Hi all
I recently discovered at 12 weeks that I had a blighted ovum pregnancy and miscarried last week. Naturally we are devastated but would like to try again as soon as my period returns. Could anyone advise if this has happened to them and they have then gone on to have successful pregnancies? Looking for some success stories to lift my mood!!
Thank you x

Emmav2020 · 10/01/2021 22:09

@Mwilliams31 @Daffodil21 hi, i have just found the thread and thought i would join. I am going through this now, found out at private scan 28th dec at 8 weeks jusr a ges sac but no baby. Been for bloods every 48 hours at the hospital. Started bleeding Friday and stopped today. Yesturday waa horrendous, felt like i was going to faint there was that much blood and clots 🤢 sorry TMI. did you both have scans to make sure everything was gone? I had the same back in may 2018 but cant remember if i had a scan adter bleeding. Im going to wait a cycle to TTC again xx

Mwilliams31 · 10/01/2021 22:25

@Emmav2020 I’m so sorry for your loss 😞 how are you feeling? Yes I did have a scan to check everything had gone and it had. I’ve now had my first period which last 11 days 😩 and we are trying again. Have you had any successful pregnancies since your miscarriage in 2018? I am obviously panicking about it happening concurrently. Sending lots of love, hope you have lots of support 💕 xxx

@Mwilliams31 omg i dread my next period. I have an 11 year old son. No other children so my last 2 pregnancies have been this kind of misscarriage. Hospital just say its just bad luck. Have you taken any supplements before or while you are TTC? Im ok thanks, just glad the bleeding has stopped. I had some pretty big clots aswell. X

Mwilliams31 · 10/01/2021 22:34

@Emmav2020 apparently it is the most common form of miscarriage, not that it makes it any less devastating. I didn’t expect to be pregnant last time so didn’t start taking anything until the day I found it, which was Pregnacare. They told me to keep taking it if I wanted to try again so I am still taking it now. How about you?

Yes once it’s actually over it is a relief isn’t it xx

Emmav2020 · 10/01/2021 22:50

@Mwilliams31 yes pregnacare aswell. Only got it yday so only took 2 tablets so far. When are you due to ovulate? We should start a new thread about ttc for 2021 babies haha xx

Mwilliams31 · 10/01/2021 22:52

@Emmav2020 yes we should!! Haha I ovulated the other day (I think) and so should be able to take a test in about 10 days time 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 Xxx

@Emmav2020 @Mwilliams31 Hi Ladies, really glad to find this thread and know I’m not alone. We went for a private scan at 8 weeks at the end of November, to find an empty sac 😩 We opted for the medical miscarriage and I had my first period on 28th December. Following this we’ve started TTC again, back to the waiting game. Everything crossed for us all x

Emmav2020 · 11/01/2021 15:37

@TTCBaby1 its heartbreaking isnt it. My scan was 27th dec and as its my partners first he was excited and told our parents xmas day. I was never given an option for medical management just told let nature take its course. This was my 2nd and my other was may 2018 and was not ready to try again till late last year but were going to try again soon. Ive only just stopped bleeding from the misscarriage im thinking about making a fun thread about our TTC journey x

TTCBaby1 · 11/01/2021 18:48

@Emmav2020 I wouldn’t wish this on anyone but it’s nice to have u ladies as support who have also been through and are going through this living hell. It would have also been our first, we found out on 22nd Nov and our first scan with NHS would have been a week or two before Christmas, I’m so glad Christmas is over with as it was a constant reminder of how we should have been celebrating.

I’ve waited until I’ve had a period and were TTC again, I must admit I’m very nervous about it. The nurses in the EPU were brilliant and having reassured me that we have a better chance of a healthy pregnancy now as the chance of it recurring within a short space of time is quite slim - I hope this can also offer u some consolidation lovely. Absolutely up for the thread it really helps to talk x x

I've had a premature baby then 2.5 years later a blighted ovum found at 6 weeks, 6 months later a mmc at 10 weeks but didn't deliver till 15 weeks and 3 months later a chemical pregnancy. 1 year after my first loss we found we were expecting again, baby was born premature and very sick but is a happy healthy 5 month old now.
Sorry for your loss, hopefully your rainbow isn't far off

