Hi everyone,
just hoping to get as many people in one thread as possible. More scope for sharing knowledge, concerns or worries. Wishing everyone the best of luck on this journey.
When I've a minute I will try and tag everyone across the three threads.

@Firegirl35 mine was also £110, I've not had it yet but they've told me they'll try external first and if they can't see anything it will be an internal scan. I don't mind smears or anything so I'm quite relaxed either way 😊

For registering with the midwives, I called up my GP and they asked if they knew which hospital I'd like to give birth in, and as I did they said just to register there, which I did online. The hardest bit was digging out my NHS number! I got a letter a week or two later with dates for my booking appointment and 12 week scan.

firsttimemumm31 · 20/12/2020 20:11

@Firegirl35 - Hey I'm a first time single mum 👋🏻

You never know what anyone's reaction will be, think positive 😊

Always around if you need to chat

Alittlexmasmagic · 20/12/2020 20:37

@Firegirl35 it varies person to person. It was probably a good week before I could comfortably roll out of bed unassisted whereas others are up and about in no time. The biggest factor is driving, you can't drive until you can comfortably do an emergency stop and some insurers might have their own regs on it. As I'll need to do nursery runs etc. I really need to be driving x

@biscuitcat (great name!) Where on earth do you find your nhs number I’ve not got a clue what mine is! I’m assuming the GP would have it?! Good that you knew where you wanted to go, I don’t actually know which hospital but I don’t think I have much choice there, just a local one. It’s scary as covid is rampant in my county, but maybe by summer it will be more under control?!! Fingers crossed...
if they only do you at 12weeks I might get a private, as if I start planning things for a baby that is covid’Ed out then it’s a waste of time and heartache

Firegirl35 · 20/12/2020 20:46

@firsttimemumm31 oh hi!!!! What’s your story? What part of the country are you in? Hope it’s treating you well so far, I’ve got bad sickness and fatigue. Stretchmarks (LOL) but I do have anti sickness pills prescribed so see how it goes...

Firegirl35 · 20/12/2020 20:48

@Alittlexmasmagic okay gotcha. I doubt I would need to be driving much- first couple months I’m expecting to be house bound with some walks thrown in LOL. And OH (or delivery driver) can get food shop. It’s my first so I don’t have a LO to take to nursery /school

Dogsandbabies · 20/12/2020 21:04

@Firegirl35 I have had two sections. The first was emergency and it was fine. I was up and about abs pretty pain free within a week. The second was elective and it was terrible. I got an infection and it took me months to feel normal. It is usually the other way around! In all honesty if I could do it all again I would have tried a VBAC the second time. I am dreading the third section!

Nimie · 20/12/2020 21:30

I had an EMCS with my first one he's now 2. The first few days were quite bad for me, couldn't lie on the bed without having major pains while getting up. It took 2 weeks at min for me to feel somewhat normal. Luckily I had family around so managed to get plenty of rest, but with this pregnancy hoping to avoid a CS as we have moved a little further and not much family close by.

Crossfitgirl · 20/12/2020 21:30

Hi guys, I'm new to this thread is it OK to join?
Due Aug 29th with my second.
I'm 33,married and have a 16 month old DD already. X

BertieBotts · 20/12/2020 22:06

Welcome Crossfitgirl, Smurf, Ame and Jessi.

So sorry to hear your news, Bored.

I was discussing childcare for DS2 the other day for labour and joked to DH that it would be easier to have a c-section! I am a bit worried about it TBH as my last two labours were mega long and DS2 has never ever been anywhere without one of us for longer than 3 hours, which is as long as we ever got at nursery in 3 months Confused plus with travel restrictions etc. Argh I'm a bit anxious about it already! Can just envisage myself giving birth all alone because DH has to stay at home with the other kids :(

Internal scans are fine. I had loads last time. My first appointment/scan is tomorrow morning, eek! I am getting nervous again. DH isn't allowed to come in, but he's going to give me a lift and hopefully I'll be allowed to make a video of the scan if all is well. If I don't forget D:

BertieBotts · 20/12/2020 22:08

Oh and congrats on the scan, Jessica :)

Firegirl35 · 20/12/2020 22:31

Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences of CS’s and scans, it really helps. At 35 and my first baby, with no babies in my friends group or family so im a fish out of water lol.
It’s the unknowns that are hard to deal with re: birth, especially when you’re a planner!!! Set a reminder to take a scan video!!

