@bumptobean mine will be a surprise too, I don’t know when I ovulated or had AF. I’m itching to find out.

Had referral letter through today from midwives Grin and 5mg folic acid prescription. Getting exciting.

Woohoo congrats @felicityheather

lilyj13 · 14/01/2021 13:21

This will be my 3rd, I have an 11yr and 7yr old,

Starting to get water mouth and slight taste buds have changed. I'm 4 weeks 5 days and on cyclizine and ondansatron for sickness

danigrace · 14/01/2021 14:10

Is anyone else considering forgoing the dating scan? Probably not 🙈
I know precisely the day I ovulated and conceived so that is as accurate as possible date wise and I don't feel the need to "have a look" personally.
There's a lot of debate in recent years about effect of ultrasound on developing baby but the WHO reviewed everything a while back and still determined it to be safe but did say there was an increase in left-handedness because of disruption to the developing fetal brain and they only recommend the necessary medical ultrasounds. Obviously left-handedness is not a problem at all but if there is an effect it makes my anxiety wonder what else is it potentially doing.
Obviously thousands of kids are born perfectly fine every day and whatever effect there is is likely to be tiny. BUT it has made me feel like why do it if there's no point in this particular instance?
If there is a medical need I will of course have a scan, but just don't see dating a pregnancy I'm certain on the dates for as a medical need.

Also completely understand and respect people choosing to have scans for their own personal reasons and wouldn't negatively judge or discourage this in any way, that's totally not what this is about. I strongly feel everyone should do what feels right to them and be supported in that.

I just wondered what others thoughts were on the topic? Xx

FTEngineerM · 14/01/2021 14:39

@danigrace interesting, I haven’t heard that before. They also check the Nuchal fold too? And a few other growth bits so it’s not solely dating at 12 weeks? Unless you mean one before the nhs one at 12 weeks?

danigrace · 14/01/2021 14:59

@FTEngineerM yes that is true I suppose, there's a couple of abnormalities that could be guestimated earlier than waiting for 20 week but nothing that could be done to ultimately change outcomes or anything like that so in a way could just make for a stressful few weeks whilst waiting to find things out for certain if that makes sense? Most developed countries only do an early scan if the woman has irregular cycles / is completely unsure of her dates.
I'm fully open to being challenged and may well be missing something - which is why I posted here(!) but at the moment just can't see the benefit. Think I'll probably chat about it at my booking appointment 🙂

bumptobean · 14/01/2021 15:59

I want my 12 week scan to see that baby is alive and the right size for 12 weeks personally, I think that would be important incase they have stopped growing etc, I would want to be aware of what would happen to best prepare x

Scotti84 · 14/01/2021 16:22

@felicityheather oh that’s awesome news, so pleased for you! Now you can put your mind at rest... on that side of things anyway!

I’m craving chips atm, with everything, had a few chips with gravy yesterday, now I want chips with Bolognese sauce... 🤷🏻‍♀️

bumptobean · 14/01/2021 16:31

Anyone having a constant ache in both hips/pelvis/ovary area? Definitely didn’t have this with my 1st!

2021mumma · 14/01/2021 16:57

Can I ask anyone else on cyclizine - been taking mine for a few days now it’s helping with sickness but god I feel so drowsy not helping wfh and sitting in long meetings zzzzzzzzz anyone had anything better?

Idreamof2more · 14/01/2021 16:59

I’ve just started taking it x

Scotti84 · 14/01/2021 17:19

@bumptobean yep I’ve had that for a while, eased off a bit now though. Had a bit of night pain in my hip bones and down the leg but everything seems to be ok with my little nugget so I think it’s down to everything moving about? I’m ‘old’ for my first at 36, so I assume I’m gonna feel more than younger women 😂

Jayjay1993 · 14/01/2021 17:52

Hello all! I just wanted to join and say hi! I’ve been testing for the last week and the tests are positive! It’s looking like 16th September DD. I am 5 weeks 1day today. I had a chemical/early MC last cycle and I’m so scared it’ll happen again. Last time I made it to 4w4d so I’m beating the record at the moment! It’ll be my first abs super scared to get happy incase it happens again - when do you think we can be happy? Xx

danigrace · 14/01/2021 17:58

@bumptobean yes I totally get that, that's something I'd rather not check on though personally, think it would just start sending my anxiety through the roof especially as nothing can ultimately be helped/changed.

Feeling the tiredness today... Did dinner an hour early and have brought my boys to bed a

danigrace · 14/01/2021 17:59

*an hour early... Hoping I don't live to regret it!!

danigrace · 14/01/2021 18:01

@Jayjay1993 congratulations!! The risk drops massively after the first trimester (12 weeks).

