Blighted ovum

Hi all
I recently discovered at 12 weeks that I had a blighted ovum pregnancy and miscarried last week. Naturally we are devastated but would like to try again as soon as my period returns. Could anyone advise if this has happened to them and they have then gone on to have successful pregnancies? Looking for some success stories to lift my mood!!
Thank you x

Sorry to hear about your experience.
Flowers
Didn't have a blighted ovum but a MC in December and now finally pregnant (almost 24 weeks) and all is well so far.
Don't get disheartened if it doesn't happen straight away but don't lose hope, it will happen.
Wishing you all the best x

Hi @Mwilliams31 sorry for your loss. I experienced a blighted ovum last November. Fell pregnant again in January. Sadly that ended in another miscarriage but I am now 27 weeks pregnant with a baby girl 🥰 allow yourself some time to grieve and stay positive ☺️

Meredithgrey1 · 10/12/2020 19:45

So sorry for your loss.
I had a blighted ovum, discovered at about 8 weeks following some bleeding.
I got pregnant very soon after and now have 18 month old DD.

@Mwilliams31 so sorry to hear that. I had a blighted ovum and went on to have a successful pregnancy. I read the book starts with the egg after it happened and it helped

TobysMum16 · 10/12/2020 20:04

My first pregnancy was a blighted ovum. I fell pregnant again 2 months later and had my first little boy. I fell pregnant again when he was 20 months and had a second son. No further miscarriages or issues with the pregnancies.
Take time to grieve, but don’t give up hope. Smile

Mother2princess · 10/12/2020 20:21

Yes I'm now 18 weeks pregnant after my blighted ovum in July this year

BeeMakesTea · 10/12/2020 20:33

Sorry to hear this. I had a blighted ovum earlier this year, also discovered at my 12 week scan. Didn’t miscarry naturally so had to have surgical management- this was at the start of June. I’m now 19 weeks pregnant (so conceived in August) and all going fine so far. Take the time you need to grieve, but once you’re ready there’s no reason you shouldn’t have a successful pregnancy.
Wishing you all the best x

Hi OP,

So sorry you're going through this. I had a blighted ovum diagnosed in October last year and the miscarriage finished in November. I'm now 19 weeks pregnant with DD1.

Sending you lots of love xx

babychange12 · 10/12/2020 20:58

I had a blighted ovum in March 2019, fell pregnant again in June and DS2 is now 9 months.

Sorry for your loss Thanks

InDreamland · 10/12/2020 21:38

I'm so sorry for your loss. Take the time you need to grieve and heal physically and emotionally.

After 5 years of TTC I fell pregnant but sadly had a blighted ovum discovered at 12 weeks which tore me apart. I fell pregnant again 3 months after that loss but sadly miscarried again. 6 months after my second loss I fell pregnant for a 3rd time and now have a very active almost 10 month old.

I hope you get your rainbow soon.

Mwilliams31 · 10/12/2020 22:08

Thank you everyone - these have really made me feel so positive. Sorry you have all had to go through this but so happy you all are now having a successful pregnancy or have lovely little ones 💗

Hello OP

I had a blighted ovum in May.
June’s period was very non existence but fell pregnant in July. Currently 23 weeks pregnant.

Wish you all the best

Mwilliams31 · 21/12/2020 12:14

Hey everyone, just wanted to see how long it took for your period to return after your miscarriage? I am still waiting but it has only been 2 weeks, however I am very impatient! Grin xx

Happened to me back in October and I'm 4w+1 today! I thought it would take a little while but apparently not. Just hoping for a sticky bean and counting down the days until I'm 8 weeks for my early scan.

MumToBeMaz · 21/12/2020 12:53

Oh, and my period came about a week after I stopped bleeding from the MC.

Mwilliams31 · 21/12/2020 13:44

@MumToBeMaz thank you, and congratulations, i have everything crossed for you, I’m sure all will be fine this time Smile xx

I had a blighted ovum at 7 weeks in August. Began properly bleeding on 17th and finished bleeding on 24th. I then had my period on 17th September but I didn't ovulate that cycle. On 10th October I got a faint positive but ended with a chemical pregnancy. I was due on my period on 11th December but had a very weird strong feeling I was pregnant on 3rd December. Thought it would be way too early but tested anyway and it was a faint positive. I'm now 5 weeks pregnant 😊hope that helps and fingers crossed for you x

aeiouaeiouaeiou · 21/12/2020 18:55

My first pregnancy was a blighted ovum. Back in 1991. I went on to have two healthy pregnancies and now have 27 and 28 year old sons. I didn't miscarry and back then a scan wasn't routine until 18-20 weeks. I was told at 19 weeks my sac was empty so had a d and c. Then was told to have three periods (three months) before trying again.

I actually was very ill at 11+ weeks and had sickness and diahorrrea but didn't pass anything. Afterwards I realised that was my body trying to reject the pregnancy.

Good luck OP. Maybe forget about TTC over xmas new year and see what 2021 brings x

Mwilliams31 · 28/12/2020 14:42

@reimah when you say ‘very non existent’. Can you explain what you experienced please? I started bleeding a few days ago and was so happy because thought as soon as this period is sorted we can start trying again but it’s so so light, some browny discharge, red now and again, and sometimes nothing! I just want to start trying again but don’t know whether this even counts as a period Confused xx

reimah · 28/12/2020 23:04

Hi @Mwilliams31

I had pretty much what you described.
It was a mix between brown/red discharge on my panty liner, nothing when I wiped.
It lasted for 2/3 days that’s it, I assumed that was my June’s period.
July’s period was back to normal and I conceived in that cycle.
How are things going for you now?

Best x

Mwilliams31 · 29/12/2020 08:20

@reimah thanks for your response, I feel better now knowing you experienced the same, I’ve read a lot of people experience this but then most people say you will have a really heavy period the first one since the mc! I am fine, just want to get trying to conceive again - how is your pregnancy going? Xx

OP posts:
Daffodil21 · 29/12/2020 08:27

@Mwilliams31 you'll need to take a pregnancy test 2 weeks after a mc to check it's negative. If it's not you should call the EPU because there could be 'retained products' (sorry).

My period took a week longer than usual, but I did conceive straight after my blighted ovum. Unfortunately that too ended in mc, but I have since had another and possibly having a 4th now, so there is obviously wrong going on.

Sorry for your loss Thanks

Mwilliams31 · 29/12/2020 08:30

@Daffodil21 thanks for your message, I have had 2 negative pregnancy tests and had a scan which confirmed all the miscarriage had come away so nothing to worry about there 😊

I’m sorry for your losses too but happy to hear you have 3 little ones and possibly another on the way! Congratulations Flowers x

OP posts:
Daffodil21 · 29/12/2020 08:31

@Mwilliams31 that's good! Best of luck to you!

Ah no, unfortunately not. Had 3 unsuccessful pregnancies and pretty sure the 4th mc is looming. No children as of yet 🙄

Mwilliams31 · 29/12/2020 08:37

@Daffodil21 oh I’m so sorry, I misunderstood your post 😞 I’m am so sorry xxx
