No point to this thread just so excited to meet my baby Grin Is anyone else due soon or found out they're pregnant recently? It's all so exciting

Congratulations @FlowerPig! Just out of curiosity, why did they tell you to stay off the Freya app? I’ve downloaded it for when I go into labour x

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 29/10/2020 17:35

Phone up about baby’s movement today and told to come in and get checked and bring my hospital bag because they’ll want to induce! I was very nearly put off going in. No way do I want to be induced at 6pm at night, with no notice and a toddler at home. I’m sure it’s just my anxiety and wanted a little reassurance, that’s all. Apparently even if the trace is fine, they’ll still suggest induction. I’ve gone in to get checked but I won’t be accepting induction tonight unless they have any evidence something is actually wrong. I had a horrific induction last time and I’m not doing another night induced alone again (partners would be sent home by 8pm tonight).

SqidgeBum · 29/10/2020 18:53

Oh wow @FizzingWhizzbee123 that's a bit extreme! I would be saying a hard no to that too. If there is no medical reason for induction then it shouldn't happen. I do feel induction seems to be the go to these days. Maybe its because of covid the maternity units like to control the birth numbers a little more.

FlowerPig · 29/10/2020 20:33

@FudgeFlies She said so I could relax rather than focusing on tapping my phone 🤨 I think she thought I was probably overreacting because my pains only started at 1:30, but it really helped me with my breathing and to gauge where I was at.
It pops up to say when you're in established labour, which it did for me at 3am when they told me to get a bath and put the app down, I listened to myself instead and carried on with the app (in the bath), would definitely recommend using it, helped me to feel I had a bit of control/knowledge of where I was at, although I had no idea I'd be at 8cm when I got there!!!

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 29/10/2020 20:48

Well baby was fine on the trace. My stomach is rock solid and getting lot of Braxton Hicks but completely painless and zero signs of labour. I firmly declined induction tonight but have agreed to go back tomorrow for further monitoring and then take it from there. At least I’ve had time to put my toddler childcare on standby, just in case I do get induced tomorrow.

SqidgeBum · 29/10/2020 21:46

@FizzingWhizzbee123 did they say why they wanted to monitor you further if the baby was showing up ok on the trace?

@FlowerPig I have downloaded that app too. I found my husband counting me through my contractions to be sooooo helpful last time, but he tended to count quite quickly. I think he was a bit panicky too. I thought the app may help me in the early stages at least.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 29/10/2020 22:35

Their position basically was that an report of reduced movement at term is a concern that the placenta could be failing. The fact the trace was fine now was only a snapshot and didn’t guarantee that the baby would still be ok in an hour, a day, a weeks time.... That was what the consultant said and the reason they’d have induced me tonight. He also said there can be issues indicated by reduced movements which aren’t apparent in the data provided by the trace, so while a good trace is reassuring, the report of reduced movements is still a concern.

What I’m not clear on is, if tomorrow’s trace is fine, if that means they are happy to leave baby in there a bit longer or not. I guess the trace tomorrow is just to check whether baby is still seeming ok.

biscuit13 · 30/10/2020 15:26

Just had midwife appointment 39+2, declined sweep but booked one for next Thursday, which is day after due date.
Midwife is sending me for an extra scan, she said it looks like the growth has jumped up so she wants to check fluid. Should have that Monday or Tuesday. Im sure its nothing but a little bit of me is panicking incase they want to induce me straight away if the scan says too much fluid.

biscuit13 · 30/10/2020 15:28

Its also took the student midwife and my normal midwife about 10 minutes to find babys heart beat! Even though we could all see baby kicking around. It was weird!

DisneyGirl2387 · 30/10/2020 15:52

Please can I join! I'm 38+5 and a first time mum to be. I've loved reading all of your messages. Congratulations on all of those lovely babies that have been born! I've had absolutely zero signs of labour, no braxton hicks or anything! I'm just on the sofa and have started watching the boys on amazon to keep me occupied!

SqidgeBum · 30/10/2020 20:21

I have spent the day bouncing on my ball, and am now having tightenings every 5 minutes, but no pain so not proper contractions. Hoping it's the start of things.

@FizzingWhizzbee123 how did things go today?

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 30/10/2020 21:24

Thanks for asking @SqidgeBum. Baby was fine again on the trace today. Spoke with the consultant who said that really it’s up to me. If I was confident with the movements, they’d leave it (this made me anxious, felt like a lot of pressure on me to be sure my baby is fine!), leave it a few days and go in for daily monitoring and reassess on Monday or just crack on with the induction. I’m due to be induced on Wednesday next week anyway and I think the movements will just stress me out over the weekend so I’ve agreed to go in for induction tomorrow. I think I’m destined for induction anyway, so what’s the point in waiting a few days. Feeling mixed, worried I’ve made the wrong decision vs being relieved the finish line is in sight.

