Hi everyone,
just hoping to get as many people in one thread as possible. More scope for sharing knowledge, concerns or worries. Wishing everyone the best of luck on this journey.
When I've a minute I will try and tag everyone across the three threads.

bananas I feel exactly the same. I feel so much worse than my last 2 pregnancies as well and I'm so bored of it.

Winter we have an elevated risk of a rare genetic condition called Angelman Syndrome so I want a very specific NIPT that can detect it - Panorama (not sure if available in UK) and it has to be their most expensive variant D: When we were expecting DS2 it cost about €600 and we only found out about it quite late on, our doctor wouldn't refer so we didn't get it. It's now €479, which is still quite a lot. I don't know whether we'll go for it anyway if they do cover it, because we'll have to pay upfront and get reimbursed and it's quite a lot of money and we're worried we might have to get legal support to sort out Brexit related stuff so it's not the best timing. However I think it might be worth it for peace of mind, especially if we will get the money back.

WinterBabyof89 · 10/01/2021 17:00

@BertieBotts I hadn’t heard of it so had a look on the NHS website. I can see why you’d want to access testing to know, and if you get it back it’s not too bad. Hopefully your insurance company approve it.
Hope Brexit isn’t affecting you too drastically (although I know it is some people)

PurplePansy05 · 10/01/2021 17:14

Panorama is available in the UK privately, in my area it costs £450 and results take 2 weeks. I'll have it done too for peace of mind, subject to another positive scan next week.

Thisisbananas3 · 10/01/2021 17:55

@WinterBabyof89 it’s so true what you say about the cold comment! And thank you for the nice message. It really isn’t fun is it? I’m so thankful I am working from home, I genuinely don’t know how people go into work everyday? Think that’s what makes me feel useless. Everyone seems to get on with it fine!
My husband keeps saying it’s only for a few weeks/it’s not forever... easy for him to say lol!

@ItsPrincesspeach sorry you’re feeling bad too. The sickness tablets may as well be sleeping tablets, they’re horrible! I’m nearly 10 weeks too and got everything crossed it goes at 12 weeks...

@BertieBotts sorry to hear you’re also feeling crap!

Feeling less alone now!

Also totally with you all with the brown food, my husband keeps saying I need eat healthier but anything vaguely green smells awful. I’m ok on fruit really surviving on toast, salt and vinegar crisps (chipsticks!) and ice lollies!!!

olderthanyouthink · 10/01/2021 18:43

@BertieBotts I have a bump but I think it's more bread than baby. Can't do my jeans up, keep asking DP to help me get my bigger ones down...

BananaHammock23 · 10/01/2021 19:22

Soo glad I'm not alone in the beige food eating! All I want is what's bad for me - sweets, crisps and biscuits. Normally I have no prob getting my 5 a day and usually have way more, but veg just isn't doing it for me now.

@Miniheart I had my pre-booking appointment face to face (just taking blood and doing a urine sample), I wasn't allowed to take anyone but I wouldn't really want to. Then I had the actual booking appointment over the phone, so my partner was there but it was very boring so don't think she was that bothered! As @Alittlexmasmagic said, it's just lots of boring questions about family history tbh! I'm only consultant led because I had IVF and have a family history of blood clots and DVT. I was impressed with the detail the midwife went into and she was particularly kind about previous mental health issues.

Littlejayx · 10/01/2021 19:52

I’m also on the dreaded anti sickness tablets after losing two stone due to constant vomiting 😩 does anyone else feel like a unmotivated zombie on them? I changed the bedding and had a nap 😴

Thisisbananas3 · 10/01/2021 20:19

I think we all just need to eat what we can!

@Littlejayx 2 stone?! You poor thing, I lost 4 kilos so can’t imagine that! Is the sickness still boring you? The tablets are horrible, totally knock me out, I’ve been prescribed different tablets now but won’t start til next week. So yes, unmotivated zombie... tbf that’s probably how I’d describe the entire pregnancy so far lol

Littlejayx · 10/01/2021 20:38

@Thisisbananas3 yes two stone 😩 if I wasn’t pregnant I’d be happy haha

The sickness has stopped on these tablets touch wood, but the zombie mode is hard isn’t it! Least it isn’t far till the second trimester where it calms down ( in my experience) let’s hope!

buckingmad · 10/01/2021 21:09

I’m 12 weeks today, got my scan on Tuesday. It’s been a few days now since I last was sick but I’m still off most food. Same as others, gone off meat and veg. Living off chips and crisps. Feel really unmotivated for work too and absolutely dread work at the moment. Think because I feel sick and staring at a screen all day makes it worse.

I’m starting to get a little bump which is a bit earlier than I was expecting as it’s my first but I am very petite so guess there’s no where really for it to hide! I’ve been really bloated up until now and that has been my whole stomach area whereas now this bump is very neat.

LyraShaeLilly · 10/01/2021 21:24

Hi All

FTM and also due late August (I think).

I am 6+4 as my early scan on Friday showed, there was a heartbeat and I am so relieved that everything is ok as I was admitted to hospital on xmas eve with pregnancy related pains so have had a pretty rough Christmas. I then needed to self isolate on discharge which ended on the day lockdown started.

Very anxious FTM, as I have no idea what is normal or not, back to work tomorrow after resting since xmas.

Only close family know and MIL and Mum haven’t been pregnant in 30 years so its nice to share experiences with people going through the same.

Wishing everyone all the best with their upcoming scans and tests. Xx

Thisisbananas3 · 10/01/2021 22:49

Weird how so many of us are off meat and veg? I can’t stand tea any more either.

