I know, I'm really disappointed in the care I've recieved. Luckily I'm fine and so is my LO as far as I'm aware but we could so easily not be fine and no one would know and I don't think anyone would care.

lc86 · 18/01/2021 17:22

I really feel for vulnerable families and at risk children at the moment

Kj1010 · 18/01/2021 17:25

Yes I agree after care hasn't been great at all
And I feel sorry for ftm who maybe ain't sure etc

peachypetite · 18/01/2021 19:11

Hi all. How have you found infant Gaviscon?

lc86 · 18/01/2021 19:59

@peachypetite rubbish, we changed to anti reflux milk and made a huge difference x

Kj1010 · 18/01/2021 21:21

I'm one of the lucky ones luckily my little man has been ok

peachypetite · 18/01/2021 21:40

Are you giving it before every feed?

Snowwhite2020 · 18/01/2021 21:46

@peachypetite it works really well for us but it’s a balance between stopping the reflux (which for us it totally does) and getting her a bit stopped up. We just give it before bed now and it helps her stay settled over night as she was waking to be sick etc and with hiccups. So positive review here! X

Ding123 · 19/01/2021 02:21

@Pinktruffle you asked about choking in an earlier post, unfortunately it can happen and I have posted about it on this thread (not sure what page it was). My LO is 10 weeks now. A few weeks ago he choked (whilst awake) on milk and mucus about 5 minutes after I gave him some gripe water. We called an ambulance though he did start breathing again before the medics reached. But they insisted he be taken and checked over at the hospital incase of milk aspiration. Ambulance ride was a first for me as well as LO and hopefully it's the last!

Paediatric consultant we saw told me it's rare but can happen with reflux. Scared the living daylights out of me and so frightened I don't think I slept for a week after. Sorry don't want to alarm you, it's very rare but it's crucial to keep a close eye on refluxy babies at all times.

kkr168 · 19/01/2021 06:27

Much better night here, had a feed at 10:30pm then 2am, lastly a feed at 5am. He has been wide awake since the last feed though, still it's much better then yesterdays 4am start, he's currently sat happily in his bouncer.

Infant gaviscon worked for 2 days for us, then stopped working

peachypetite · 19/01/2021 07:54

GP has diagnosed reflux and given gaviscon. She is still feeding too regularly to give it before every feed. Just some questions
Is it meant to stop vomiting completely or just reduce it?
Are you getting repeat prescriptions for it?

Trufflepuffpuff · 19/01/2021 08:01

@peachypetite It should make it better but it depends how bad it was as to whether it'll stop completely, for my baby it mostly does but she occasionally still brings up her milk. Same here, she has too many feeds to have it with every one so I tend to mostly use it at night. Be aware that it only works for the feeds you use it in though so you may still have to deal with the vomiting when not using it. I find the day is more manageable though. I'm still worried about constipation so I don't use it too much either.

I don't have a repeat prescription, just phone the GP when I need more, but also to check in about how it's working.

Urgh DH is doing my head in at the moment. He’s back at work but wfh & is adamant that he needs 8 hours sleep to function.

He’s getting about 7.5 unbroken & is moping around the house that he’s tired. I asked him to change DS and he sat on the edge of the bed for 10 mins “waking up”. In that 10 mins, I bathed and changed a screaming DS and have been feeding him for 20 mins while DH is taking a shower.

It doesn’t help that I overheard MIL tell DH how worried she was about him due to his lack of sleep.

He’s normally brilliant, I just think he’s hating being back at work & wfh so he’s focusing on the “I’m tired” part rather than the job part.

