Anyone over 40 weeks?

Hey folks

Anyone else seen their ‘due date’ come and go recently and now found themselves in the weird limbo stage?!

I’m 40+5, and doing tons of spinning babies exercises, then lying back down for most of the day! Feeling pretty well all things considered.

My personal feelings are that I’ll go right to 42 weeks before accepting an induction, as I am a low risk pregnancy and had a good labour with DC1 at 41+1. I’m also going to refuse a sweep until at least another week.

So I’m trying to stay chill, listen to my hypnobirthing tracks and NOT watch the news!

If you’re in the same boat, give me a wave! 👋🏻

Hiyyaaaa Grin

41 weeks today and led wide awake next to my snoring DP!

Xx

I m 41+3 today, had some hope as I ve had contractions for 24 hours but went to get checked out and I m only 1cm after all that pain I was feeling, midwife was lovely and didn't make me feel like a wimp.

Got an induction booked in on Saturday so hoping that 1cm turns into something more after just having a sweep done tonight.

Gerdticker · 04/11/2020 08:15

Hi @Shameless29
That insomnia is very familiar to me - but I just slept through for the first time in weeks! I use ear plugs when DH snores, highly recommend ‘Mack’s Dreamgirl’ earplugs!! Grin

Hi @1990shopefulftm !! I hope you’re not too uncomfortable.. but also hope those contractions keep coming for you x

39+6 so I think I will be... was pretty desperate to have a baby pre-lockdown-due date, for grandparents sake. Unless I go pretty damn quick now, I won't. Need to decide about sweeps from tomorrow.

Gerdticker · 04/11/2020 09:20

@ticktackted

That’s frustrating for you Sad
I’ve made a support bubble with my mum & dad plus my sister has moved in with them for a couple of weeks. So they can be ready to take me to hospital/look after DC1 when the time comes.

My sister pointed out that strictly speaking our bubble might not conform with the rules, but we are all so v v careful that I don’t see how anyone could get cross about our arrangement. I feel like this lockdown is different to the first time, - I’m also in only a medium risk area at the moment

I do believe that baby knows best when they want to come out, so unless some mecical problem crops up i’m steering well clear of sweeps and inductions - I had such a positive experience at 41+1 last time and my mums babies were all 1 or 2 weeks over, so I guess it’s just in our genes to cook a bit longer Grin

I’m pretty much identical to you, 40+5,. I was going to decline any sweeps and induction before 42 weeks but my partner has been off since my due date so I’m ready for her to come now so he doesn’t miss too much baby time!
I went for a sweep on Monday and they couldn’t do it as baby was nowhere near engaged so I’ve been trying all the tricks to get her in place so they can try again tomorrow 😩

Gerdticker · 04/11/2020 09:45

@Sls668

Oh that’s so annoying - getting the timing right is maddening! Is this your first?

Keep going with the exercises - whether they help speed things up I can’t say, but I did tons of stretching and spinning babies exercises the day before DC1, and had a great fast labour. Being supple and having exercise endorphins can only be a positive Smile

DH and I run a business together, We’re having to close from Thursday due to the new lockdown, so we’ll be poor.. but at least DH will be around more to see his new baby!

It’s nice that your partner gets to hang out with you in the peaceful but boring bit before baby arrives though, do make the most of it if you can Grin

40+6 today, have a midwife appointment and sweep booked today. I've not been in too much of a hurry so far but with the thought of induction looming, for me I thought its worth trying everything before getting there. I also run a business that has to close after today so maybe he's waiting for me to get my last day of work done?!

Gerdticker · 04/11/2020 10:08

@WaveStreet

Hi!

Yes I think my baby must be waiting for lockdown too. DH said out loud ‘can you wait until Thursday please?!’ So maybe it heard..!

How are you feeling? Are you managing to use this time for any last bits and bob’s or mainly lying down like me Smile

Having said that - I’m going to do some exercises in a minute. Then lay down again Smile

WaveStreet · 04/11/2020 10:35

I said that too so perhaps they're listening! I'm feeling fine, really grateful to have had an enjoyable pregnancy so far and still managing to keep active and working until today. We're pretty much ready at home so not stressing about getting anything else done at this point before baby, trying to get the oxytocin going! How are you feeling?

biscuit13 · 04/11/2020 11:12

Im 40 weeks today and was hoping for baby to come before lockdown.... its our first but im having a sweep tomorrow, hope it works!!

Gerdticker · 04/11/2020 11:40

Congrats on making it to your due date @biscuit13 !

Out of interest do you know when your own mum had her babies - if they were early/late?

