Is around who's due in April 2021? How are you feeling?

I was in a thread on here in early pregnancy, dropped off when I joined the buddies Facebook group, I'm still in it but its not really for me.... I miss having a place to go to chat pregnancy though.

My mother has one of her own that she is using for a hip injury so she's going to lend me it closer to the due date. I'll give anything a go Grin. She reckons it makes a huge difference to her pain levels with the injury so am hoping it'll do the same for early labour! Agree that some must be better than others though. I assume the hire ones are more like hospital grade ones?

BoJingle · 07/01/2021 11:58

@Ttwinksy I think I'm going to hire one and just see how I get on with it. Labour hurts, if there's a chance it helps then I'm all for it.

Has anyone starting thinking about birth plans yet? I had to be laying down the entire time on my back last time to be monitored (despite me not wanting this), I was so uncomfortable and hated it, when I was allowed to get up and go to the loo I was immediately more comfortable, so I need to make sure that I don't get forced into being stuck in a bed again. I think I'll have to make a note to mention it on my next midwife appointment.

Forgot to say, I hired the tens machine from my local birth centre (where I intended to give birth, and started off in labour) for £10. Well worth considering imo, even though it didn't work for me. If it works for you its bound to be a godsend!

As for birth plans I'm, I'm having a planned c section this time.

BaaHumbugg · 08/01/2021 15:19

Hi everyone just checking in, 25 weeks and getting uncomfortable now! Was hoping to have a rest for the last few months but now my daughter is off school, oh joy!

@UnicornAndSparkles did you have a section last time? At least there will be a definite due date!

clb8921 · 08/01/2021 15:47

@BaaHumbugg I am 25+3 today and I am with you on the uncomfortable part! Turning over in bed and hauling myself up off the sofa is getting quite comical 😂 I’m not even that big! I dread to think what I’ll be like in even 10 weeks time.

BaaHumbugg · 08/01/2021 18:39

Same here, I think the next 15 weeks are going to go very slowly!

firsttimemomtobex · 08/01/2021 20:00

@BaaHumbugg I'm 25 weeks tomorrow and getting uncomfortable too and I'm not even that big! Keep waking up with a really bad pain in my left hip when I lie on that side and my pregnancy pillow doesn't seem to be helping 😩 @clb8921 I'm struggling to get off the sofa too!

Bruce2 · 08/01/2021 20:46

Hi all, haven't really posted much yet. Was meant to tell my boss today that I'm pregnant but chickened out!
I have until Monday to tell him as that'll be me 25 weeks. I started a new job in June then fell pregnant in August. My boss is so lovely I'm worried I add more pressure on him as our team are already under resourced.
Only planning to take between end of April and September off so hopefully he's ok with it all

How did everyone go about telling their work? Did they take it ok?

doritodiva · 09/01/2021 15:26

Is anyone struggling with pain in their coccyx? Mine is really hurting and I'm
Aching when I've been in bed.

buttacups · 09/01/2021 16:56

Hello can I join? I know I’m late to the club but only just found mumsnet. I’m due on the 30th with my 2nd, I’ve recently become a single mum so it all feels so different from last time

bunhead34 · 09/01/2021 17:01

Has anyone been prescribed anything for acid reflux? Mine is out of control.
Will have to call the docs on Monday!

bunhead34 · 09/01/2021 17:02

Anything other than gaviscon I mean!

UnicornAndSparkles · 09/01/2021 18:42

@BaaHumbugg I didnt have a section last time but have been offered one this time as my previous birth was really traumatic and the hospital let me push for far too long and left me for several hours at 10cm dilated, which led to very late intervention and left baby in ICU with suspected brain damage. Absolute miracle she survived! Fortunately she's fine and shows no sign of her traumatic birth but it could have been so horribly different. So a section is the safest bet this time. I hasten to add this is a rare experience and most first and subsequent births are absolutely manageable and can be a wonderful experience! So please don't worry. I know its easy to say, but for every traumatic birth there are dozens of absolutely normal ones. Your body is made to do this!

