Told wrong sex?

I have been to three scans- at 16 weeks, 20 weeks and 30 weeks. All have said girl.
However, last night I saw on a Facebook group that someone had numerous scans that said girl and they ended up having a boy... I am so paranoid now!
Has this ever happened to you or anyone you know?

CherryPavlova · 07/10/2020 20:19

Is there a wrong sex?

Trufflepuffpuff · 07/10/2020 20:21

I think it's clear what the OP means from her post @CherryPavlova Hmm

Hannah12345625 · 07/10/2020 20:21

@CherryPavlova yes, as in told one sex and out came the other 🤷‍♀️

EnjoyingTheSilence · 07/10/2020 20:22

Does it matter?

LaVitaPuoEsserePiuBella · 07/10/2020 20:22

Please just focus on how lucky you are to have a healthy baby, hopefully, at the end of your pregnancy.

turnthebiglightoff · 07/10/2020 20:22

It is unlikely that 3 scans are wrong. And as a PP said, there isn't a wrong sex. Congratulations on your impending daughter! 💐

Hannah12345625 · 07/10/2020 20:22

@EnjoyingTheSilence obviously I am happy either way, and just want a healthy baby. But i have gone a bit crazy with pink outfits etc 😅

Yes nothing is set in stone.

Short of genetic testing you won't know until the baby is born. Always good to be prepared for any surprises.

abitfunny · 07/10/2020 20:23

HIGHLY unlikely. I’m really starting to go off Mumsnet with comments like above.

Ohalrightthen · 07/10/2020 20:23

Still not really getting why that would be a problem. Babies don't care what colours they wear.

chocolatespiders · 07/10/2020 20:24

Yes it happened to a lady I know. Her daughter was told she was having a girl and she had a boy.
She adores her grandson now but I remember her being so pleased it was a girl as she was single parent to two girls and said 'we don't do boys'.

If you are concerned or worried pay for a private scan

eenymeenymineymo · 07/10/2020 20:24

Is your baby developing well, & you too keeping good health. Isnt that usually what most new parents want to hear?
Boys are wonderful too by the way (says me, Mum to 3 of them)

Mrsi2020 · 07/10/2020 20:24

I know someone that this happened to, I asked her “omg what did you do” and she just laughed and said “went shopping” 🤣 they brought a unisex outfit to hosp just incase and all their big things were neutral. It’ll be something to laugh about in years to come if it happens, that’s how I think. I also think if you don’t want to risk being told the wrong sex, don’t find out 🙈 too late for you obv but I think being told three times separately I imagine the odds are in your favour op lol xxx

EllieJai44 · 07/10/2020 20:25

@LaVitaPuoEsserePiuBella completely uncalled for, the OP does not need to be made to feel guilty because shes pregnant 🙄

@Hannah12345625 you're gonna get alot of comments from people out there to defend the term sex vs gender used so be prepared

I knew someone who was told a girl right up to 28 weeks and then on a growth scan was told boy and he was indeed a boy! But thats literally the only first hand account I know! Other than that it's from people online lol

JoanApple · 07/10/2020 20:25

Happened to a friend (but just the 1 scan) so a surprise at the birth!

I doubt they are wrong if both 20 and 30 week scan say girl.

EllieJai44 · 07/10/2020 20:26

@abitfunny right there with you, not necessary at all!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 07/10/2020 20:27

Fuck me mumsnetters are vicious if u dare ask a question when pregnant- how dare u have a question while others struggle to get pregnant
Hmm

I think three scans is pretty conclusive- I don’t know anyone told the wrong sex- but will amend this if DD2 becomes DS in the next month Grin

NellyJames · 07/10/2020 20:29

I didn’t find out at the scan but I thought my eldest DD was a boy all the way through. I’m ashamed to say I was very very upset when she was born and I saw she was a girl. Of course, I now love her to bits and I went on to have two younger boys so I didn’t miss out but I wish I hadn’t let my desire just to have boys become an assumption that I was having a boy as it didn’t make for a healthy start.
Having said that, I think it’s highly unlikely that 3 scans are wrong.

abitfunny · 07/10/2020 20:29

@OnlyFoolsnMothers my thoughts exactly. Do not come on here mentioning sex/gender EVER. Some angry women on here.

FelicityPike · 07/10/2020 20:30

Yes a friend was told boy all the way through....went crazy buying “boy” things blue everything and had a little girl!
She wasted so much money!
That’s what happens when people try and pigeonhole their babies into old fashioned gender conforming nonsense like girls MUST wear pink.

Hannah12345625 · 07/10/2020 20:30

I didn't expect so many negative comments.
Obviously all I care about it having a healthy baby, and I know how lucky I am to be pregnant. I am happy either way.
I was just curious to see if it had happened to any other people and how common it was, as the Facebook Post shocked me and I didn't realise it can be wrong. No need for all the negativity!! 😩

OP posts:
Mommabear20 · 07/10/2020 20:31

@Hannah12345625 ignore all the negative comments. Everyone knows what you meant, unfortunately some people just have to be nasty. Congratulations on your bundle of joy, whatever they may be!

EnjoyingTheSilence · 07/10/2020 20:31

When I was told a girl I was also told they couldn’t be 100% sure, we’re you not told the same @Hannah12345625?

Buy some neutral clothes just in case and as op said, babies don’t care what colour clothes they wear

EmilySpinach · 07/10/2020 20:32

@Hannah12345625 you're gonna get alot of comments from people out there to defend the term sex vs gender used so be prepared

OP used ‘sex’ correctly.

Sunnydaysstillhere · 07/10/2020 20:32

3 separate scans at 20, 24 and 32 weeks they saw female genitals.
A rather well endowed ds arrived at 40 weeks.
No bloody idea how they missed that! Was like a handle they could have pulled him out by!!
