I worry about the choking too as she has a mild silent reflux so I have heard her gulp and then gasp in her crib while sleeping and I was worried for days after always checking if she was breathing as soon as I woke up, not going to sleep until I was satisfied after a feed but babies are sick all the time and there natural reflex’s prevent choking on their vomit. I do try to make sure her heads to the side which she normal does herself anyway and a dummy when she goes down to keep her swallowing she doesn’t keep it for long while asleep. I spoke to my HV about it and she said reflux wasn’t really spoke about in her day and it doesn’t seem to bother my baby I thought it did at first but figured out it was actually wind so haven’t medicated it. Her bed times all over the place I just follow her lead but once she goes down she just wakes for feeds at night then goes back off she’s been like that since birth though x @Pinktruffle

Babyhope98 · 18/01/2021 04:45

I do sit up with her for like half and hour aswell to make sure her foods gone down and have inclined her basket seems to help @Pinktruffle

peachypetite · 18/01/2021 04:47

@Pinktruffle she has a bath every other day I’d estimate. My baby is being so noisy in her snuzpod tonight. She’s asleep but I keep waking up because she’s making sounds and moving about etc. Waiting a bit so o can feed her again ana hopefully she will go back to sleep for another three hours.

Jwl45 · 18/01/2021 05:38

Well our little one goes down in crib fine, 4 am feed .... When she goes back to crib she grunts and wriggles a lot. She is asleep but not as was before this time. I have been googling lol whilst feeding. It's quite normal apparently! She is asleep on my shoulder at the moment .... Husband said .. (after playing with her at 4am!!) I won't go back to sleep... I won't snore.... Lies!!! 🤣

Jwl45 · 18/01/2021 05:44

@Pinktruffle @Trufflepuffpuff not heard of those, will have a look! Bath wise- we are every other... Although nap/ feed time last night knocked that out the window so it will be tonight. No point bathing her last night as she wouldn't have enjoyed it! HV said at this stage they dont need too many baths as don't get dirty and will dry the skin.
Mine loves a bath.

It’s DH’s first day back at work today (wfh at least) so a bit apprehensive. I’ve not really slept, even though DS hasn’t been too bad.

He’s done 9-11 in his basket, 11-1.30 up with DH and then 2.45 till now asleep again. He’s just had a quick feed and is dozing next to me, so don’t want to risk a nappy change! Hopefully get him back into the crib for another couple of hours.

Think we will take it easy today! I’m also starting to think we need to bathe him more - we’ve done it twice in nearly three weeks! He does get a daily top and tail & also an almost daily wipe down when he pees on himself though Grin

kkr168 · 18/01/2021 07:44

My lo has been a pain the last 3 nights, up every 2 hours wanting milk, he's taking so long to settle that by the time he's fallen asleep it's almost time for his next feed. After his 4am feed he flat out refuses to sleep, he'll sit happily in his bouncer for about 15 mins, then we have fussiness & crying until he finally gives in to sleep, yesterday that was at 6am today he's still holding out, I'm exhausted!!! He's 7 weeks on Wednesday so hoping this is just a leap & that things improve soon, DH can't even help at the moment because he has covid symptoms (he's getting a test today) so we're avoiding him as much as physically possible.

peachypetite · 18/01/2021 07:53

@kkr168 I was experiencing that around the same time and think it was the leap. It’s so frustrating snd means you hardly sleep. Apparently it is normal for them to be noisy when they sleep, just hard for us!

Snowwhite2020 · 18/01/2021 08:32

Hi everyone, sorry not been on in a while. Things going much better here- were over 8 weeks now and she sleeps in 4-5 hour stints over night which is amazing as had a dreadful time with sleep up until 7 weeks. I agree with @NaomiB79 sleepsuit/ low lights/ white noise helps at the same time each night... she is ebf so no formula.

She had her jabs and I worked myself up about it as everyone says how unsettled they will be etc etc... it was totally fine for us! Do the baby paracetamol an hour before and then twice after at 4 hour intervals and otherwise she pretty much slept it off.

Enjoying it all much more now with more sleep xx

Snowwhite2020 · 18/01/2021 08:33

Also- c section here and I didn’t have a bath until 6 weeks as instructed. I was pretty scared of an infected wound (which didn’t happen) but think it would be pretty nasty if it did.

