Hi everyone,
just hoping to get as many people in one thread as possible. More scope for sharing knowledge, concerns or worries. Wishing everyone the best of luck on this journey.
When I've a minute I will try and tag everyone across the three threads.

@PurplePansy05 thank you! You've given me a whole new perspective with this advice! We're strong mama's for sure. Regarding an early scan, I don't know if I should to be honest... I'm trying to distant myself from this pregnancy so I don't get painfully attached

PurplePansy05 · 23/12/2020 07:55

@haidri You do what is right for you re early scan. I know the feeling you've described very well from previous pregnancies and I understand where you're coming from 100%. I would say that there is a fair bit of research suggesting that with previous history of MC, early scans may have a positive, reassuring impact on the pregnancy which in turn may improve the outcomes. This is because obviously our starting position is far more anxious than someone who has never been through baby loss, and this may help you with reaching a better balance. Tommy's are looking into this and this is also the reason why Recurrent Miscarriage Clinics offer early scans as standard (which is what I've had now). Secondly, and I mean in a gentlest possible way, if it's bad news, it's gentler on your body and mind to manage the MC earlier, from experience. You will also likely bounce back sooner and be able to TTC again if that is what you wish. So there are some benefits, but of course the scan is only accurate at the time when it's made, so will never offer 100% guarantee that the pregnancy will be fine going forward. You may well feel that you'd rather not know and wait, which is totally understandable too, I did it once myself as well. It's a bit of a lottery, but we can't project the past onto the future 💐 xxx

haidri · 23/12/2020 08:06

@PurplePansy05 you're right, perhaps having an earlier scan will enable me to have something to hold onto. I just hope I just reach the 12 week mark and everything goes smoothly.

Did you have recurrent scans in between 12 - 20 weeks too?

PurplePansy05 · 23/12/2020 08:16

@haidri I haven't got that far yet, but considering I had 3 consecutive losses and am under consultant care, I suspect that there will be a couple of additional scans later throughout the pregnancy, probably at 16, yes, but I'll tell you more when I cross that bridge. Xxx

haidri · 23/12/2020 08:33

@PurplePansy05 wishing you luck, and sending you lots of strength throughout your pregnancy!

PurplePansy05 · 23/12/2020 09:55

Thanks @haidri, best of luck to you too 😊

tiinab · 23/12/2020 13:12

I feel like taking all my words back on not being affected by the morning sickness that badly and just having it after eating.. I am fighting now with myself not to throw up and sipping cold water to see if that helps me.
Also my back is bothering me today now aswell, nothing major but muscles are just tight and can't go to a massage like I would normally do when it happens. Might see if I can see my osteopath after Christmas though. Just wish massage places would be allowed to stay opened in tier 4 as this is a pain relief treatment for most people.

BertieBotts · 23/12/2020 15:11

Are they not allowed if it's for medical reasons? That's a shame.

biscuitcat · 23/12/2020 15:41

@Firegirl35 I'm so sorry to hear it didn't go how you hoped - how has today been for you?

I had my early scan today, and luckily all seems to be looking well, it's so surreal seeing a little heartbeat!

tiinab · 23/12/2020 16:48

@BertieBotts

Are they not allowed if it's for medical reasons? That's a shame.
Just a regular massage place does not go under medical treatment it goes under beauty. But I think the massage guy at my osteopaths clinic is opened if over the phone he confirms it is needed for pain releaf
PurplePansy05 · 23/12/2020 17:49

Is back massage allowed in the first trimester? I thought it was not recommended? Or is it certain types that aren't recommended due to pressure points?

Opal99 · 23/12/2020 18:38

@PurplePansy05 back massage is fine throughout I think, I had a special mum to be one wi DH my last which was lovely! And they did a class on it for an antenatal session but at that session they said to avoid foot massage though because of pressure points apparently bringing on labour. Not sure about that though, surely if that were true they'd be telling us to have daily foot massages once you're over dates.

Opal99 · 23/12/2020 18:40

@PurplePansy05 I've realised it could be someone said that because you can't lay on your front but most places if told will let you sit on a chair backwards to do your back.

