, we moved house 2nd Dec so are constantly doing stuff. Living room carpets ripped up last night & all furniture dragged into kitchen, today/tomorrow original wood floors being restored (lovely & relaxing while WFH with a kid also here 😂🙈). Next week we have damp work being done on our office (annoying expense 😩), then fireplace ripped out & log burner added, have also had some guttering & roof tiles repaired. Then we’ll decorate DD’s room, then start to think about baby’s room. Thank god we have nothing to buy clothes or baby bits wise!

@Pugprincess love the organisation! Only when I had DD did I start using those drawer organisers, still love them & use them now.

21+3 today & movements finally proper & stronger last night 💗 DH couldn’t feel but I like that it’s just mine & her bond atm, so precious.

Simmy20 · 21/01/2021 07:03

@Starfish762 only 3-4 weeks (af was due yesterday when I had positive test but I have a short cycle so I never really know how to count it!). Since I've been diagnosed with low level ANA then I've been speaking with my Dr already. Had blood tests and got results today to confirm my hcg level is 190. Will get another blood test next week to see levels then he wants to book me in for a 6 week scan then I think will get 8, 10 and 12 week scans with him. If all going normal then I think go back to normal or something like that. I pay for private health insurance so get to do all private instead of public. I'm not sure how things work there but it sounds like our public health system.

How exciting for you all to be getting rooms ready. We are in the middle of renovating our laundry as well. FIL already painted the nursery as soon as he found out about our first pregnancy that resulted in mmc at 7 weeks but at least it's nicely painted now so when we are sure this baby is going to stick it should be easy to turn it into a nursery. We all got a little too excited first time round

SkyBlue20 · 21/01/2021 09:14

Morning everyone!

@JennyMY Glad they didn't seem worried but can absolutely see how it would be a worry for you - you're in good hands.
I packed my hospital bag about two weeks ago 🙈 I'm just a planner in every aspect of life so just wanted it done and ticked off my list. Bit concerned my hyper organisation has left me nothing to do when I start my mat leave but also thinking I might be quite glad of that by that point...and what if she shows up early!

@Sakura54 Wow, look at all that hair, so lovely!

@RosieJess91 How's your dad? And how are you?

@Simmy20 Woohoo, congratulations!! Completely understand the worry, very glad it's all been diagnosed and is being treated though.

@DanceM1 How was your breast-feeding session? We had ours last weekend but split it in to two so have the final hour of it tonight. Found it so interesting with learning the best way to get them to latch and whatnot.

@Pugprincess Drawers are looking great, very organised!

@ew1990 What a lovely present from your friend!

@Starfish762 Sounds like you have loads going on! Exciting though - I love home improvements. We were hoping to get our bathroom ripped out and completely redone before baby arrived but left it too late so now we're thinking it might be a job for the Summer - we'll have to decamp to my MIL's for a week with the baby and the cat but it'll be worth it, I hate the current bathroom and it's the last major thing we need doing in the house.

Hope everyone is doing ok. I can't believe it's only Thursday, I woke up convinced it was Friday. Am just wishing the days away now though - five weeks left in work until mat leave. The last three have gone surprisingly quickly (when I look back - not at the time!), so I try to remind myself it'll be here before I know it! When does everyone else finish?

RosieJess91 · 21/01/2021 09:30

@skyblue20 absolutely knackered. Black circles under my eyes, look and feel like a zombie. I was getting the contractions again last night, they keep waking me up, but then they disappear again. Driving me loopy. I'm so tired, and my son seems to have picked up on it, because he keeps climbing into our bed in the middle of the night to cuddle me. Which is lovely, but that also wakes me up.

My dad will now be in hospital until at least Saturday, they're saying it's because they have the staff and they don't want to send him home just in case now. So it's literally for observations because he's fine now. Think they just don't want him going back downhill again.

I'm so tired, I can't actually remember if anyone else said anything I needed to respond to. I just want to sleep, but I have to wake my 4 year old up for a Zoom session with his school... 😫

Pugprincess · 21/01/2021 09:33

I love your babygrow @ew1990 😍 do you remember my rainbow reveal one? I'm going to get it out and wash it because I think it would be nice for baby to wear when they arrive, think mine might have been size newborn. Bless you with your renovations too, be nice when it's all done, all our upstairs needs plastering but that's not happening yet 😅 one room at a time for us. I reckon we have already spent about £500 on materials and there's still carpet, paint, wallpaper and curtains etc to get 😯

@Simmy20 the regular scans will hopefully help you get through that tricky first trimester, gives you some milestones too. I booked them fortnightly with this one until I could feel movements. Xx

Pugprincess · 21/01/2021 09:39

@SkyBlue20 thank you, and yes time is racing by now, I'm 28 weeks this Saturday so only 2 days left in the 2nd trimester 😁 I've emailed school to ask if I can start mat leave at 38 weeks. Just so I can chill and rest before baby is here. I'm not entitled to SMP so I've got to apply for maternity allowance. Just chasing school for the proof of SMP being refused then I can do the application.