@buckingmad aw I’m jealous! My clothes much tighter round the stomach but it’s definitely bloat for me sadly! Stretchy clothes for you :)

@LyraShaeLilly welcome and congratulations! I am also a ftm who has no idea what is normal or not so am very appreciative for this thread, lots of knowledgeable and supportive ladies. Glad to hear your scan went well, hopefully gave you some peace of mind! :)

MrsB2019x · 10/01/2021 23:21

Ironic how all the info sources say greasy/fried food makes nausea worse but eating anything that isn’t beige is seeming to set all our nausea off?! What’s with that 🤨

afictionado · 11/01/2021 01:32

Hi, can I join? I've been lurking for a while but have been too nervous to post as I've had miscarriages in the past (the most recent late last year) and I have a higher likelihood of miscarriage anyway due to being a carrier for gene translocation. I think @BertieBotts you said your husband also has this?

I'm currently partway through my fourth pregnancy (I have one DS) and had a bit of a scare as had some spotting on Saturday night. Went for a scan today and all looks fine except measuring 6 days behind at 8.3 instead of 9.2 weeks. That puts my new EDD at the 20th of August. Really hoping everything goes smoothly until the 12 week scan, which is now a month away. 😭 My symptoms have also subsided a bit over the last couple of days so instead of enjoying it of course I'm wracked with anxiety.

LyraShaeLilly · 11/01/2021 11:52

How do you know that the date on the scan is wrong, as even if your cycles are regular you may not ovulate on the same day every month (or do you?) and also fertilisation may not occur on the day of ovulation?

Just really curious as to how you are all so sure of dates before 12 week scan or think the scan dates are wrong, I was 5 days out but my periods range from 28 to 45 days? So I my scan is the most accurate?

Also heard some statements in other threads about NHS mat care not being that good - I work for the NHS and the NHS care I received on xmas day was outstanding!! So not sure what this is relating to as I wouldn't want to be in the care of anywhere else? Not really asking for horror stories as I don't wanna be freaked out but your previous opinions of care may be helpful?

Alittlexmasmagic · 11/01/2021 12:09

@LyraShaeLilly I'm just using the projected date off my last period as a start point, then waiting for the 12wk scan for an accurate one. Scans earlier than that can be a good indicator but the baby is tiny so there's a lot of room for error.
Maternity care I think depends a lot on your local trust. I have no issues with mine and when it mattered, I received some outstanding care. Yes, sometimes/often left hand didn't talk to right hand, which was frustrating but for the most part I've no concerns.x

Thisisbananas3 · 11/01/2021 12:22

@afictionado congratulations! Sorry for your previous losses but wish you a healthy pregnancy! I have no words of wisdom for anxiety I’m afraid but this is a very supportive thread!

As to dates, I went my by LMP date and have regular 28 day cycles (like clockwork for the last 6 years) My private scan put me forward a few days, working back from the new date there’s no way I could have got pregnant at the date they say I conceived because we didn’t DTD til 3 days later. Early scans aren’t always accurate so hopefully it will be confirmed at my 12 week scan, which was always going to be at 13 weeks using my LMP but with my new date will put me at 14 weeks! Feels like a long wait!

BertieBotts · 11/01/2021 14:17

Ovulation date can vary, implantation can also take longer and push you a couple of days over or under what makes sense. I think it's supposed to be accurate to within about a week by early scans (pre 12 weeks) which is pretty amazing if you think about it. 28-45 days is irregular for periods. Mine vary by up to about 4-5 days which is considered regular. But when I tracked ovulation it was always early (day 10-13). We think DS2 was a week ahead of where they said last time, and he did come a week early.

I think NHS maternity care is very good in general. I think some people prefer it to be a bit more hands on, but I quite like the hands off approach unless someone has a reason to be higher risk. It's less anxiety inducing IMO.

Yes my husband has a balanced translocation. We have had early miscarriages before but mainly we have long periods where we don't conceive at all. His breaks are big so I think it's at such a point the egg just gets rejected before implantation. Have you come across the FB groups for balanced translocation? I'm not in them any more but used to find them very informative and reassuring. I also found it reassuring to use a doppler last time between about 10 weeks and feeling movement. Just be sure to put it away once you get to viability.

I've been able to cope with coffee the last few mornings :)

Magik01 · 11/01/2021 15:24

I’m currently 9+2 according to my calculations, but have yet to hear anything about the 12 week scan or any contact from any midwife! Is this normal?

I rang the midwife team as soon as I found out early December and informed them of the pregnancy but haven’t heard anything since. I’ve been phoning daily to try and get an update but no one will answer at all. Confused

Thisisbananas3 · 11/01/2021 15:47

@Magik01is calling the mid wife tesm the self referral process for your trust? I googled my trusts maternity centre and completed a self referral form which I had to email in. (I was 5 weeks at the time) they got back to me a few days later for my first midwife appt (booked for 10 weeks) and a week later my scan was booked in (14 weeks). If you can’t get through by phone would you have an email contact? If still no joy I’d probably to call your GP and see if they can help.

Magik01 · 11/01/2021 16:50

@Thisisbananas3 yes that’s how you self refer in my trust, it’s the number my doctor told me to ring. Tried ringing a few different t numbers today all to be told to ring the number I’ve been ringing constantly Envy no email address unfortunately!

PurplePansy05 · 11/01/2021 16:51

@Magik01 I am 9+2 too and yet to hear back from the midwives. I completed a form online two weeks ago, sent it back and silence. Will be chasing again first thing tomorrow. I'd ring your GP, in my area they're community midwives and in non-covid times GPs do referrals BUT now maybe it's the case there's a different number/email you need to contact them on and GP should tell you. I'd also check your local health board/trust website, perhaps there's an update there?

PurplePansy05 · 11/01/2021 16:53

I had another scan at the Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic today and very happy to report my rainbow baby Purple still doing very well, measuring good and strong heartbeat 💜🌈 A huge relief for now xx