Champson · 23/12/2020 18:41

Hi everyone

Excited to be joining you all on here. It’s been a long old road for us - I had breast cancer five years ago at age 32, and did embryo preservation at the time with my DH. We got the go ahead this year for me to come off my medication to try, which happened in Feb. It took until Sept to get a period and we used our only two surviving embryos in a FET IVF round in Dec. And I got a BFP about a week ago and am terrified!!!! And obviously excited but trying not to get too excited yet. It was implanted 4 Dec so the apps say that puts me at 5 weeks and 2 days.

Supposed due date is Aug 22, 2021 and we have a scan with the IVF clinic on 5 January so I’m sitting on eggshells until then. This is my first time being pregnant. Feels weird even saying that. Having some nausea and fatigue but apparently the IVF progesterone pessaries lessen the symptoms. Anyway, very grateful to have found a bunch of lovely ladies to freak out with!!!

Xx

I thought as long as they avoid the few points on your feet it is okei. This has been my plan to go for weekly/bi weekly foot massages at some point as know a few great places in london and even while not pregnant they always ask from women if they are expecting.
I did have a full body massage a few weeks back already as had a feeling there will be a harsher lockdown soon and it had been a while since my last massage. Probably wouldn't go to my local Chinese place now though as I don't know if they know much about pregnancy massage but my osteopaths clinic does special pregnancy massages.

PurplePansy05 · 23/12/2020 19:43

Yeah that's what I meant, I don't think you can lie on your tummy in pregnancy and yes re feet I think there are points stimulating shedding the lining/ovulation which should be avoided. I love a full body massage and had one when I was ovulating and then had my BFP actually, clearly relaxed me 🤣 But as you say, in pregnancy I think only the specialist pregnancy massage. My masseuse doesn't offer any at all in the first trimester, only from the second trimester from what she told me xx

I am gonna text my osteopath after Christmas and ask her as the discomfort I know is 80% my sleeping position and 20% other factors. It is mostly mid back and it usually happens if I twist myself funny while sleeping. I still sleep partially on my stomach I am pretty sure 😂
Croselle · 23/12/2020 22:08

Had my early scan today, saw my little squishy bean with a good heartbeat! So relieved but still so much worry to go through in keeping it safe and hoping it continues to grow!

6.5 weeks, due 13th August

Threecouldbefour · 24/12/2020 02:50

Just to update - I went for my scan this morning and unbelievably things were looking just fine! The heart rate was about double of what it was a week ago and you could see little limbs developing. I was moved forwards a few days so was 8+3 with a due date of 1st August. I just didn't believe it. I was so sure it wouldn't be good news after all I had read that I didn't even dare to hope a little bit. It explains why I'm still feeling so nauseous and tired! I had my booking in and bloods done whilst I was there and they booked 12 week scan.

I know I'm very lucky and I'm so sorry for those who don't receive good news (I've been there too) but I thought I'd just share this. Annoyingly, I pressed 'hide this thread' and now I can't see it anywhere so have to keep going back to my original post asking if there was an August thread so I can use the link! Any ideas how to unhide a thread would be appreciated!

Threecouldbefour · 24/12/2020 02:53

@Champson congratulations! What a rollercoaster for you. Ask lots of questions - it's so mind blowing the first time around. Xx

Destineyy · 24/12/2020 04:53

Hey everyone!! New to this whole thing! I’m 29 will be 30 on dec 31😩😂! I’m due on August 23 by my calculations about 5 weeks 3 days! A little about me I’m married with one son and two step sons! I’ve had 2 previous m-c and 1 Etopic in July of this year🥲. Test positive last week called ob went in today had early ultrasound it’s a inuterine pregnancy but the mentioned my gestational sac is measuring at 4 weeks! I was so relieved about it being in the correct place I didn’t question🤦🏻‍♀️. There is a sac and a yolk sac. Now my pregnancy symptoms seem to be lessening. Just nervous after so many losses any advice 🤔

@Threecouldbefour it's in customise which you can now only reach through the desktop site. If you only use on mobile it may be worth emailing mnhq to see if they can do it manually for you?
