@smilingdonkey he was breach at my scan on Wednesday (though midwife thought he was head down on Tuesday from feeling my bump!). I'm not 100% which position he's in but figure if I'm getting most movements down low he's probably still breach, with a bit of transverse thrown in for fun.

I am.a but nervous about him turning in time, I'm so sedentary at the moment, and I know walking and exercise helps babies engage. My stomach is still sore from pulling my muscles too!

I have a name in mind, but it's very popular which puts me off a little and my husband isn't keen for that reason. But we can't find anything else we like!

RosieJess91 · 17/01/2021 14:39

I'm so strange with names, I always wanted a son called Harry, after my Great uncle who passed away when I was about 9, I always remember him laughing, so I always said I'd name my son after him. But when I fell pregnant with my son, my mum told me I was going to have a son with wavy brown hair and funny coloured eyes, who wanted to be called Lucas. Never a name I would have picked, but it stuck, and he has wavy brown hair when it's long and very strange eyes that are sometimes very brown and sometimes bright blue. So we like to say he visited my mum and she's a bit psychic. He has 2 middle names, one of them is Xavier. Pronounced with the X. Both very geeky and wanted to give him an X-Men name!

The only girls name we've both ever agreed on was Molly, but it's his daughters middle name. The only one we both like is Lyra, but we have a niece called Lara... And I LOVE the name Lula. But he hates it. He likes Phoenix. But I think that's too out there. Absolute nightmare for names. 😂😂

Pugprincess · 17/01/2021 14:50

Beautiful clothes @Smilingdonkey 😊 it's actually nice to see girly clothes that aren't pink 💖

@JoJo58995 and @DanceM1 yep with you on the names and work thing lol.

@RosieJess91 aww loving your nursery 😁 thanks for raising the new born nappy situation as I was wondering the same. Im sure the aldi ones went to a bigger weight in newborn than the tesco versions I saw yesterday.

@Workingmama1 ah that makes sense, baby really seemed annoyed about things being pressed down too I thought 😂 started kicking up at belly button where the monitor was like it was booting or pushing it away 😅

I think my nesting is here super early but I'm quite a home body anyway so I'm not too surprised lol. On a cleaning mission today and dh is currently building the chest of drawers for nursery. Made some more good nursery progress yesterday. The plastering is all now finished and he has begun to attach the new skirting boards. I also bought stuff from tesco yesterday such as maternity pads (got 2 packs) , breast pads (2 boxes of lanisoh ones), water and room thermometer, water wipes for when out and about in the early days, 8 pairs of black cotton pants lol, and lanisoh nipple cream. I want to order that spritz for bits one of you recommended and some perineum cream to hopefully prevent that getting torn 😅 eyeing up some maternity nighties on ebay. Would ideally like a loose black button down long ish nightie for giving birth. And some that have lift flaps for breastfeeding at home. Also need nursing bras.

Did the breastfeeding zoom course this morn, found it really helpful as I am a novice to it all. X

Afternoon everyone!

@Starfish762 Yay, congratulations on your girl! Cake looks lovely. Thanks for doing the updated list, I can’t believe it’s less than a month until the first baby is due 😱
Re: names, I think I may have mentioned before but we’ve gone for Aria (assuming she suits it!) We also quite like Lila/Lyla and Arlo (though I still quite like that for a boy). Love all of the ones on your shortlist - and Felix, too!

@Pugprincess Lovely print and great nursery progress! I saw lots of cloud bits in the Mamas & Papas sale and thought of you, they have some lovely stuff. If anyone wants to order from them though, do it soon - I ordered some sheets and bits yesterday and earliest delivery I could get was 2nd March! Just got to hope baby isn’t early 🙈 Would have ordered from elsewhere but I had vouchers 🤷🏻‍♀️

@Smilingdonkey Lovely purchases! Love the hat, mittens and booties set, where’s that from?

@RosieJess91 Nursery looks lovely!

Had an intense few days with NCT - Thursday night and both Sat and Sunday mornings. It’s interesting so far but really intense! The travel system also arrived on Fri so we have that just set up and sitting in our living room at the moment - I’m so excited for her to arrive and to use it! And in other news, a good friend of mine told me yesterday that she’s pregnant. She’s not yet 12 weeks but all being well, we’ll have some maternity leave crossover, which will be so nice 🥰

Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend ☺️ Xx

Sakura54 · 17/01/2021 17:35

@Starfish762 Congrats. Cake looks nice. What did it look like inside? A lot of us are having baby girls!