My mums 3 deliveries were all very late so I expected DC1 to be, and sure enough she was +8 days

Hence why I’m chill about going a few more days yet Grin

OP posts:
biscuit13 · 04/11/2020 11:43

@Gerdticker so my mum had me at about 36 weeks, and my sister about 38 weeks.... so I was absolutely convinced my baby would be early!! But no... Still waiting, not being very chill haha. 😫

Gerdticker · 04/11/2020 11:45

@biscuit13 haha yes fair enough! Your baby must be really comfy and in no hurry Smile

@Gerdticker have you had a sweep before? If so did it work if you were after your due date?

AlviesMam · 04/11/2020 11:54

I'm 40+3 and fed up Grin just been for a long walk and going to get bouncing on my ball.
I have an induction booked for Monday! Hoping to go before then though.

AlviesMam · 04/11/2020 11:54

Also had a sweep yesterday I'm 2cm dilated.

MummaBear4321 · 04/11/2020 11:57

Hi!! 40+2 today. I have a sweep booked for friday. I went into labour on my last DD at 39+3 so this waiting thing is new to me. I feel like a ticking time bomb. Doing lots of walking, bopping on the ball, trying to keep calm. I feel generally pretty good. Just want her here now!

Gerdticker · 04/11/2020 12:05

Welcome to the limbo club @AlviesMam @MummaBear4321Grin

@biscuit13 no I haven’t had a sweep before.. I reeaally don’t want one as I’ve heard mixed things about them -I’ve also been checking my own cervix occasionally and it’s still way way back, so not ‘favourable’ as they say!

Although I also know that second babies can spring from nowhere.. so we’ll see

I’m honestly kind of enjoying this time - for once nobody expects anything from me and I can chill a bit. My sister is looking after DC1 so I can rest too which is amazing - I know I won’t get this luxury again for a long time! Smile

@WaveStreet feeling really good today - it’s so sunny here in Sussex!

I just spoke to my midwife and she’s pushing for me to book an induction next Tuesday when I’ll be 40+12 days. Apparently I can have the pessary then come home. I don’t like the idea, and want to wait until 42 weeks, but she said with COVID etc if I push it to 42 weeks I’d have to stay in hospital without DH until established labour kicks in.

So I guess going for the 40+12 days pessary induction is probably the best option..

But that’s still a week away so I’m going to do all the exercises then chill! And get the oxytocin going, like you!

AlviesMam · 04/11/2020 13:31

@Gerdticker I don't like the idea of an induction but my hospital doesn't allow us to go over 41 weeks. Personally I'm glad but induction scares me I thought she would come naturally Sad I guess there's still time. I feel absolutely fine no signs whatsoever just some slight pressure and pelvic pain! I posted yesterday about any stories where women had no signs then all of a sudden it happened ... I can't see this happening with me lol x

MummaBear4321 · 04/11/2020 13:39

I feel the same about induction. I have in my head that I will refuse an induction until friday or so of next week, so I will be 41+4. But I am worried that the hospital will push back. I feel a little more open to the idea of having a an induction where I get to go home and see what happens, especially as I am textbook low risk, and I live 5 mins from the hospital, but I really want to go naturally. I have been having signs like cramping, back pain, serious braxton hicks, and actual contractions 7 minutes apart but then it all comes to nothing. It just goes quiet again. It's been over a week of this. It's so frustrating.

Gerdticker · 04/11/2020 13:50

@MummaBear4321 hmm, my first labour was like that; a week of discomfort, cramping and braxton hicks, but not labour... then out for a walk one morning things started to ramp up suddenly, and I had my little girl 5 hrs later!

There’s some good exercises on spinning babies that are designed to get baby down on to your cervix, I’m doing them now!

Look for ‘dip the hip’ and ‘side lying release’

I generally find their whole website fascinating, I like that they encourage women to have a positive effect on their own labour, rather than just watching tv on your bum and hoping! Sitting on ones bum for hours does seem to be the worst thing for encouraging a baby to get moving!

MummaBear4321 · 04/11/2020 14:03

@Gerdticker I will definitely look that up! I have been keeping very active. I have a toddler so I am mobile anyway, but I also go for a walk every day, even if it is just me waddling up and down the road. They do bring on contractions but it still comes to nothing. I am also still hoovering, cleaning, mopping the floor, carrying washing etc.

Gerdticker · 04/11/2020 14:06

@MummaBear4321skunds like you’re doing all the right things (and will have a lovely clean house) Grin

I think your baby will be on it’s way soon - I’m going to put my money on your labour starting within a couple days Flowers