Also feeling huge this time and struggling to roll over in bed and get up off the sofa. Counting the weeks!

Gaviscon is all I've got for reflux I'm afraid. I find smaller meals help but it's really awful I know. I find the liquid is better than the tablets too.

Welcome @buttacups. Sorry to hear about your situation, hope you're ok.

BaaHumbugg · 09/01/2021 19:56

@UnicornAndSparkles that sounds awfully traumatic, hopefully this time will go more smoothly! I'm glad your little girl is alright.

My daughter was 2 weeks early so I'm hoping this one is the same then I won't have so long to wait haha.

Gaviscon is all I have for the heartburn too, I got some from GP as it was costing me an arm and a leg!

Welcome @buttacups!

I told my boss at 10 weeks, I know maternity leave can be a bit of an inconvenience for an employer, especially with a pandemic happening too, so I wanted to give as much notice as possible.

He took it fine. Was clearly surprised (I don't know why, I already have one child) but gathered himself and congratulated me. There's not really much else they can do, it will be fine! You'll feel better when it's done. Is your job easy to cover?

Hi @buttacups, I'm expecting my second top. DD will be 2.5yr when the baby arrives. How old is your DC?

I bought nappies, nipple cream, bottle teats as I'm planning to combi feed again and a steriliser today. The most unexciting shopping but I feel like I've taken a step towards being prepared at least because so far I've done nothing 😄

@UnicornAndSparkles thank you, I’m doing okay. Recently moved into a new flat with my little boy and everything’s looking up a bit!

@BaaHumbugg thank you for my welcome!

@BoJingle my little boy is 15 months old, so quite a small age gap!

BoJingle · 10/01/2021 14:14

@buttacups Thats a nice gap, they'll be the best of friends. Do you know the sex of the new baby? Congratulations on your new home🥳

OP posts:
Bruce2 · 10/01/2021 20:18

@BoJingle not really, we're already covering for vacancies in team so just adds in pressure.
I'm telling him tomorrow...completely bricking it.
Thinking about logging onto MS Teams and then just standing up to show my bump. Say nothing 😂

ButtaCup · 10/01/2021 21:50

Thank you @BoJingle!, I’m having another boy :)

How did it go *@Bruce2* ?
Meetings at 1pm Will let you know xx
StayingPositive8 · 11/01/2021 12:09

Morning everyone

@Bruce2 - hope the conversation goes well, I think we were actually on our previous mumsnet group together!

Can I also ask any FTM's what you are doing about antenatal classes / NCT etc? Are you all taking part with groups etc? I'm struggling to make a decision about whether to sign up to a private group over zoom or not. Normally I would be a yes as I think having the network of other mums around you would be super helpful, but we are looking to move! We will be having the baby where we currently live in SW London, but then moving towards Surrey as soon as we can so I just don't know where to join and whether zoom will just make it really awkward? Sorry for the waffling message, would just be good to hear your thoughts really x

MsHedgehog · 11/01/2021 12:27

Good luck @Bruce2! I can't wait to hear how it goes!

@StayingPositive8 - We're doing it all online. We had the first one with our hospital on Saturday and even though it was virtual, it wasn't too bad and still very informative. It was awkward when we went into the break out rooms and as expected, some couples barely said a word whilst some dominated the conversation! We've also signed up to NCT which is virtual next month. We're in SE London and plan to move within a year, but as we don't exactly have a set plan in place, I thought it's better to have a network where we are now and move when it's time, rather than no network at all.

SequinCola · 11/01/2021 12:35

@StayingPositive8 we're doing NCT virtually and started last week. We're the latest due date by about a fortnight, but for various reasons it was the best course for us. It was fine doing it on Zoom if a bit knackering after work. It will probably take a bit longer to form friendships but it wasn't awkward. Quite a few friends did the same last year and I think they've still built good networks from it.