Interesting to see the Grow Charts. Looks like I’m the only one apparently having a fat baby lol. I don’t believe I will because surely your babies should be similar sizes? If it follows my current centile, it’s saying baby will be 2lb heavier than DS!? I had growth scans with him but don’t remember the centile so who knows if it matched his actual birth weight.

In saying that I have gained over 7kg so far which is more than what I gained when I had him at 36w! I’m 34w today and gained a kg in the last 5 days alone lol.

Nappy size-wise, he was in size 1 for 3 months as he was small so obvs I needed a lot. I’m waiting to see how big this baby will be first.

I’d love for my DH to be able to WFH, especially when there’s a baby and kid to look after, but he’s always at work and soon he’s going to have night shifts thrown in too, poor sod. I suppose it’s better than his 9-5 previous job where he was gone 12 hours a day including travel and unpaid overtime.

My dad's just been rushed into hospital because he's struggling to breathe. How can he go from being well enough to go to B&Q only days ago, to being rushed into hospital today? His Covid symptoms started Boxing Day. How does it go up and down like this? Trying to stay calm, but I've had calls from my sister's crying. And that's really hard. My son had pneumonia age 2, so I'm trying to think that my dad's a strong man, he'll be okay. He's a lot stronger than a 2 year old!!

Don't know what to do with myself while I wait for more info. 😕 sorry to bring the mood down, just don't know who to talk to or what to do.

SkyBlue20 · 17/01/2021 17:42

Oh @RosieJess91, I’m so sorry, how worrying! How old is he? Is he otherwise fit and well? Hopefully once they give him the help with his breathing, it’ll allow his body to fight it off and he’ll be home before you know it. Big hugs xxx

Smilingdonkey · 17/01/2021 17:48

@rosiejess that's scary. I'm so sorry you are going through this. Just keep reminding yourself that that vast majority of people who go into hospital make a full recovery. If he is there he is in the best place to get any treatment as soon as he needs it and they know so much more about it than they did last March so know what best to do to help now xxxxxx

ew1990 · 17/01/2021 19:27

@rosiejess what a worry for you, hope he gets better soon, he will be looked after don't worry

DanceM1 · 17/01/2021 19:40

@RosieJess91 I'm so sorry to hear your dad is so poorly. Such a bloody awful virus. Im sure he will be ok and like @Smilingdonkey said, he is in the best place! I understand it must be really scary for you though.

Question for everyone... have any of you bought a breast pump? I've been advised not to try and save on one and invest in a really good one but they're so expensive!

Workingmama1 · 17/01/2021 20:06

@RosieJess91 so sorry to hear about your Dad, that must be scary. Like the other ladies have said, he is in the best place for them to look after him. Wishing him a swift recovery.

@dancem1 I'd not get one until you are relatively sure you will breastfeed. You can always nip out to get one (even in lockdown argos or boots you can collect for and of course amazon prime!). If your desperate for one beforehand get a cheap manual one. For electric I got the madela swing (literally sent my dad out to get it the day I got out of hospital!) as I'd used a medala in hospital and they gave me large breast sheild. Looking now it looks like there is an updated version out now too!

Smilingdonkey · 17/01/2021 20:16

@dancem1 I'd second that - I breastfeed for two years and only used the pump once - couldn't get on with it so it was a massive waste of money! 😫 It was so much easier to just whip the boob out that I decided in the end just to take the hit and do all the feeds! 🤣

Workingmama1 · 17/01/2021 20:29

Also, here is progress on the nursery! We already had all the furniture, curtains and pictures so all that we really changed was the paint and wallpaper. Helps it feel a bit more real now...

@RosieJess91 oh gosh how stressful for you. I’m sure he’ll be okay given he’s felt well this week, he’s in the best place.

@Workingmama1 looks amazing! 💚🦓🐘

Pugprincess · 17/01/2021 21:58

Ohhhh I just typed a long msg and lost it 😔😖

@RosieJess91 I hope you will get a positive update on your dad soon, its horrible that we can't visit, has he taken a phone to keep in touch?

@DanceM1 the lady leading the course this morn said if you want to breastfeed don't buy a pump. She recommended hand expressing for relief and encouraging baby to drink if your engorged. She also mentioned hiring a pump from hospital if needed as cheaper and might not use much.

