@loveacupoftea18 what an inconsiderate chap! I was advised by a dr friend that if you’re offered a ECV find out the success rate for the actual person doing the procedure. It varies massively. Some people have the knack. Some don’t. Find out the rate of the person doing it and decide if you like the ‘odds’.
That very good advice that I've not heard of before.

pigletpie2177 · 28/11/2020 11:03

I always thought the success of the turn was down to baby rather than the turner so that's interesting @Onekidnoclue. @loveacupoftea18 you decide what's right for you - I didn't like the sound of it but when I was 39+1 met a consultant at a party who joked about doing it in the next room and I wished I'd spoken to her first, maybe I'd have had my waterbirth 🤷🏼‍♀️ but... he's here and he's safe and the experience was very quick (without being alarmingly so) and I had a good recovery etc. If you're on the Facebook group happy to pm that way if you'd like. They've been talking about 37 weeks for me which is also NYD 😂

@Woody096 they must be different measurements to what they've been using for me as they said My fluid was 3.1 and that can't be the same scale I don't think, albeit I was just over 5th centile. At least they are closely monitoring though and baby sounds like a good weight if you are coming at 34 wks. Keep us updated!x

Woody096 · 28/11/2020 11:45

@pigletpie2177 I think some hospitals measure the deepest pocket, so it might be that, my deepest pocket is 10cm. But I think fluid less than 8cm is Oligohydraminos so could be the right measurement. It is hard not to google & become a keyboard doctor!

pigletpie2177 · 28/11/2020 12:34

@Woody096 I swear I posted a reply to this but no idea where it went. Yes just checked - the 3.1 was deepest pocket. I was googling like mad from hospital but have calmed down since speaking to the consultants. How far along are you now?

If anyone is interested in hypnobirthing I finally signed up to a course after watching a few Birth Ed videos on insta and then seeing she is doing her course for £19 instead of £40 for Black Friday x

VeeVeeBee77 · 28/11/2020 21:59

@loveacupoftea18

Thanks *@pigletpie2177* I'm wondering, if baby doesn't turn of own accord, whether actually a planned section would be better than I'm imagining. Only problem is baby is due Jan 1st so I don't really know when they'd do section as 39 weeks is Christmas Day Grin
I'm facing the prospect of a planned c section too due to placenta positioning. Had a scan at 33 weeks and it hadn't moved, got another at 35 to see if there's any change. But my midwife has said there's a chance I won't be able to have the natural birth I wanted, so I'm trying to mentally come to terms with that
pigletpie2177 · 28/11/2020 23:04

Ahh sorry @VeeVeeBee77 - I felt the same. I'd been imagining this really tranquil waterbirth with whale song and fairy lights or something and then they told me no chance. And unfortunately because of my previous section I basically have no chance of that ever happening - my local hospitals don't have the set up for water monitoring and I'm now deemed high risk. I remember crying after my last midwife appointment when there was a leaflet about vaginal birth in the pack they gave me. I have to say though, bar feeling a bit fed up that it affects this pregnancy, it was generally a very positive experience for me and when I had my little boy in my arms I didn't care how it had happened. I'm at peace with my scar (even a little fond of it) and I'm fairly relaxed no matter which way baby comes out this time too. I do remember that grieving process though so I don't suggest those feelings aren't valid!

Onekidnoclue · 30/11/2020 10:35

@VeeVeeBee77 I’m embarrassed to say I’m a bit jealous. I keep secretly hoping this baby is breech and I’ll have a planned section rather than going through labour.
I very much bought into the utopian view of how labour would be last time. I’d be in the water bath being all powerful and womanly. Husband saying encouraging things and being amazed at the strength I had etc etc. In all honesty the reality was very different and afterwards I felt like a huge failure I hadn’t been a good/brave/strong enough to ‘enjoy’ the process and deliver in the water surrounded by fairy lights and whale song. Both myself and DS were physically completely fine afterwards (I had second degree tears but nothing major). I would have done a lot better with a planned section I think for a couple of reasons. You’re not utterly exhausted before the birth (I had slept for three nights). You have an idea of what’s happening and the timescale you’re on. The pain is worse afterwards but it’s receding. During the labour the pain is getting worse and worse.
I’m 100% not saying a section is the easy option or better than a natural birth but I think there are plus points and it might help to focus on them rather than the negative ones. Having said that I’m a massive hypocrite who always looks for the negative so feel free to ignore me!!! X

Random question for everyone! Does anyone else’s bump hurt? Mine feels so tight like I’m about to pop and any pressure (from kicks or midwife prods) is super painful especially under my ribs. Is this familiar to anyone?

@Onekidnoclue you made a c section sound wonderful. I'll make you feel better about natural birth.....

C section fine and before but here is the after-

6 weeks worth of a waterfall of blood clots from your lady garden not so much.

High off of painkillers with a newborn baby

Sleep sitting up for 3 weeks as it's easier than getting up from laying with a wound

Infection rate 90% high

Hospital every 3 days for dressing change due to infection... average wait 4 hours.

