Bleeding at 10 Weeks - terrified

MintGreenLife · 06/01/2021 15:20

I posted yesterday as I had some light pink spotting. Spotting stopped and thought all was OK. Went to the toilet about an hour ago and have started bleeding - is red blood with some very small clots. EPU won’t see me because of Covid as they are trying to limit the number of people that come in. Has anyone had the same and everything turned out OK?! I’m obviously very upset and worried. Thanks x

Yes, had that and, yes, hospital wouldn't see me urgently either, it started on a Fr night. Passed clots size of 50p coin. But it stopped after 2 days, I had a scan on Mon and everything was ok. My DC is 10y now.
It's happens sometimes. I was told it might have been a twin, but I doubt it.

MintGreenLife · 06/01/2021 16:09

@OJCJM thanks so much for replying, glad to hear everything turned out OK with you. I had a scan at 7 weeks and baby was measuring exactly as expected and saw the heartbeat, was confirmed it was a single pregnancy too. Really hope mine eases up and all looks OK, just know I won’t be able to rest easy until I’ve been able to have a scan to check x

Hi @MintGreenLife (hello again! We've spoken on other threads)

I had a bleed just before Christmas at just over 6 weeks, was convinced it was all over and then the bleeding stopped. It was brown and red, and I needed a pad though. I didn't have a scan until NYE which showed everything was fine. Obviously I don't know if everything will be ok, but it didn't seem like that particular bleed was the end. I am so surprised they won't see you. That is awful Thanks

MintGreenLife · 06/01/2021 16:31

@Daffodil21 hey, thanks for replying ☺️ So glad everything turned out to be ok with you despite the bleed. It really is such a worry isn’t it. That must have been really tough waiting until NYE to be checked over. Do you mind if I ask how long your bleeding lasted? If EPU still won’t see me I am wondering about whether to have a private scan, but then thinking that might be silly if the reason why EPU won’t have you in unless they think it’s absolutely necessary is because of trying to limit the Covid risk x

@MintGreenLife it was partly my decision to wait. I've had 3 previous losses, the last one being just in November so I told myself that if I started bleeding before 7 weeks I would wait it out because it's likely it could go either way with no answers. I had to wait a couple of days for it but I had stopped bleeding by then so it wasn't urgent. I can't believe they won't see you. Could you have your HCG checked at the gp? That's what I did after a bit of spotting when wiping a week or so before the bleed.

It didn't last long, it was throughout one evening and then nothing through the night, and then some the following morning. But it was bright red and brown abs enough to need a pad. I would get a private scan tbh. Being in limbo is the absolute worst

MintGreenLife · 06/01/2021 17:04

@Daffodil21 that makes sense. That’s a good idea about HCG, I will keep that in mind. Spoke to my midwife about half an hour ago who said if I’m still bleeding tomorrow she will push to get me seen. I did have a scan with the NHS at 7 weeks though as because of irregular cycles they wanted to confirm my dates before my 12 week scan, even though I knew I was 7 weeks. Saw the heartbeat and baby was measuring exactly as expected at 7 weeks and 1 day, so am trying to use that to reassure myself and take some comfort from that. I think if mine stops I might be able to hold on until my 12 week scan in 2 weeks, but know I’ll be very anxious that whole time.

@MintGreenLife it won't do you any good waiting, you'll just be wondering. I got to the point where I just couldn't take not knowing any longer, I just HAD to have a scan to know either way. I'm glad they are listening to you. It's a shame you have to push so much though

MintGreenLife · 06/01/2021 17:26

@Daffodil21 I think I’ll see how tomorrow goes, and if they still won’t see me then may decide to get checked with a private scan x

HCG levels at ten weeks aren’t going to tell you anything, they usually peak around this time so both a rise or a drop can be normal.

Daffodil21 · 06/01/2021 17:29

Ah good point @Darkstar4855 I hadn't thought of that. Never got that far in a pregnancy and I try and avoid researching too far ahead of things! Let's hope they give you a scan @MintGreenLife. Do keep us posted x

MintGreenLife · 06/01/2021 17:32

@Darkstar4855 @Daffodil21 thanks for your advice, I’ll be sure to update you x

I bleed in pregnancy (and after) due to cervical erosion. Particularly in the first trimester. This time one of my bleeds was at 11 weeks with small clots - sex caused that one. It isn't usually started by sex though - it can be random. I've never managed to be seen at EPU.