Trufflepuffpuff · 18/01/2021 09:13

@Pinktruffle she was up a lot last night, either feeding or with wind. I find it really hard to get back to sleep knowing she may just wake up again...

lc86 · 18/01/2021 09:31

@kkr168 I could have written your post myself! He'll be 7 weeks Friday so hopefully will pass soon 😴

EithneBlue · 18/01/2021 10:28

@Pinktruffle I googled this a lot because I have a vomity baby (who doesn't always vomit within 30 minutes of eating but randomly - not a concern because he's not bothered by it and is otherwise healthy) - they have a reflex that basically prevents them breathing it in: and as my husband pointed out, the human race would have died out if babies regularly choked on vomit. At night for me the risk of falling asleep whilst holding him is definitely higher than the risk of vomit so he goes straight back down after a post-feed nappy change at night :-)

ALSO. My son just slept for 6.5 hours. I thought all these posts about "longer sleeps" were a myth! I feel amazing (aside from the fact that I had milk everywhere when I woke up and had to grab the haaka to take an ounce out of the boob he didn't feed from when he first woke because it felt like a rock and was literally pouring milk). He did wake up screaming of starvation and downed my entire left boob (which he normally coughs and splutters on when it's that full) in 4 minutes flat before immediately sleeping again.

Trufflepuffpuff · 18/01/2021 10:50

@Pinktruffle @EithneBlue I also googled this as I had the same worry. Your DH is right!

Oh and @EithneBlue how old is your baby? Mine is nine weeks and the 4+ hrs still feels a way off! Hope it lasts for you! You must feel like a new woman Grin

EithneBlue · 18/01/2021 11:10

@kkr168 - we had that earlier this week - very hungry fussy baby, then suddenly a baby who learned how to smile and is trying to hold his head up and slept for hours!

peachypetite · 18/01/2021 11:24

@EithneBlue omg that’s amazing! Mine is 8 weeks and is waking every three hours at night.

Pinktruffle · 18/01/2021 14:30

@Babyhope98, @Trufflepuffpuff and @EithneBlue thank you for the reassurance ladies. It does make perfect sense what your DH said @EithneBlue, I will try to remind myself of that. I do sit up with my LO upright for half an hour after a night feed before putting him down but every noise makes me jump up so I'm not getting as much sleep as I could be getting.

@Jwl45 If you like the look of the Tripp Trapp, do check out Ebay as they are very expensive. I was happy to buy one on 2bat but DH was being a snob about it, I have bought some accessories on Ebay though and saved quite a lot. Some of them are even unused.

Kj1010 · 18/01/2021 14:56

Hi all can I ask when did use get the appointment for the 6 to 8 week checkup and did doctor weigh baby? My lo is 6 weeks today not heard nothing

MaverickDanger · 18/01/2021 15:00

I’m a couple of weeks off @Kj1010 but I know I have to call the GP here and book it myself. I’ve been told to make sure it’s face to face so that they can check my tear is healing/healed.

EithneBlue · 18/01/2021 15:02

He's 7 weeks tomorrow - might just be a one-off as his previous record was 4 hours (usually waking every 2 hours) but it was very nice! Just got back from our 6 week appointment - little fatty is now 10lb 4oz (birth weight was 6lb 15oz) - @Kj1010 mine was organised by the doctors surgery automatically when I registered him - maybe just give them a call and ask?

Jwl45 · 18/01/2021 15:02

@Kj1010 I had my letter before Christmas - she was 9 weeks old going. HV weighed her and measured her length. Doc came in checked her over completely....soft spot, eyes, ears, body , hips .
I had the letter for immunisation a couple of weeks ago. Both were on the same day.

Kj1010 · 18/01/2021 15:13

I rang the surgery to register him and I was told by receptionist that they will register him when I have my appointment which they will contact me to book but if I need anything they will see him also only had one call with hv pretty useless really not heard since from them my lo was last weighed at last appointment with midwife when he 10/11 days old and he went 7lbs 14 that's it not had one person contact see how we are doing

Pinktruffle · 18/01/2021 15:37

My GP said no to the 6 week check when I rang to ask. They did they arent doing them at the moment and if I've got any concerns, I should raise them with the nurse doing immunisations.

The lack of care most of us have gotten is disgusting really.

kkr168 · 18/01/2021 16:28

I was told to call & book my son's 6 week check, on calling I was told that the appointments were being merged with the 8 week jabs, to minimise appointments. They said they'd call me once the appointments were released, when they called they booked separate appointments, so they said one thing but did another!! We've also only seen the HV once since birth, I found my maternity care very good but my aftercare has been shocking.

peachypetite · 18/01/2021 16:31

@Pinktruffle that’s honestly a disgrace. They are meant to be making sure you’ve healed after the birth and aren’t suffering from PND as well as checking baby.