No driving until all healed and signed off or you aren't insured to drive (10 weeks here)
Never hate public transport as much as you do with your precious newborn around germs!!!

Baby more likely to have jaundiced and breathing problems- more hospital trips

Less likely to breastfeed

Don't even get me started on the trapped gas after a operation, felt like a balloon blown up to the maximum capacity to the point that sitting down hurt. All 4's was the only help!

Anyway- I can't wait 🤣

oliveroses · 30/11/2020 11:00

@LiG123 this is slightly freaking me out! All my family have had c sections so I will be frankly amazed if I have a natural birth. It's my first and I haven't managed to get my head towards the actual birth yet, but I confess I did cancel my hypnobirthing course because I felt the agenda was too set against intervention etc. I'm hoping my nct class will help but it doesn't start til 21st jan. I'm due 19 jan. is it ok/normal to do nct so late? Anyone else started? I feel as though I don't know anything at all!x

LiG123 · 30/11/2020 11:08

@oliveroses nct is far too late, did you tell them your due date?

Thought I'd balance it out a bit. Child birth in any form isn't fun. I'm hoping for natural this time. Seriously a bad experience for me.

I agree with the intervention, the only reason I had a c section is because I was induced when baby wasn't ready.

oliveroses · 30/11/2020 11:12

@LiG123 oh dear... yes I did. I booked it in September and there were only two courses left. The other was slightly earlier but didn't have enough subscribers so they cancelled it and bumped me onto the next one ...

LiG123 · 30/11/2020 11:20

@oliveroses I'd give them a call as you'd possibly have had the baby by then and won't want to be learning about birth post birth. I'd cancel,

WhoUsedMyName · 30/11/2020 13:56

Is anyone having really weird cravings. I've been drinking RLT and brought some tablets and I want to suck them 🤔 you can only have 2 a day but I suck them before I swallow them and they kind of taste like Earth but I'd happily eat the bottle 😂

Onekidnoclue · 30/11/2020 15:22

@LiG123 ha! I think all birth is pretty brutal tbh. I guess for me the big thing was that the trauma is after the birth rather than before and it gets better rather than worse. I guess the grass is always greener! For me birth was terrifying as in labour i couldn’t really talk due to the pain for about a day and I was so scared something was wrong and it just felt like it was getting worse but I couldn’t speak and so nobody did anything. I guess I think I would have found it less scary to be in so much pain afterwards when I’d only be worrying about what I meant for me, rather than thinking it meant something awful for the baby. It’s so hard to know what’s better or worse beforehand (or even afterwards) there are lovely stories and absolute horrors for both!
Also. I guess I failed at BF and had a jaundice baby so not a big issue there! Isn’t 6 weeks of bleeding normal either way? I thought a month or two was standard. Nct told us it was ok unless you lost a pint very fast (under a minute) except from the first couple of days or you had clots larger than a digestive biscuit!!! This analogy totally put me off digestives Grin

Totally agree. NCT won’t be any good after birth.

@Onekidnoclue @LiG123 the slightly better news is that the classes all take place within about a week (on zoom) so unless I'm early i should get them all in before the end of 28th December ... it's a bit intense though!

Grumpy19 · 30/11/2020 16:22

@WhoUsedMyName, the smell of RLT tablets makes me gag!! 😂 pregnancy is weird!!

WhoUsedMyName · 30/11/2020 17:09

So weird isn't it @Grumpy19

That’s is good but I thought you said the classes were on 21 January, a couple of days after you’re due?
I honestly wouldn’t panic about the fact your family have all had sections. I’m the first in my family to have a natural birth. It’s about you. Not your family! I was sure I wouldn’t be able to get DS out as all the babies in my families are massive and get their shoulders stuck and end up in an emergency section.... my experience was totally different! Smaller than average baby and no shoulder issues, just back to back. X

I've got midwife app tomoz will be good to see if he engaged yet I'm feeling very low down and the over Weeing continues

oliveroses · 30/11/2020 19:09

@Onekidnoclue oh gosh, my brain has ceased working! The class starts on 21st Dec, I am due in jan. sorry that was really confusing! And thank you for your notes on c section/natural birth! I think I'll feel better once I'm armed with a bit more info. Just want to meet baby at this point, but only when he is ready of course x

footprintsintheslow · 30/11/2020 19:16

@Onekidnoclue second birth is almost always easier. My first birth was horrid so I went in with very low expectations the second time and it was great.

@WhoUsedMyName I'm off to the midwife tomorrow too. Good luck. Then I have a scan to decide about a c section on Wednesday.

WhoUsedMyName · 30/11/2020 20:00

@footprintsintheslow right back at ya.
I have a 36 week scan booked but they couldn't get me in till 38 weeks so what happens if he's giant by then because it's a growth scan

Onekidnoclue · 01/12/2020 11:41

@footprintsintheslow I so hope you’re right. I had really high expectations last time and it wasn’t great. Standards for this one are surviving!
