Babyhope98 · 07/11/2020 11:51

We are officially full term today @LRHRN exciting!! 💖 Although as it’s my first sure I will get to due date and beyond 😅

LRHRN · 07/11/2020 12:23

@Babyhope98 I know 😬 how are you feeling?
I'm fed up now but also mixed emotions, some days I just want her now and others I'm panicking thinking she needs to stay in forever because I don't know if I remember what to do with a baby 😬 (DS is 13 and DD is 9)
I'm still having early labour symptoms but nothing progressing which I'm assuming is down to her position, she's definitely flipped back to transverse as all of her kicks are in my right side almost near my back and her little head keeps popping up on the left.

Babyhope98 · 07/11/2020 12:34

I am ok I have been a bit down over the last few days as I feel like it’s dragging I don’t like this uncertainty of when will they come 😂, also bored at home alone while partner is at work and my liver levels have still been raised so I’ve been worrying myself rather than enjoying the wait, but feeling a bit more positive today 😄 I started my acupuncture today she doesn’t start the inducing until 40 weeks but preps the cervix now and she did a few points for my liver so feeling like I’m doing something good for the baby 😆 Good you are having some symptoms, sure it’ll all come back to you when they arrive. All I’ve had is braxton hicks but that’s it, only time I’ve wished to have diarrhoea as heard that’s a good sign 🤣 I’ve ordered some raspberry tea should come this evening!! X @LRHRN

Sheera1 · 07/11/2020 13:13

@dee96 oft that is a really tough one. The issue is I am assuming that it is not your house that you live in but theirs? I would probably need to know more about the living situation to comment more fully tbh.

The dog sounds a nightmare and that is really concerning that he has a history of nipping and aggression. It shouldn't be doing that at all and sounds like they need a proper dog behaviourist. Honestly I would move out as you can't make them get rid of the dog or dictate what they do unless you co-own/rent together.

I have a dog and kids and dogs can be a bad mix. When he was a puppy and my son was young too the dog didn't see him as above him on the hierarchy and we had to work hard with the other so my son learned to be in charge and the dog saw him as above him on the house hierarchy. If they don't then bad behaviour and nipping will occur. I would also say this was why my dog was a puppy, not an adult dog. Nipping is a very worrying sign.

You need to get a playpen to have the baby in away from the dog if notnin your arms. Honestly you can't leave the baby unattended for a second.

I am doing the same tbh and I don't see any issues with my dog but he will come racing in from a walk and take a minute to calm and can't have him knocking over the Korea basket or barreling over the baby on a play mat.

We will introduce him properly and important not to side line him or he will get jealous. I honestly can't see it working when you are not in charge of the dog. Sorry to be doom and gloom, but if they won't properly train the dog and he is nipping you need to think of moving.

Sheera1 · 07/11/2020 13:17

Just to add I don't advocate getting rid of a dog because you have had children. That is unfair and not responsible dog owning. However, this isn't your dog and have no control over it and it sounds like there are some big issues there and if you are not able to make them fix it (which sounds likely) you need to remove the baby from the situation. If they are not dealing with it now it will become a huge issue.

LRHRN · 07/11/2020 14:45

@Babyhope98 that's good then with the acupuncture 👍🏼 the diarrhoea is horrid and I've had it 3 days but blaming all the spicy food I've been eating.
I've been having the tea from 32 weeks and the tablets from 36weeks along with evening primrose oil capsules.
It definitely drives you mad being at home on your own and just waiting, it's definitely dragging now xx

jalu47 · 07/11/2020 17:04

@LRHRN just catching up - I'm at Chelsea and Westminster in London

jalu47 · 07/11/2020 17:12

@Babyevictionimminent welcome to the group. Last Sunday was exactly like this for me, cried on and off all day - was irritable, frustrated and generally feeling blue, have no idea why! Hope it passes quickly, I've felt much better this week.

lc86 · 07/11/2020 18:37

Has anyone else asked their OH not to be drinking alcohol now. I'm 36 weeks and had asked my OH not to drink from now until the baby is born as don't want him not being able to drive us to the hospital and don't want him not sober during the birth.. I come downstairs and he has a bud in his hand 😒 am I being unreasonable? xx

Babyevictionimminent · 07/11/2020 19:15

Thank you @jalu47. I feel a bit better today, must have been a big hormonal swing. The power of hormones is crazy

kkr168 · 07/11/2020 19:24

@lc86 I've been having the same discussion with my husband, he thinks its fine to have 1 or 2 drinks because he'll still be able to drive, I'd rather he had none!
I'm not a drinker at all, pretty much tee-total, so I personally don't see the big deal with going without.

