@Kj1010 my son's 7 weeks (8 on Wednesday) on his new milk he's drinking 3.5oz every 3 hours during the day, at night he goes
3-4 hours but usually only drinks 1-2oz. He averages anywhere from 21-26oz per day, according to the tin he should be drinking 25oz.

lc86 · 25/01/2021 00:54

My lo drinks 6oz most feeds, between 6/7 bottles a day, he's 7 weeks. Pretty sure leap 2 is starting, he's been so difficult to settle tonight and the app says he'll be starting it in two days. He's gone from going to bed at 10 to only just settling tonight 😩

Pinktruffle · 25/01/2021 01:52

My LO is 10 weeks on Tuesday, he is having 5 or 6 ounces every 3/4 hours. He does tend to be extra hungry at night though. He has 6 ounces at 12 and has just had another 3 at 1am. He has been doing this for the past couple of days, I think it may be contributing to him sleeping longer.

Kj1010 · 25/01/2021 09:06

@lc86 what app is that please

peachypetite · 25/01/2021 09:13

My baby is 9 weeks, mainly breastfed but when she has a bottle it’s a little over 4oz, she’s still quite small. Mine is also going through a leap and you can tell! @Kj1010 I use wonder weeks. Worth the money.

Kj1010 · 25/01/2021 09:15

@peachypetite thankyou x

lc86 · 25/01/2021 09:30

@Kj1010 same, wonder weeks xx

Jwl45 · 25/01/2021 09:51

We are on 5oz bottles and breastfed. She is 11 wk today. Bottles - about 4 a day. And breast other times
Last bottle has been around , 8-30pm in the last few days and she sleeps through til feeding.
around 3 or 4am usually and then 6 or 7 am.(breast) Then couple of times in day.

She was born 7lb11

Kj1010 · 25/01/2021 09:54

Thanks all

Hi all. I was on the old thread and haven't been around on this new one but have been reading all your lovely updates on your babies today. It's great to see how well you are all doing and some managing a good chunk of sleep!!
I'm back on meds for my anxiety which seems to be helping as I went through quite a rough few weeks.

Has anyone used this time or before birth reflections at their hospital? They recommended to me as I've been struggling to deal with how traumatic the birth ended up going. Not sure if this will help bringing it up all over again though?? X

lc86 · 25/01/2021 10:36

@Amyyy1 nice to see you back and feeling a bit better 😊 I haven't used reflections but someone I know did, she ended up a bit frustrated as they couldn't give her the answers she wanted about what went wrong etc.. I suppose it depends what you want from it. It could bring you some 'closure' if you are still thinking about it a lot xx

EithneBlue · 25/01/2021 12:21

@Amyyy1 - Actually anyone I know that had a traumatic birth (myself included) has chosen not to do it. I think, though, it depends on the nature of the trauma and whether you think it will help you individually to review what happened? If a lack of understanding of what went "wrong" is the issue, it could be useful for closure. In my case I elected not to (and because of the way my son's birth went I was offered the opportunity for an independent formal review) because I understand what happened and the "why it happened" was literally just chance/bad luck, not anything I did or anything the medical staff did. If you're hesitant maybe wait a while to consider it and give yourself more distance from the situation?

Amyyy1 · 25/01/2021 14:51

@EithneBlue @lc86 Thank you both for your replies. A couple of consultants came and spoke to me whilst I was still in hospital to explain the situation and what would need to happen in any future births so I guess the reflections may not be too useful as I'm unsure they'll be able to give me the answers I want and might also leave me feeling frustrated and worse off for bringing it up again. I might wait a bit longer when it's not all still fresh and upsetting to talk about and see how I feel then🤔

Thank you x

Snowwhite2020 · 26/01/2021 12:11

@Amyyy1 @EithneBlue sorry to hear about your traumatic births. Love to you both act hope you are able to heal physically and mentally as quickly as possible xx

Amyyy1 · 26/01/2021 18:02

@Snowwhite2020 Thank you💛

Did anyone else have their baby's 6-8 week check over video call? I thought I would be going to see the health visitor to check her weight etc! X

peachypetite · 26/01/2021 18:36

@Amyyy1 that check is done by the GP. Video call isn’t acceptable in my opinion.

peachypetite · 26/01/2021 18:37

@Amyyy1 sorry posted early: I had one with the GP and one with the HV. If both are video you can request to get your baby weighed and they’ll book you in at your local clinic.