Equimum · 14/01/2021 18:18

Can I join please? Just found out that I am due 15th September. This is my third, and I already have a 5 & 8 year old. I am currently feeling a whole mix of emotions - anxious, terrified and, at the same time, very excited.
We have often thought about having a. Third, but never gone for it because of money, or DH travelling lots with work or something completely else. At the end of the summer we decided it was now or never and we would just see what happened, and here we are!

llemma · 14/01/2021 18:28

Just wanted to say hello here. I'm 6 weeks and have a 3 year old already.

FTEngineerM · 14/01/2021 18:32

@danigrace I just checked what it looks for:

Multiples
EDD
Growth
Location

I completely understand not wanting to get EDD confirmed if you know, you’re right it’s literally pointless.

The ‘growth’ part of the above checks for abnormalities, some of which are things that may affect baby later in life but some are very serious conditions like Anencephaly.

There’s no challenge from me though because it’s up to each of us to decide what’s best for us and our situation, I’ll have it. Definitely talk to the midwife, you’ve got a good few weeks to decide too, no rush.

Side note: holy shit I’d wanna know ASAP if I was having twins so I could save.

FTEngineerM · 14/01/2021 18:34

@Scotti84 that is not old!! Grin

danigrace · 14/01/2021 19:19

@FTEngineerM haha thanks ❤️ yes I totally understand that, and also get why it's the common point of view. I think I'm definitely an outlier in feeling like if it can't be changed I'd rather not know as it would prolong worry of something that's inevitable. If it was something that could be "cured" in utero I'd feel entirely differently.
Re. multiples, we would love twins 😂 would be pretty obvious there was more than one in there as the pregnancy progressed though!!

I think I'm like this generally in life though, love surprises, always baffled me friends who would hunt for their Christmas gifts etc, love reading a book or watching a film that I have no idea at all what it's about not even the genre (I'm lucky that my DH sets things up for me like that that he thinks I'll enjoy!). And unless there is a benefit to the health of baby I'd rather not know in advance what's going on in there... As long as I'm pregnant I'll take it as a good sign and in time when I can feel kicks I'll know it must have a heartbeat!! I think I would check for anomalies at 20 week scan with this one only because we have two small boys already so extra time in hospital etc would have an impact on them.

This has reminded me how excited I am to start to feel those first tiny fluttering movements 🥰🥰🥰
I can't remember when you first start to feel them?? Is it around 15 weeks?

Hopefulmummie · 14/01/2021 19:19

Can anyone offer advice... I had a call from a midwife earlier as I done my self referral yesterday and noted that this pregnancy was straight after miscarriage so she was wanting to try work out my dates.
I told her I knew when I ovulated which would make me 4 weeks and my clear blue said 2-3 weeks today
I asked her did she think I would be 4 weeks then and she said no probably under that if clear blue saying 2-3.

I was confused as know you add on 2 weeks to get your dating?

MrsMcNtobe · 14/01/2021 20:04

@Hopefulmummie this confuses me too because the instructions for the clearblue digitals TELL you to add 2 weeks? So 2-3 would be 4-5 weeks?

danigrace · 14/01/2021 20:10

@Hopefulmummie if you know when you ovulated then go with it - you can't get more accurate than that. The midwives are overworked atm and trying to get through all the calls etc - I told mine the day of my last period but that I ovulated on day 21 of the cycle making it a 35 day cycle - she said right so you're 6+1 today and I said no 5+1, it's exactly 7 days different because I ovulated day 21 not 14 and she said "oh of course that's right sorry excuse me" then a few minutes later went on to say right so you will be 9+2 at your booking appointment.... When actually I'll be 7+2 - she went the wrong way with the 7 days 🙈🙈🙈 I said nothing - I'll properly explain when at the appointment 😂😂

Lumay92 · 14/01/2021 20:10

Hey guys - I know I'm a bit late to the thread but I only just found this one!

This will be our first, I am 7 weeks and due at the very beginning of September - super excited as was starting to think it might never happen!

Congrats to everyone here :-)

Hopefulmummie · 14/01/2021 20:20

@danigrace haha I know I didn't want to have to try explain it to her. She did say my scan would be middle of march which would be right as I'll be 12 weeks then though she give me a due date of end of sept//start of October but calculators showing 21st.
I'll just leave it until I have an appointment

Unfortunately they won't give me an early scan so going to book a private one for around 7 weeks