@RosieJess91 bless you, that sounds really tough, sounds like a good idea about your dad with how quick he got poorly the first time, best to make sure he's defo OK, bet he's bored though xx

SenoraSurf · 21/01/2021 09:41

Hi everyone,

I got a bfp yesterday at 9dpo and am very happy to be back on the pregnancy board after a mc in november. Looking forward to hopefully being on this journey with all of you for the coming 9 months!

Yesterday I was tentatively excited but today I have mild bad ache and feels like mentally I'm straight back where I was during my mc (even tho I'm acutely aware is a normal early pregnancy symptom!).

Is this level anxiety and nervousness the norm for my pregnancy now? Can't help but feel so tense and apprehensive Sad

Simmy20 · 21/01/2021 10:10

@SenoraSurf congratulations! we are about the same. I had my second mc in Nov and just got my bfp yesterday at 14dpo. Unfortunately the anxiety and nerves don't go away at least for a while judging by what others have said. There are some great positve stories in here though which helps. Fingers crossed for sticky one this time

SkyBlue20 · 21/01/2021 12:22

Oh bless you, @RosieJess91, you're really going through the mill, big hugs. Is there any chance you can get even an hour to yourself tonight to have a nap or a bath or something relaxing?
Glad your dad is being looked after - good to know they're keeping an eye on him.

@Pugprincess I'm finishing at 38 weeks, too - two weeks to relax a bit and do some cleaning/batch cooking if I have the energy (though DH is the cook in this house as he's great and I'm terrible so he may have to coach me through it!) I keep thinking I'll be annoyed if she's like two weeks late as I'll get so bored, but also annoyed if she arrives when I've just started mat leave - 39 weeks earliest please baby so mummy can have some downtime 😂

@SenoraSurf Welcome and congratulations! I'm afraid it does seem the anxiety is the norm for a pregnancy after loss but I think generally we've found it does get better the further you go along - the first trimester is horrible but we got through by settling little milestones and trying to not look any further ahead than them. A few of us had private scans, too, just to reassure us. You just do whatever feels best for you - it's such a hard time - terrifying but exciting, too. The time will go faster than you think xx

I'm this > < close to going in to the hospital for reduced movements (again). Have hardly felt baby today and what I have felt has been really light and only the odd movement. From the very, VERY slight sense of a routine she has, she usually perks up again around lunch time so going to wait until after a call I have at 12:30 and then make a decision but I do think I'll end up going unless she suddenly decides to have a rave in there. I'm wondering if I ask my midwife for weekly monitoring, if she'll give it to me, this is getting to be too much for my mental health. She has no pattern, she has 'active' days (which aren't that active compared to most from what I can gather) and then really quiet days and I just don't know what I'm meant to be looking for or doing for the best - I could be in the hospital for monitoring three days a week if I went every time she was a bit quieter. It's so stressful! I read other people saying how much baby moves and it just makes me sad and stressed. I just feel like I don't know what I'm doing - I'm so scared of assuming it's all ok and normal and something going wrong!

SkyBlue20 · 21/01/2021 17:11

Went in for monitoring, all ok, baby took 45mins to meet all of the criteria though so was in there for ages. Midwives kept bringing me water to try and get her moving. As it’s my second episode of reduced movements in the space of three weeks, I’ve been referred for a scan and until the scan, I’m to go in for monitoring twice a week. It’s quite a relief to know I’m under that extra watch tbh. So I’m back in on Sunday and have to wait for a phone call to get my scan booked in. Was so busy in there, lots of women in for reduced movement and one woman (who was already 40+ weeks) in for excess movement and having a convo with the doc about whether to induce. They decided on not yet but it got me thinking about what I would do in her situation!

Hope everyone else is doing ok xx

Poppy10121 · 21/01/2021 17:21

@SkyBlue20 Oh no, I hope your afternoon got better - did you go to triage in the end or did she perk up? I feel your pain, I have a not very active baby and an anterior placenta, so even when I feel him it's quite light and its hard to know what's normal - plus he barely moves in the morning at all. Have you been keeping track in an app or writing down when she moves?

DanceM1 · 21/01/2021 17:38

Hi everyone, 34 weeks today, been feeling really positive, was looking forward to my midwife appointment then I went to the toilet and saw blood... all calm went right out the window. I spent all afternoon in triage again. Baby is testing me! Been on the monitor and baby was wriggling like mad as usual..kicking the midwife and heart rate was through the roof again until he/she calmed down. They took a swab using a speculum (delightful!) And said cervix is closed and they couldn't see any sign of infection or bleeding. So hopefully it is all OK...they said its most likely just one of those things but if anything comes back from the swab they'll be in touch. Pregnancy is so stressful.. I cannot wait for baby to be born. But also dont want to go into labour too early!! 🙈

@SkyBlue20 sorry you've had a stressful day too!! Babies are testing us both. So glad they're going to monitor you so much- that's really good! Dont think they do that at my hospital..they just said if it happens twice you see the doctor. Triagw was really busy here too... had to wait hours (literally) to see the doctor because they were in theatre. Lots of women in. They said we all came at the same time.
Breastfeeding course was good! I know what you mean.. some of the positions I have never seen before 🤣

DanceM1 · 21/01/2021 17:42

Also.. has anyone had the strep b test?