MintGreenLife · 06/01/2021 18:05

@AegonT thanks for sharing your experience. To be honest we had avoided having sex so far as I had a LLETZ procedure around 5 years ago, but after seeing the consultant about it and being told sex should be fine we did DTD this Saturday just gone, and then the spotting started on Tuesday, stopped after an hour or so and then bleeding this afternoon but seems to be stopping again. I have wondered if it could be some kind of irritation to my cervix, made worse by walking the dog, as both days the spotting/bleeding has started an hour or so after walking the dog and eased off again an hour-2 hours later. Think I’ll stay off my feet tomorrow and see if that helps x

I hope it all works out for you! I’m just 7 weeks, I started light brown spotting on Sunday and it’s been off an on since, tonight though it’s a got more intense with light cramps and bright red with tiny bits that looked like tissue. It’s only when I wee though - anyone ever had this time of experience? I am expecting worst to be fair, I’ve got a private scan booked for Sunday anyway.

MintGreenLife · 06/01/2021 19:32

@Gamechanger2019 Sorry to hear you’re experiencing similar, hope your scan on Sunday shows all is OK. It’s so hard not to think the worst. I’m on the fence at the mo about whether to book a private scan, think I’ll just see how the next few days go x

OP posts:
Gamechanger2019 · 06/01/2021 19:49

@MintGreenLife it might help put your mind at rest if you do? I’m personally not very hopeful I just feel too crampy tonight, and I’m on count down for Sunday 😭

MintGreenLife · 06/01/2021 19:55

@Gamechanger2019 I think I need to sleep on it before I make a decision. EPU said they would call me again tomorrow too so will see what they say. Really hope it’s good news for you x

OP posts:
Gamechanger2019 · 06/01/2021 20:31

Fingers crossed for you too xxx

MintGreenLife · 07/01/2021 17:46

My spotting has started again :( EPU were meant to call me today to follow up and didn't. Surely they can't leave me over the weekend still with no clue what's going on and if baby is OK!?

OP posts:
Daffodil21 · 07/01/2021 17:59

@MintGreenLife that is terrible!! Not that you should have to, but could you book a private one? Or call the maternity unit which should be open 24 hours a day?

MintGreenLife · 07/01/2021 18:04

@Daffodil21 thanks for replying. Can't help but find it odd how my spotting is always in the evening/afternoon. I've literally just booked at private scan for first thing Monday morning, so at the worst I'll have to wait until then. I really hope I get seen tomorrow though, I guess I'll have to really put my foot down. Honestly think it's pretty awful nobody called me today after they said they would, not sure what needs to be happening to be taken seriously.

OP posts:
Daffodil21 · 07/01/2021 18:08

@MintGreenLife it's funny you should say that because mine is mostly in the afternoon or evening too, mostly in the evening and then usually nothing overnight. To be honest when you said they said they'd call you today, I didn't hold out much hope that they would. Which is terrible. They should have arranged something the minute you called them. I'm glad you've got a scan booked for Monday but I hope they see you sooner. It really is awful being in limbo and not knowing x

MintGreenLife · 07/01/2021 18:12

@Daffodil21 oh interesting, I wonder if it's somehow hormone related or something. Mine has been stopping over night also. I was sure they would call me, in fact it never went through my mind that they wouldn't. I was crying on the phone to the woman I spoke to yesterday so she knew how distraught I was. Luckily my midwife is on my side and is going to call them first thing and put in another referral. Like you say I'll have to put my foot down as surely I can't be left like this having no clue if everything is OK or not :(

OP posts:
Daffodil21 · 07/01/2021 18:34

It's absolutely disgusting they're leaving you to it. I really hope you get some good answers soon. Push push push and please let us know x

Gamechanger2019 · 07/01/2021 18:36

@MintGreenLife ah that’s awful. Are you experiencing cramping or is it spotting only?