Asianchick6693 · 07/11/2020 19:30

@peachypetite glad I'm not the only one. Had a little cry about it too. Not that I'm not excited about LO's arrival. I just feel so scared some times. I don't know if this normal or if my fear is slightly getting out of hand. I watch birthing videos and it seems like although the women in labour are in immense pain, they get through it and for some reason I don't have the faith to be able to do it myself! Ahh don't know. Been feeling extremely exhausted too. Just had a nap from 5 and woke up 15 minutes ago.

Is anyone managing to get in any exercise at all. I've barely done any this pregnancy any way because of the PGP but I used to manage to go on walks in first and second trimester. Really struggling to do any sort of activity lately.

peachypetite · 07/11/2020 22:43

@Asianchick6693 I am going to do the hypnobirthing course by the positive birth company.

kkr168 · 07/11/2020 23:01

Does anyone else get really stiff late evening & through the night? It's driving me crazy, it gets to about 9pm & my back suddenly starts hurting. When I wake in the night to go to the loo it's the same, yet when I get up in the morning it's fine & is fine all day until late evening again.

lc86 · 07/11/2020 23:19

@kkr168 yes, I feel like an old woman trying to get up off the sofa at night and end up going to bed just to try and get comfortable with it.. it's like my body seizes up at the end of the day x

Dee96 · 07/11/2020 23:47

@Babyhope98 one step ahead of you! I have ear plugs but they wont be practical when baby is here as I'll need to hear her if she wakes. Also I find it quite ridiculous that I even have to walk around with ear plugs on just to try and get some rest/naps.

@Sheera1 no it's not doom and gloom it's the harsh reality unfortunately! I agree with you whilst the dogs training is out of my hands there isnt much I can do. But I feel myself going insane by the lack of sleep. The last thing someone wants when they've been up till 6am with cramps is then to be woken up at 6 30 by a dog barking nonstop. The house isnt mine correct we are residing here until we can save up enough to move out on our own. Thing is when dp mentions this issue to his family their attitude is that the baby will have to get used to the dog when it should be the other way round surely!!! I can barely function right now and can honestly see this dog being a big problem for me and baby and me eventually snapping. I definitely don't plan to let the dog anywhere near my baby until she has some form of immune system or at least vacs done. And even then I'd prefer them separate because of the biting which yes doesnt hurt us adults but can do serious harm to a baby. However I dont know how that's going to work as the family love the dog and I'm sure will want the dog involved with the baby asap. They are already convinced the dog will get on with the baby like a house on fire Hmm

peachypetite · 08/11/2020 06:42

@kkr168 for me it’s my thighs, I feel like I’ve done a thousand squats by the end of the day. I’m pretty much having a bath every night now before bed which really does help.

NatalieH2220 · 08/11/2020 07:48

@lc86 Yes, I asked him the other day actually. I'm 38 weeks tomorrow. He usually only has a beer on the odd evening anyway but I don't want him driving if he's had anything at all. I'd be annoyed if he did drink so don't blame you for being annoyed too. It's a few weeks, it's not much to ask.