EithneBlue · 26/01/2021 18:41

@Amyyy1 - I think it depends on the GP - ours was in person but the HV said that not all practices are doing that. Baby's first consultant followup from the NICU team was a telephone one, however -- but the consultant suggested asking for baby to be weighed at the vaccination appointments since you have to be there in person for those - might be worth asking? :-)

@Snowwhite2020 Thank you lovely xx

Not heard a peep from doctors at all my lo is 7weeks 1 day

Pinktruffle · 27/01/2021 00:07

Can I ask how long everyone's Lzo's are sleeping? Mine is 10 weeks today and he still sleeps the majority of the day, he wakes for a couple of hours here and there and sleeps most of the night too. I'd say he sleeps roughly 16-18 hours a day, sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more. I'm a FTM so was wondering a) is it still normal at 10 weeks and b) when does he start to stay awake for longer periods in the day?

alphabetti · 27/01/2021 00:41

6wk check was postponed to coincide with baby’s 8wk vaccinations due to Covid but that’s fine with me. We have appointment in morning. Had midwives visit day after coming home and day 5 then health visitor 2wks, 3wks, 5wks and 7wks so plenty of face to face contact.

Baby was born 7lb3oz and at 7wks weighed 9lb13oz. I breastfeed but no real routine with her as sometimes will go 3/4hrs and sometimes hourly. It is still a struggle to get her to sleep at night as she will feed, fall asleep then once she’s put down she’s awake after minutes and cries till held. It’s a constant battle but some nights I manage to get couple 2hr blocks sometimes hardly any! Partner working so I insist he sleeps until 4am when he’ll take her downstairs so I can sleep 4-7am. If she’s then hungry he will give her a bottle of formula but sometimes she’ll barely take any and sometimes 4oz. As the weeks continue it’s frustrating that she still doesn’t like sleeping alone but just keep persevering. She’s usually worn out in morning though and will sleep. I usually end up using that time to clean/put washing on/iron otherwise with a partner and 2 older children house would look like a bombs hit it!!

Anotherboy · 27/01/2021 08:26

@peachypetite my lo is 10 weeks today, and as soon as he's awake I feel he's ready for another sleep! He's only up 1-2 times between 8pm and 5am, and can manage 1/2 -1 hr awake in the day before he's yawning away. I don't remember my first sleeping so much, but this guy is nice and alert, smiling and playful when he is awake so I'm not worried.

EithneBlue · 27/01/2021 09:07

@Pinktruffle - according to my app he averages 14 hours of sleep a day but it seems to vary between 12 hours and 16 hours (8 weeks old) - his wake windows can be anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours but he gets incredibly grumpy if he's awake for too long! Without looking at the graph though I'd have estimated he sleeps slightly more than that so you could track it? It does sound normal though :-)

Amyyy1 · 27/01/2021 09:54

Thank you for replies. I'm going to ring HV this morning to question why the appointment has been changed to video only. My LO struggled with getting back to her birth weight after being unwell and at my last visit they made it sound quite important to keep track of it! I might buy some baby scales myself too.

My baby is 7 weeks and only wakes up once in the night for a feed. During the day she's usually awake for 2 hours at a time, she has gone 4+ hours on days where she just won't settle but that definitely reflects in her mood after!!!

What app does everyone have to track sleep? X

Pinktruffle · 27/01/2021 10:56

Thanks ladies, I wasn't worried as such because if he needs to sleep, he'll sleep no matter what I do (or he'll cry until he's asleep). Other people keep exclaiming that he is always asleep and I assumed it was just that they had forgotten how much newborns sleep but wanted to make sure.

What apps are you using to monitor sleep?
Has anyone got a baby that self soothes to sleep? Or is this just a myth I keep reading about on the internet at this age? I feel lucky when my LO sleeps in his crib forget him putting himself to sleep.