Mwilliams31 · 11/01/2021 20:23

@TTCBaby1 so sorry for your loss, there’s no way to describe it is there 😞 Everything was fine for me until 12+1 when I had a small show of blood. My dating scan was meant to be at 12+5. Booked a private scan for the next day because it was a Saturday and didn’t want to wait until Monday and that’s when they said there was a sac but no baby. I am so worried there is something wrong with my eggs! Such a sad time for us but all we can do is move forward and try again! Did they say it was less likely to happen again if you have a close pregnancy? That’s what I’m worried about 😟

@Emmav2020 let’s get this thread on the road ☺️ Xx

Emmav2020 · 11/01/2021 22:18

@Mwilliams31 @TTCBaby1 i have started a thread ots called - TTC 2021-lets keep it fun and interesting (sex talk)

I dont no how to share the link. Xx

TTCBaby1 · 12/01/2021 04:13

@Mwilliams31 So sorry for your loss - I felt useless, like it was all my fault - knowing how much we both wanted this. However the nurse advised it’s nothing either of us have done, it’s just our bodies say of saying this wouldn’t have been a healthy pregnancy. She also went on to say clearly we are fertile and not to let this put us off trying again. It’s something that happens more often than we think and we are not alone - apparently NHS did a study which showed when TTC again within six months you have a better chance of a healthy pregnancy and less chance of recurring - I know this is just stats but made me feel better in that ever after all of this, nothing has changed we still want a family xx

afictionado · 12/01/2021 06:37

My first pregnancy was blighted ovum, found out at 11 weeks when I started spotting and went for a scan. We'd been trying for a year so I was pretty knocked back by it. Got pregnant again 7 months later and the result is now a bouncy 20 month old. 🙂 I've since had an early miscarriage but that happened naturally straight away and was more like a late period, and now 8 weeks pregnant -- saw the heartbeat yesterday so hoping hard it'll stick around. Good luck!

Mwilliams31 · 13/01/2021 10:02

@afictionado congratulations! Hope everything goes ok for you this time round. Between your blighted ovum and your second pregnancy, did you do anything different that would weren’t doing before e.g. eat healthier, exercise, take supplements? I am not super unhealthy or anything but so worried that something from my lifestyle contributed to it xx

OP posts:
Jangirl03 · 13/01/2021 15:45

@Mwilliams31 I had a blighted ovum pregnancy in June 2018. Started bleeding at 11+2 and was scanned a couple of days later and found out. Had to have a medically managed miscarriage in hospital and told to leave it 2 cycles before TTC again. Started trying in Aug 18 and conceived in October 18 and had my boy in summer 19.
I started ttc my second December and got pregnant immediately so am currently 5 weeks so very early! Was 33 when conceived first two pregnancies and 35 with this one atm xxx

Mwilliams31 · 13/01/2021 16:02

@Jangirl03 congratulations!! I have the same question for you that I do for @afictionado, between your blighted ovum and your second pregnancy, did you do anything different that would weren’t doing before e.g. eat healthier, exercise, take supplements? I am not super unhealthy or anything but so worried that something from my lifestyle contributed to it xx

OP posts:
Jangirl03 · 13/01/2021 16:08

@Mwilliams31 I took supplements before all pregnancies for at least a month before I started trying. Didn’t change my exercise habits or eating but I’m quite healthy and I run a good bit! I was very anxious with my son and obvs am very early now tho xx

Mwilliams31 · 13/01/2021 16:13

@Jangirl03 ok thank you. Hope everything goes ok for you this time! I can’t take a test until next week and it feels like forever away x

OP posts:
Jangirl03 · 13/01/2021 16:19

@Mwilliams31 thank you I hope for you too! I’m having a private scan in a couple of weeks so hopefully can update with some good news x

Mwilliams31 · 13/01/2021 16:22

@Jangirl03 yes I’ll be having private scans this time too, just to see how things are going. Yes please update us 🤞🏼😊 xxx

afictionado · 14/01/2021 21:33

@Mwilliams31 No, didn't do anything different. I took folic acid obviously but nothing else, and if anything was having a pretty stressful time at work. It's so hard, you want to be able to do something but conceiving is such a chancy business and mostly out of our control unless there's an underlying issue that needs to be treated.

haidri · 23/01/2021 09:15

I had a miscarriage on 30th September at 12 weeks, and now I'm currently undergoing a Blighted Ovum miscarriage at 12 weeks. I've got to say, it's a slow and tedious process for this to flush out. It's driving me insane because I'm so sore! This miscarriage is physically tiring compared to my previous miscarriage where I went through a day of contractions however I had no sores afterwards!!!