LRHRN · 08/11/2020 08:18

@Dee96 I'm assuming you are living with your partners parents?
Have you got any family of your own that could accommodate you for at least the first few weeks of baby being here?
I'd be really concerned especially about their attitude towards the baby with the dog. I'm sure your midwife and health visitor won't agree that the baby should fit around the dog.
It's not even worth the risk for me staying in the house if they want the dog to be involved with the baby, you'd never forgive yourself if anything happened. they sound as though they may be the type to interfere a lot aswell in the upbringing of baby too.
Sorry if I sound abit harsh, I don't mean to be. You just hear about so many babies and small children being attacked or even worse, killed by dogs regardless of their breed and that would be unbearable.
If you can't speak to DH and his family about your concerns you need to move elsewhere.

LRHRN · 08/11/2020 08:24

@lc86
My husband decided himself to stop drinking, he only normally has 3/4 bottles of beer on a Saturday watching football he doesn't drink in the week.

@kkr168 I feel like my back is seized up from about 4pm till I wake in a morning, I practically cry getting out of bed at night for the toilet.
If I'm active throughout the day I don't feel so bad. My hips and everything are really loose and I'm still contracting but they aren't doing anything or progressing as baby is transverse so she's not smashing her head against my cervix 😫
I've had enough now and think I'll be pushing for a csection on Wednesday if she hasn't turned

Amyyy1 · 08/11/2020 09:42

I'm glad to see it's not just me that's been overly emotional and teary over the smallest of things 😅

@Dee96 Would the dog owners consider a dog trainer to help install good habits in the dog and cut out the nipping etc? They surely must realise it's not a safe environment for the baby with that happening. I know you've mentioned you wanted to save for a house with your DP but would it be worth renting in the mean time just so you don't have that worry?? Dogs are wonderful when they're trained properly (I have 3😁) but it's not a good situation if they are not willing to see the risks and try and improve for yours and baby's safety. X

peachypetite · 08/11/2020 09:47

@Dee96 there’s no way I’d bring a newborn home to that house. I have friends with a one year old who has just been attacked by their previously calm dog and they have had to put the dog down. I don’t think newborns and dogs mix. And I’m a dog lover!

Sheera1 · 08/11/2020 10:23

@dee96 It sounds a tough situation. With our dog (or any dog and bringing a newborn home) there needs to be planning and thought. I don't agree with sidelining our dog because we will have a baby but there needs to be boundaries and focus on it and that would be usually the owner who also is the parent. My dog will be allowed to come and greet the baby and I envisage him insititing beside us sleeping on the couch while I feed etc. He has met other babies and is a very gentle dog. However, he will never be left alone with the baby even for a second. Buying a baby Dan playpen and if I need to answer the door baby will be in a sling or in the noses basket or a seat in the playpen. Tbh the dog will follow me to the door anyway, but with tiredness and distractions I will just start out doing this as the routine so if he disappears back to the room he can't access the baby.

In your situation I agree that you will have some sway over the dog as baby trumps dog esp with safety and they must realise that. I would set up ground rules that can't be broken like the dog not in your room at all. Set up a similar baby zone the dog can't access in a communal room and I would say a strict keeping them apart. The dog already seems to have a jealous streak and barking at you who lives in the house it is not likely to take to a new baby well so safer to keep them apart.the barking would drive me nuts and they should have control over the dog to stop it barking. I hate when my dog barks for my needs and for our neighbours. We have taught him to be silent when we ask and don't let him bark incessantly outside. The only time he barks is when the door goes which is typical dog behaviour alerting you, but we go quickly, tell him to stop as we are now aware and he doesn't bark again. I guess some breeds it can be harder to train out.

I would be super vigilant. Set these ground rules and save fast so you are out of there in your own place that you want anyway and before the baby is mobile as that will be really tough. When my baby starts to crawl and cruise I will be making sure the dog has his safe space away from the baby and that the baby is taught to respect the dog in return. Eyes like a hawk even for a calm friendly dog. Xxx

Sheera1 · 08/11/2020 10:26

But I get that owners don't like being told to handle their dogs. My partner is dreadful for that. He thinks the dog can do no wrong and he spoils it and I have had to out my foot down on some things he would let the dog away with in preparation like the dog not being allowed on our bed now. Our dog def has sensed a change recently I think and has been a bit more erratic and jumping up so cracking down hard on it now. Dp is on board but took some serious nagging from me.
