Is around who's due in April 2021? How are you feeling?

I was in a thread on here in early pregnancy, dropped off when I joined the buddies Facebook group, I'm still in it but its not really for me.... I miss having a place to go to chat pregnancy though.

@LGrave I'm only just starting to notice more of a pattern in last week or so, so try not to worry. My busiest wriggle times seem to be last thing at night, first thing in the morning, and shortly after a big meal. But it still varies wildly in intensity from day to day. I think entirely depending on his position. I can feel it most when he's lying across and kicking outwards...then I can feel it near both hips (presumably one end feet, the other hands!). Some other days I have to really concentrate to be aware of him though.

Anyone know at what point they stop rotating so much and settle into a position? I'm starting to worry about the amount of time this kid spends transverse!

LGrave · 04/01/2021 13:19

@Rh8781 thank you that is really helpful to know that patterns should happen from about 28 weeks. I have a desk job so actually sit a lot during the week and I felt him move more this morning compared to the last few days when perhaps I have been moving around more. Also very good point that he is still really small so depends on foetal position - my bump changes shape a lot too (sometimes looks massive and other times seems to have shrunk) so I guess that is baby changing position as well? Can't thank you enough it's very reassuring to read your comments and experience.

@Ttwinksy - thank you so much for these words - it's so good to hear someone say not to worry about lack of movement/pattern. I will try an sit quietly early AM and late PM to feel for movement - hopefully he's getting bigger every day so more likely to feel him!

Rh8781 · 04/01/2021 13:31

@LGrave yes, they’re most probably changing position. They still have a lot of room to do that at the moment. My bump changes shape in the night, weirdly! A few nights last week I felt a bulge near the top (must have been a bum or a head) and last night I felt the whole outline of his back. He soon shifted around though!

SequinCola · 04/01/2021 13:50

I can sometimes feel what I think is a back or a bum at the top of my bump. Then they'll shift again and that's an odd feeling - the kicks make sense but that sort of going-over-the-top-on-a-rollercoaster feeling of what I assume is a full body roll still takes some getting used to!

I have found mine seems to have enjoyed the After Eights over Christmas so I've kept a couple of boxes back to use for the something sweet, cold drink, lie on your side routine that I'm expecting have to do in the coming weeks! Grin

Rh8781 · 04/01/2021 14:58

@SequinColaI It’s definitely useful having a surplus of Christmas chocolates left over for that! Grin
I get a similar feeling with him moving around; it can make me feel a bit queasy sometimes!

Ttwinksy · 04/01/2021 15:09

@Rh8781 Same!! I had a lopsided bump the other day, so gave the big bulge a firm prod and off he wriggled - so weird. It was either a bum or head sticking up, couldn't tell!

Agree with @sequincola it is a bit stomach churning when they full on body-roll Confused

BoJingle · 04/01/2021 22:28

@LGrave The difference really is astounding. I think my last one was particularly active and this one is particularly lazy 😂 I mentioned it to the midwife earlier who said what I'd been thinking that it's not a cause for concern, different babies, different patterns

Hi, mind if I join? Due mid April with my first. Looking at buying a travel system bundle from Online4baby.com anyone used this website? Trust Pilot rates them as 4.5 stars? x

How is everyone doing with lockdown?
I think pregnant women are supposed to shield in the third trimester?
Xx

Do you have a link to the source of this?
doritodiva · 05/01/2021 16:17

I work in a school and I won't be allowed round the children in the third trimester.

firsttimemomtobex · 05/01/2021 16:29

I'm currently still working as Boris decided to keep early years open for all! Have spoken to my employer today though as government guidance says from 28 weeks we are more at risk so waiting to see what they say as I don't want to start maternity leave that early I'll be home for 3 months doing nothing! @GreySkyClouds here is the link to the guidance I'm following www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-advice-for-pregnant-employees/coronavirus-covid-19-advice-for-pregnant-employees ☺

Thanks. Can’t see anything about shielding.

Must be hard for you going in and understand you not wanting to start maternity leave early as it will affect your pay. Luckily I can wfh, but 12 hours days are draining me :(

BoJingle · 05/01/2021 19:48

I am sure that we are classed as vulnerable but not clinically extremely vulnerable, and that is the group who has been advised to shield, so no shielding solely because of pregnancy.

I'm still working in the office, planning on carrying on until 39 weeks. I am definitely more risk aware though as I'm almost approaching 28w so have a meeting with my manager tomorrow to discuss and will probably start splitting my week and wfh part time.

firsttimemomtobex · 05/01/2021 19:53

@GreySkyClouds I can imagine how tiring it is! At least you can wfh though that's one positive I suppose

@BoJingle I was hoping to stay in work until around 36 weeks but don't want to put myself or the little one at unnecessary risk, hopefully you'll be able to work from home though so you can carry on as long as possible

LifeIsBusy · 05/01/2021 20:07

@LuckyFlash with regards to pumps I would suggest getting a bellababy. At circa £40 it's incredibly cheap in comparison to the mainstream brands as its a Chinese brand. I went back to work full time when my first was 12 weeks and I pumped 3 times a day at work for the rest of the year with my bellababy and easily got double that of my medela. I did originally purchase medela swing maxi but it was honestly the worst decision I had ever made. Also, don't buy second hand as the strength in the motor is often really weak. If you want to spend the same sort of price as the medela then I would suggest a spectra. They're not as popular in the UK but they are in the states where its really popular to use a pump as they don't get the same sort of maternity cover we do. They get much better reviews and often someone's top choice between the medela and spectra.

Alternatively, if you're hoping to breastfeed ft and only need the occasional top up from a bottle then I would say ditch the pump idea and get a hakka or similar. They get loads of milk out and you just need to suction it onto the other side whilst your LO is feeding.

BoJingle · 05/01/2021 20:14

I've just seen a post on Facebook about a tens machine and it's got me thinking. Is anyone planning on using one? I think I'd like to try it but I can't work out if all tens are equal and if hiring or buying is a better option.

OP posts:
LifeIsBusy · 05/01/2021 21:29

@BoJingle what are they used for? I thought they were designed to put men through labour pains.

BoJingle · 06/01/2021 00:04

@LifeIsBusy Well, I thought they were supposed to help with labour pains but you've made me doubt myself now 😂😂

Grin you’re right. I can’t understand how they work though other than providing a distraction

I used them recently, I ordered my car seat from them, also due mid April, It arrived on Saturday no probs at all. A friend also ordered her pushchair from them, when it arrived the seat unit fabric was the wrong colour. No issues with customer service, replacement fabric sent and she got to keep the incorrect colour so she has a spare.
blodyn91 · 06/01/2021 08:28

@BoJingle definitely want to use a tens machine, its sort of like a massage thing, so really good for oxytocin release. I haven't researched where to get one from yet

UnicornAndSparkles · 06/01/2021 11:36

I used a tens machine for the early stages of labour with my first. It didn't do much for pain relief tbh, was just a minor distraction from the pain. I did have a back to back long labour though.

doritodiva · 06/01/2021 20:53

I used a tens machine with my first and felt that it really helped. I had one from boots which you can hire rather than fork out for a full priced one.

BoJingle · 07/01/2021 09:52

See this group is the same as the feedback I find everywhere, a real mixed bag. I suppose there is no way of knowing if it will work for you until you try.

I also wonder if all tens are equal. You can pick one up from argos for £25 or hire one for the same price. The hire one has to be superior surely, otherwise how do they justify the price. So confusing!