Pika93 · 20/12/2020 23:26

@coffeeandrainbows1

Hi everyone! I’ve been reading and following but thought I may as well just join in! I’ve had two previous miscarriages just before my 12 week scans and have been trying for baby no 2 for 3 years! Finally pregnant again now and went for a private scan yesterday to figure out dates so I am 5w 6d :) At the scan, she asked me to come back in 2 weeks as she was unsure if there’s actually two baby’s! (My paranoid brain is wondering if it was a bleed she could see as it was like a foggy shadow in the corner!) but I’m thinking she wouldn’t ask me to come back in 2 weeks if she thought that. However, we did see the heartbeat which I read on here is early so that was super lucky :) but we are so confused over the twin bit as we both don’t have twins in our families and never have so it’s never been something I’ve ever thought about! Has anyone had this on a scan before or had twins without ever having twins in the family?! Xxx
@coffeeandrainbows1 we have had this exact situation had our scan Wednesday saw one heartbeat and sonography rays thinks there is another one measuring a couple of days behind so no visible heartbeat yet, we are booked in for another scan on 9th Jan to find out, neither of us have twins in our family either, although we had a surgical managed miscarriage in October and we have a friends who also had this and got pregnant 1 month later with twins as well

Top picture shows where baby 2 is (no heartbeat) bottom one is baby 1 with a heart beat, both are attached to the same egg sac

coffeeandrainbows1 · 20/12/2020 23:47

@Pika93 oh wow yes! That’s what ours looked like but didn’t get a scan photo but it was a foggy bean shape bopping from the side which made her notice but she couldn’t get a clear enough view to see if it had a heartbeat too. How far are you? We have a scan with her again on the 30th to find out but I’m already using the ‘I might be eating for 3’ excuse whilst I can 😂

Pika93 · 20/12/2020 23:56

@coffeeandrainbows1 that scan was 5+6 so we are now 6+3 (6+4 in 5 minutes)

coffeeandrainbows1 · 21/12/2020 00:12

@Pika93 oh fab! We’re 6+3 over here now! You’ll have to let us know how your next scan goes and if there’s two little un’s in there! Xxx

Asher2021 · 21/12/2020 01:46

Is anyone else having constant mild cramping? I'm 5 weeks 6 days and from the get go have been having mild AF type cramps every single day, for most of the day.
Had no bleeding but sometimes it's a stronger sharp pain but not enough to actually be painful. Anyone know what this could be? Surely way too early to be uterus growing! Xx

Kinsters · 21/12/2020 01:58

Waiting for my early scan now, more bleeding this morning and quite red blood so I'm a bit nervous. Just want to know either way.

Kinsters · 21/12/2020 03:21

Saw the gestational sac but it's small and can't see the yolk sac or embryo yet. I'm very early though so it's not necessarily bad news. No obvious cause for the bleeding at least!

Jessicapebbles · 21/12/2020 05:52

@BertieBotts Thanks x

firsttimemumm31 · 21/12/2020 06:21

@Firegirl35 I'm in Nottingham so East Midlands. Basically I had a little too much fun in lockdown! father isn't interested so I'm doing it alone. I'm 31 and got divorced last year so a lot has changed in a year! I was told some years ago now that I wouldn't be able to have children and so I see this as a bit of a blessing. I had an early scan at 6 weeks and there was a heartbeat and I have awful sickness and fatigue but that's fine with me everything is worse for me in the evenings. My first midwife appointment is on Wednesday morning and I'm 8 weeks today!

olderthanyouthink · 21/12/2020 06:58

Hi, i feel behind on the other thread but just spotted this one. I'm a bit all over the place atm so barely skimmed the thread

Due 1st August, already have DD who is 2.

@BertieBotts I'm half thinking DD will just stay with us (planning a home birth) and maybe I can get a neighbour or local friend to take her in an emergency, she isn't really familiar with anyone unfortunately due to this year but family who she's happy with could get her in about an hour

BertieBotts · 21/12/2020 07:47

Asher - could be round ligament pain? That's normal and harmless at this stage.

I can't have a home birth unfortunately, it's very hard to find a midwife who does them in Germany, plus I live in a flat! And not that close to hospital if there was an emergency.

Firsttime/Fire you'll be great Smile I was brought up just by my mum, I was a single mum for a year with DS1 and some of my friends are single parents. It's hard but so rewarding and the relationship you have if it's just the one child is really special I think. Single mums are superstar warriors.

Nimie · 21/12/2020 09:26

Morning all! Hope you are all doing well this on day morning. I have my first midwife appointment this morning for the usual blood tests. As I missed a period in November, but ovulated end of November they think I might be further along🙈 but I'm pretty sure on the dates I ovulated and dtd so hopefully will have a scan soon to confirm.

biscuitcat · 21/12/2020 09:51

@Firegirl35 yes the GP should have it, or if you have the NHS app then it'll be on there too! I've had babies on the brain for a while so had done some research about hospitals! Where I am covid seems OK at the moment, but surrounded by some very high areas! I'm keeping fingers crossed the vaccine does the job and by summer all will be OK, it's a very strange situation of just now knowing isn't it?