@Workingmama1 nursery looks amazing, you are all finishing nurserys it's very inspiring x

I spent this aft sorting through my baby clothes. A friend said about not using fleecy baby grows as they cause baby to overheat and therefore raise a SIDS risk. What do you guys think? Ive made a list as I need more stuff. I've sort of grouped first size and 0 to 1 months together as seem similar for weights, I only have 4 vests for those sizes. I have more 0-3 months but I don't suppose they will fit those right away. I've ordered drawer organisers so I can start washing and putting on drawer properly when they arrive. X

Anyone else suffering bad heartburn? I seem to have it 24/7 now x

DanceM1 · 17/01/2021 23:12

@Smilingdonkey @Workingmama1 @Pugprincess thank you thats interesting. My sister said the opposite 😂 to get one straight away because ill need it. Im planning to exclusively feed... I realise things don't always go to plan of course but really want to do everything I can to make it work. But I will want to express (not straight away) so that DH can do an occasional feed. Also so I dont burst. Also been told that hand held ones are a nightmare so wasn't going to even try it 😂 Interesting to hear other peoples perspectives! My sister had the medala one too. I may wait until baby arrives then! That was my plan until my sister was like nope..just get it bought 🙈

@pugprincess I have terrible heartburn 🙋‍♀️ Its horrendous. I never know what has woken me up during the night but I wake up regularly with heartburn, needing a wee and baby having a party 🤣

@workingmama your nursery is beautiful 😍

Smilingdonkey · 17/01/2021 23:33

@dancem1 you know it's such a personal thing and so different for each woman it's impossible to say isn't it?🤷 I never had an issue with over supply so never felt the need to pump but that could be totally different for you! Maybe you could buy one right before baby arrives and take it back if you don't need it?!

Workingmama1 · 18/01/2021 08:22

@Smilingdonkey thats a great idea to buy one and then take it back! Then if you need it its there, and if you don't open it you can get your money back as good ones aren't cheap!

@Pugprincess, yes to heartburn! It's worse at night after I've eaten, and sit propped up in bed until ingo to sleep to minimise the amount of time led down. Gaviscon is being swigged from the bottle, which I have in every room of the house!

Also on fleecy baby grows i do think its best to avoid them most of the time, especially at night. They can be useful in the pram or car though (especially car when they shouldn't wear coats or snowsuit as you cant tighten the straps properly. But a lot if fleecy ones are also made from polyester which makes them extra sweaty!

Workingmama1 · 18/01/2021 08:23

@Pugprincess also if your heartburn is really bad your GP can prescribe you Omeprazole which should help. I've notnrrached that stage yet but dont think it's far off!

Pugprincess · 18/01/2021 10:16

@DanceM1 it's probably been my worst symptom.

@Workingmama1 that's a good idea regarding fleece in cars. Hopefully it will be warmer come April but it's hit and miss, sometimes we get heatwaves other times it's snowing 😂 Good to know the gps can help with the heartburn too thanks. Some days I'm taking 3 to 4 doses of rennies. Im trying to sit up straight and chew food lots before swallowing but like you say as baby takes up more room it's likely to get even worse. I think I'm close to throwing up with it sometimes. I've read online chewing sugarless gum for half hour after eating helps and they recommend drinking almond milk so maybe we could try those xx

ew1990 · 18/01/2021 10:43

Those with heartburn chalky sweets were a godsend for me with DD. Stuff like them refresher tabs and love hearts. Sounds daft but they worked.

Hope everyone had a good weekend, 2 days sickness free for me! Yay

Pugprincess · 18/01/2021 11:04

@ew1990 ah thanks I better stop off at another shop 😂 just been Co op for the milk and chewing gum lol.

Ladies who've been suffering from heartburn - I feel you! I've had zero nausea in my pregnancy but constant heartburn from 19 weeks. It's got worse again the last 2 weeks - I'm spending half the night downstairs on the couch and have got through litres of Gaviscon. Will try the chalky sweets tip 🙂
I have a growth scan this afternoon - time to see if he has gone up from the 30th centile - he's a yo-yo baby, keeps us guessing from scan to scan....
Hope this week treats everyone well 😊xxx

DanceM1 · 18/01/2021 13:32

@Smilingdonkey yeah, you're exactly right. Everyone will have different advice on something so personal won't they! I think I'm going to hold off for now and see when baby arrives😊

@Pugprincess I bet! I keeping thinking im not going to have as much gaviscon tonight, ill make do without it and then I just can't!! Not eating after 7pm is helping but even drinking water seems to set it off 😂
