Is around who's due in April 2021? How are you feeling?

I was in a thread on here in early pregnancy, dropped off when I joined the buddies Facebook group, I'm still in it but its not really for me.... I miss having a place to go to chat pregnancy though.

OP posts:

I'm starting mat at 38 weeks on 22nd April, can't believe how quick it's come around 😳

JTB123 · 12/02/2021 12:36

22nd March even

clb8921 · 12/02/2021 12:59

I’ll be starting leave officially on 16th April which is 4 days before due dates, but will be taking annual leave beforehand so finishing at 38+1 weeks. I am so done with work now!!

Wavesandsmilesencore · 13/02/2021 18:54

I’ve finished work as of yesterday. Over here it’s written into law that women have to start antenatal leave 8 weeks before due date! I’m not sure how I’ll fill the time (schools will be operating fairly normally), but to be honest I’ve been doing around 80 hours a week since September so I probably need a rest!

Travel restrictions are getting stricter so I’ve given up hope of my family being able to visit, but we will try to get “home” for the summer holidays at least...

Does your maternity pay cover that time?
tinatsarina · 13/02/2021 21:05

Hi just found this thread. I'm due 6th April but could be sooner as it's my third and my other two were early 38 weeks and 39+3. Mine are 6 and 1 on the 23rd here so I'll have my hands really full soon.

Wavesandsmilesencore · 14/02/2021 07:59

@GreySkyClouds, the maternity pay is fully covered by the social insurance fund, for 8 weeks before and 12 weeks after, then after this there’s the opportunity to take parental leaves but these are not full pay. The maternity leave is compulsory, the parental leaves are optional

Catlady21 · 14/02/2021 11:54

@tinatsarina I'm due on the 7th with my third. Mine are 5 and 3. Mine also came early, 37 weeks and 39 weeks so hoping for the same with this one!

Dolly89 · 14/02/2021 16:59

Hi Ladies! So I’m due on the 28th April. I’d calculated my dates as 3/5 but the dating scan said otherwise?! 🤷‍♀️ Any way I’m now 29+4 and getting really excited to meet my little girl but I keep hearing/reading horror stories of women tearing in birth some ok, some badly and it’s making me quite anxious. I know it can be common for your first birth but am I naive to think if I do all the right things and can reduce it?!

flappityflippers1 · 14/02/2021 17:28

@Dolly89 some women do tear, some don’t - I think you can do perineal massage which can help? (I never did and didn’t really look into it tbh)

If you’re feeling worried or anxious about birth I can’t recommend hypnobirthing enough. It’s not just for “lardy daa” home water births - the techniques I learnt came in most helpful when I was being rushed to theatre and put under anaesthetic for our emergency section!

It’ll teach you how to breathe with your body as well as teach you how, why and what your body is doing which will take a huge amount of the fear out of birth for you.

One thing that always stands out for me when mums talk about tearing, is that they all say they barely noticed it at the time x

Catlady21 · 14/02/2021 19:08

@dolly89 I had an episiotomy with my first and a tear with my second. I was only aware with the first as they asked consent - I felt nothing. I didn't even realise with the second until they asked if it was okay to start stitching me up. I had the gas and air still available so felt nothing at all.

BaaHumbugg · 14/02/2021 19:16

I had a second degree tear but like others didn't feel anything, the piles after birth were far worse!

drumst1ck · 15/02/2021 08:37

Another second degree tear here but was totally unaware of it happening and recovery was pretty okay! Stitches were all inside so no pain when going to the toilet, just swelling which went down after a few days.

Hey, does anyone else feel completely drained at work? Even if working from home. I was 32 weeks yesterday and am really struggling. I took the afternoon off on Friday as I just kept crying. Feeling quite overwhelmed with the work I've been given but just need to get it done. Please tell me I'm not alone.

Also, I really don't know how we will afford for me to have more mat leave so I don't necessarily want to go off earlier if I can help it. 28 working days left and counting ... but I'm really tempted to take another week off earlier.

MsHedgehog · 15/02/2021 10:26

@1sttimemumtobe2021 Definitely! I'm wfh too and to be fair I was working crazy hours in Jan and early Feb so I have completely worn myself out, but last week was a quiet week but I couldn't do any work. Just could not bring myself to focus and wasted the entire week!

clb8921 · 15/02/2021 10:34

@1sttimemumtobe2021 Definitely not alone. I’m WFH too and am 31 weeks tomorrow. My workload fluctuates, and I go through phases of feeling totally overwhelmed. At the moment it’s not too bad - but I’m definitely not taking advantage of the quieter time to get bits and pieces done, my focus has well and truly gone out the window! 7 weeks of work and counting...

BaaHumbugg · 15/02/2021 11:07

I'm feeling the same! Had so much energy in my last pregnancy but this is the polar opposite. I just want to sleep during the day but can't do that with work and my daughter here!

flappityflippers1 · 15/02/2021 11:21

I work of an evening and on a Saturday, the Saturday isn’t too bad but the evening shifts I’m nearly falling asleep 😴

1sttimemumtobe2021 · 15/02/2021 13:17

Oh dear! We are all in this together! Just feels like a while to go... at least I'm not alone! I've known a few people take 6 weeks off before due date. I mean I would be totally bored and don't have the money to do that, but with the way I (and us) feel right now, it certainly doesn't seem too early!

BunsNPosies · 15/02/2021 13:45

Hello everyone, it's been a while since I posted so just catching up. I've had a few bits going on since last managed to get on here. Have been diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes so that's been fun. Having lots more scans now though so have been able to see baby lots more which is lovely.

My last working day is 1st April, I'll be 37 weeks. I just can't wait to finish now, I'm shattered. It will be nice to get all my hospital bags ready and hopefully have chance to catch up on a nap or two before little one arrives (probably not though lol)

Ttwinksy · 15/02/2021 14:18

I'm utterly and totally drained too...feel completely foggy and washed out all day, then get to night time and just can't sleep. So frustrating. But guess we'd better all get used to it!
Have started wondering how much of it is actually just part of lockdown fatigue at this point. Have got to a stage where I'm a bit desperate to see friends and family again, and to be able to go and do something outside of the house (difficult with this crappy weather and pelvic pain). Going a bit stir crazy and think that's sapping my energy just as much as baby is to be honest.

Counting down the days til mat leave...along with the rest of you!

TheViewOutsideMyWindow · 15/02/2021 14:39

Also feeling the effects of this, my second, pregnancy. 30 weeks, WFH and utterly exhausted. Struggling to find the energy to do anything tbh. Not great with a 3yo. Going to start taking a lunch break and having a lay down for 30min or so.

April37 · 15/02/2021 16:03

Hi, new to Mumsnet. I have been reading through all the posts on here and I gained a lot of information. I am due with my first the 26th April currently 30 weeks pregnant. Just wanted to hi and wondered whether there was a FB group as well. I haven't been able to book any antenatal classes as they are all fully booked in my area.

JTB123 · 15/02/2021 18:29

33+1 and WFH... some days I don't even have the energy to open my laptop 😩 knackered is an understatement!

JTB123 · 15/02/2021 18:31

@April37 I would recommend the baby academy online, they offer 2 free 2 hour classes, one on general baby care (bathing, nappies, safe sleeping etc) and one on breastfeeding!
I did the baby care one on Saturday and it was really informative!! And you were able to ask any questions etc! Xx