Fingers crossed your tightenings are the start of something. I’ve had mad Braxton Hicks lately. Apparently they’re worse when you’re dehydrated so have a big drink and see if they keep coming or not. Keep bouncing!

Sairafina · 30/10/2020 21:58

Hoping everything goes well for you tomorrow @FizzingWhizzbee123. If you are destined for induction, as you say it might be the best course of action to get it over with?

I've had a lovely hour with DH (😉) and just been for a long walk. Showered and on the sofa with my pineapple. Come on baby!!

eatthatbueno · 30/10/2020 23:59

Congratulations on all your babies and I hope you're all doing well ❤️. I'm 39+6 and getting a bit disheartened tbh. I thought baby was going to come earlier but there's plenty of time left.

Just seen the news. Apparently BJ is dangling the possibility of a lockdown in our faces. Of all times! We all would have found out we were pregnant around the time of the first lockdown, and now we are facing giving birth at the start of a second one. Anyone have any idea what this would mean for us? I am guessing they will say no visitors. I wonder what the impact on the hospitals or MLUs would be.

FML.

eatthatbueno · 31/10/2020 03:25

@SqidgeBum I would like to know this too. It is annoying how we feel like we are just getting somewhere and now there's a lockdown again.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 31/10/2020 08:19

My trust had relaxed all the visiting times to partners all day but not overnight- hopefully that won’t change if locked down - there seems to have been a recognition that pregnant / just given birth women need support since the first lockdown. Hoping I don’t have to stay in anyway, but this is stressful!

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 31/10/2020 08:27

I was just coming to check in on you guys about this because I guess you have “double lockdown” babies too potentially. What timing!

We were so heavily impacted by the first lockdown. I am having my second HG pregnancy and we’d so carefully put extra nursery support in place for our toddler. And literally it went positive pregnancy test to lockdown within a couple of weeks. I was so ill in bed for months but the first trimester was hideous, literally couldn’t have lost nursery at a worse time.

Had a complicated pregnancy in between. As soon as I read the news this morning, I was like, OF COURSE a second lockdown would time itself perfectly with my due date. Sigh.

I’m hoping the induction works and I can pop this little one out and get him home before it all kicks off on Monday. Tbh, we’re already in Tier 2 and can’t have people inside the house so I’m not sure how much it would change home support. I’m more worried about changes to partners on wards (although our Trust said that partners will always be allowed in active labour, but visiting either side of that could become more restricted).

What a mad, mad year.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 31/10/2020 08:28

Anyone know if the home midwife visits after birth still went ahead in the first lockdown? I’d hate baby to miss vital checks because of all this.

SqidgeBum · 31/10/2020 08:57

@FizzingWhizzbee123 I know the health visitor visits still went ahead in my area. Mg next door neighbiur gave birth in July and saw her health visitor a lot because baby was 5 weeks early. However I dont know about midwives.

I am very worried about losing childcare too. My DH will no doubt be told to continue working and he cant wfh, so after the 2 weeks I will be alone with a newborn and a toddler with no help or support. Honestly, I wont cope. I had severe post natal depression and psychosis last time. I really dont know what I am going to do.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 31/10/2020 09:09

It know, it’s a real worry Sad However I don’t think they’ll shut schools again, there’s already been a huge impact on kids’ education. And nurseries seem to be getting treated the same as schools. If schools and nurseries shut, it’s going to impact on people who still need to work through lockdown or their ability to work from home. I’m quietly hopeful that the nurseries will stay open.

SqidgeBum · 31/10/2020 09:38

I agree. I dont think they will shut schools, and I think they will prioritise the economy, so they will keep nurseries open so people can work. I think I am just devastated at the idea of having a baby during a dark and wet winter with no softplay or playgroup, and no way of seeing anyone just for some adult conversation .... I am just going to try to focus today on getting my head around this. Being stressed this close to giving birth isnt ideal. I suppose we just take it one day at a time.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 31/10/2020 09:53

Yeh I think schools- at least under 11s education will be open- I’m getting my husband to take our 3 yr old out over the next 3days: farm, trampolining, so I feel less guilty in the month to come. Guess everyone will FaceTime the baby Sad

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 31/10/2020 18:39

Not looking good for a Halloween baby for me 😭 In good news, I’m dilated enough naturally that I don’t need to balloon. I can go straight to just having my waters broken abs hope that kicks things off. However the labour ward is heaving so I may not even get into the ward to have my waters broken until tomorrow. I was hoping to be sent home but I’m stuck on the antenatal ward overnight, sweltering in a mask. DH has gone home to put the toddler to bed.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 31/10/2020 22:24

FizzingWhizzbee123 you have to wear a mask?
