Has anyone switched to anti reflux milk? The gaviscon doesn't seem to be helping much so considering changing his milk as can't cope with nights like we have been having

lc86 · 14/01/2021 18:18

@Pinktruffle I am 6 weeks pp, bleeding stopped around 4 weeks but then started again a few days later and still going. Sometimes a panty liner is enough but other times I need to use a sanitary towel xx

Trufflepuffpuff · 14/01/2021 18:26

@kkr168 what do the spots on his face look like? I've been wondering about CMPA with my DD but the HV doesn't seem to think it's likely as her nappies are fine and she's putting on weight. Did Tommy have any other symptoms?

@lc86 I've been wondering about trying anti reflux milk but my HV seems to think it's a con and I've heard it can cause constipation. We're using gaviscon too and not noticing much improvement.

Trufflepuffpuff · 14/01/2021 18:27

@Pinktruffle I'm nine weeks pp and mine hasn't yet, but I'm not breastfeeding and I think that can make a difference? Actually totally forgot about it.

lc86 · 14/01/2021 18:29

@Trufflepuffpuff he's already constipated on the gaviscon so going to keep giving the lactulose if we change milk and fingers crossed it won't affect him too much 🤞🏼 nightmare isn't it! x

kkr168 · 14/01/2021 19:00

@Trufflepuffpuff I've attached a picture that shows his face progressively getting worse. His other symptoms were reflux, lots of wind & diarrhea

@lc86 the Dr put my son on aptamil comfort milk for his reflux, it has helped massively, it's thick like the anti reflux milk so you need size 2 bottle teats. With the anti reflux milk you have to wait for it to thicken before feeding, whereas the comfort milk can be given straight away. It has caused constipation though.

Pinktruffle · 14/01/2021 19:03

@IC86 I'm fairly sure this is my period. My postpartum bleeding stopped just before Christmas as was quite different in appearance to this (maybe due to my c-section) but this is definitely red blood and my pp bleeding wasn't, I've also been getting my usual pre-period pains for the past few days.

@Trufflepuffpuff to be honest, I wasn't expecting it to come back so quickly! I have PCOS so usually have quite a long time between periods (usually about 40 days) so this is a suprise. I hope this means shorter cycles in the future.

kkr168 · 14/01/2021 19:03

@lc86 the comfort milk is available over the counter so I'm not sure why they didn't just tell me to buy it, rather then prescribe

lc86 · 14/01/2021 19:36

@kkr168 ah fab thank you!! Hope your lo is ok, not nice for you to see and not know what to do for the best with regards to the drs conflicting advice xx

Pinktruffle · 15/01/2021 01:07

After a couple of early good nights, my LO is being a pain in the arse again, my period has also gotten much heavier so just what I needed tonight. I'm dosed up on painkillers and trying to get LO to stay asleep and doing my best to stay awake myself.
The HV cane to see him early this morning and I had to wake him up a couple of times to feed him and get him dressed before she came, it disrupted his usual routine and I'm paying for it now.

peachypetite · 15/01/2021 03:26

@Pinktruffle that’s annoying. Did you find your HV helpful? Mine have been phone calls and I don’t like her.

Kj1010 · 15/01/2021 09:11

Wow use all seem to have regular contact with hv I've had 1 phone call and that's it

peachypetite · 15/01/2021 09:12

@Kj1010 I’ve only had two calls. Baby is 8 weeks.

Kj1010 · 15/01/2021 09:15

@Peachypetite oh really not great is it

peachypetite · 15/01/2021 09:24

I also don’t like the way (speaking to friends too) that they seem to base a lot of stuff on their own opinions and not NHS info. @Kj1010 no it isn’t. It’s an awful time to have had a baby. I was also quite shocked that oh my second call it wasn’t even video and she didn’t ask to see the baby, surely there are babies out there not being looked after properly and nobody would know.

kkr168 · 15/01/2021 09:25

Those that have been prescribed lactulose, do you use it daily or just when needed?
My lo was prescribed it yesterday, Dr said to give 2.5mg twice daily but didn't say how long to keep him on it.
He had his 1st dose last night & this morning he had a poo explosion, down both legs, up his back, it even soaked all the way through his bouncy chair 🤢 surely it can't have worked that quickly!! Now he's been do I stop giving him the medicine for now?

Kj1010 · 15/01/2021 09:35

@peachypetite exactly my thoughts my hv on my call just gave me another number for general inquiries and if I need anything to ring no other appointments made either for her to either ring me me or go to a clinic or come here

Jwl45 · 15/01/2021 09:43

I am shocked at these HV posts.... As you say, surely they should be seeing baby. We are very lucky here ... Baby is almost 9 weeks, HV came out 3 times to the house, has been on the end of the phone when I had mastitis... Was even arranging antibiotics to be delivered to me (but I'd already had a doc appointment so this wasnt needed) and I saw her in clinic on Wed. She's fantastic. Makes sure both me and baby are well . She has really looked after us and it's good to know there's a professional out there who's more than happy to answer any stupid questions I may have. 😊

MaverickDanger · 15/01/2021 09:53

I’m shocked too. I feel really lucky to have had brilliant support with midwives and now HV all the way through, despite lockdown.

All my appointments have been face to face & the HV has been twice so far (DS is 17 days old) and is coming again in 2 weeks.

That’s already more than my DSis has had from her HV and her DS is 5 months. It’s amazing to see the difference that geography has!

lc86 · 15/01/2021 10:17

@kkr168 dr said for us to give 2.5ml twice a day for as long as on the gaviscon, he said it takes 48 hours to work.. hate explosions of the nappy 🤦🏼‍♀️ hope lo felt better after though xx

lc86 · 15/01/2021 10:17

We saw health visitor for second time yesterday at 6 weeks and she said she won't see him now until 6 months! xx

Jwl45 · 15/01/2021 11:19

@lc86 Ours will be at our next immunisations in a month's time and the time after that.
Yes very different in different parts of the country I guess. I'm West Wales

lc86 · 15/01/2021 11:22

@Jwl45 we are South Wales. The nurse will do his vaccines, can't believe we don't have him weighed again for another 5 months! Though not concerned as he's 12lb 3oz at 6 weeks 🤣 normally they would have weekly clinics you can go to at the surgery but due to covid these aren't happening. It's fine for us as our 3rd baby but I can't imagine how I would feel if he was our first and I needed more support etc

peachypetite · 15/01/2021 14:09

Baby also hasn’t gained as much weight as she should but I am hoping now her tongue tie is fixed she will feed better.

Jwl45 · 15/01/2021 16:26

@lc86 6 months does seem too far away. ...he's a good weight . I'm sure they still do some sort of clinic here as she has happened to be with me mid morning and always tells me she has clinic that afternoon. It is strict and one out one in job it seems. Yes. Elsi is my third too... As a ftm I'd be really disappointed with that. (although things have changed so much since my other 2! They're teenagers🤣)