EithneBlue · 19/01/2021 08:45

@MaverickDanger - my husband ended up suffering more from tiredness than me, too: he takes naps now if he's very tired instead of complaining (he was previously saying "but I can't nap because you're more tired than me" - which prompted me to send him to bed to shut him up)! I think in my husband's case it was mostly just the stress of a sudden new situation making him so tired (and a new job that he'd only been doing a few weeks before baby/paternity leave spent mostly in NICU) - he's less tired now, which is good because there were a couple of evenings this week when I was like "please take your son, I need a break" 😂

lc86 · 19/01/2021 08:55

We had a fab night last night. I know it's controversial but we put baby in his own room for first time, he's 6 weeks. We have a video monitor. He went down at 10, woke at 3 for a feed and then slept 3:30-7:10. Also meant we had a good night sleep as weren't kept awake with his grunting/movements xx

peachypetite · 19/01/2021 08:58

@Trufflepuffpuff thanks. I’m not sure how I feel about giving such a tiny baby Gaviscon. She’s still been sick after it anyway. She is being weighed again next week and I’ll see her progress.

Trufflepuffpuff · 19/01/2021 10:17

Yep I know, I felt the same @peachypetite but the health visitor persuaded me to try it. I'm not actually sure how much it's helping, I might try a night without it. I'm so worried about her getting constipation too.

Is anyone just finding this so hard and relentless? I keep thinking things will get a bit easier but I'm still finding it so exhausting.

peachypetite · 19/01/2021 10:56

@Trufflepuffpuff I know, I think constipation would be worse to deal with to be honest. I am finding it hard. I thought you just fed babies. Had no idea about reflux or anything else linked to feeding.

kkr168 · 19/01/2021 11:34

@peachypetite it is a never ending vicious circle isn't it. Gaviscon & my son's current milk both caused him to be constipated, so he now has to have medicine for that. Reflux was awful for him & us though, so to me it has all been worth trying at least & unfortunately it is a bit of trial & error finding what works best for your LO.
Our son went from literally screaming in pain during & after every feed (sometimes for hours & then as he stopped his next feed was due) to a very happy, smiley baby. The constipation didn't really bother him to much surprisingly & his medicine has got things moving normally again for him.

How long have you been using the gaviscon? My dr told me it should work instantly so if are still experiencing reflux symptoms (not just sickness) I would go back to your dr & ask to try something else.

Kj1010 · 19/01/2021 12:12

Hi ladies question so I stopped bleeding pretty much after the first week then had a little every other day not enough to use a pad though I've been getting like period pains for few days and now have blood not heavy but need a pad my lo is 6 weeks would you class it as a period

Trufflepuffpuff · 19/01/2021 17:02

@kkr168 what medication is your son on now? My baby is really fussy at the moment but has times when she tries to play and be happy and then she'll cough something up and it sets her off. It's breaking my heart. She's on gaviscon which is ok but we can't use it with every feed, so it's not really solving the problem.

Pinktruffle · 19/01/2021 18:20

My LO had his jabs today. It wasn't too bad, he cried during the actual hand but I managed to calm him quickly. I got told off by the nurse for giving him Calpol before
hand but I think it was the right call. He had a little feed when we got back to the car and he was fine after that.

We are home now and he is fast asleep after a little play. Hopefully he stays well as he has been really difficult with his sleeping the last few days and I'm shattered. I don't know if I can choose with unwell baby on top of that. DH has the day of tomorrow though so still be able to help out a bit more.

peachypetite · 19/01/2021 18:21

@Pinktruffle make sure you go back to bed tomorrow afternoon for a long nap and let your husband take over. I’ve been told to bring calpol to the appointment for straight after not before.

Pinktruffle · 19/01/2021 18:28

@peachypetite I definitely will. DH is always telling me to nap during the day but I rarely take him up on it as I know he has work to do and will fall behind but I can do it guilt free tomorrow.

My best friend is a pediatric nurse and she said to give him Calpol an hour before his jab so that's what I did. The nurse giving the jab was a bit nonsensical, she told me off saying 'he may not get a fever so may not need it' and then followed up with 'this is the meningitis jab, he will get a fever with this so will need more Calpol'.

lc86 · 19/01/2021 18:48

@Trufflepuffpuff I really would recommend trying an anti reflux milk if your lo is formula fed, worked wonders for us xx
