Told wrong sex?

I have been to three scans- at 16 weeks, 20 weeks and 30 weeks. All have said girl.
However, last night I saw on a Facebook group that someone had numerous scans that said girl and they ended up having a boy... I am so paranoid now!
Has this ever happened to you or anyone you know?

An old boss told me the story of her son and his DW who'd been told they were having a boy, bought and decorated everything blue, picked a name, handmade nursery door nameplate, everything.

A girl was delivered.

I didn't find out the sex of either of mine after hearing that; not that I would have wanted to anyway , I don't think

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 07/10/2020 20:32

Ignore OP- I went pink crazy when I found out about DD1- awful Clearly as kids are only allowed to be is smudgy neutral colours otherwise we border on child abuse!

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 07/10/2020 20:33

Why do people have to be deliberately obtuse and difficult about questions like this?!

Some people like 'gendered' clothes or to decorate the nursery. Some like to pick the baby's name and personalise items. Some people like to know the sex to feel more bonded to the baby.

You know this. There's no need for snark.

Hayes178 · 07/10/2020 20:34

She's not saying there is a 'wrong sex'. She only means wrong as in not the sex she was expecting. OP has said nothing to suggest she would love the baby less if a boy, or she would resent her baby, just that she's worried because she shopped for pink clothing. No, colour doesn't have a sex, but I imagine it would become infuriating having to explain to strangers all the time as to why your son is in a bright pink dress!

Op, I don't think the sex would be muddled up if you had more than one scan confirming. Good luck Thanks

Gizmo79 · 07/10/2020 20:35

Yep- I was told a girl throughout my scans (had extra as ‘it’ was small).
Ended up giving birth in my bathroom and first thing I said was - it’s got a willy! Yep it was meant to be a girl!

Oneandabean · 07/10/2020 20:35

It can be wrong but it is unusual. As you’ve had the same response from multiple scans I’d say you can be pretty sure they’re correct.

Gizmo79 · 07/10/2020 20:36

Oh, and we did have to change the name, but luckily just one letter of it😃😃

purplecorkheart · 07/10/2020 20:36

Yes, it happened to my cousin. She was told it was a boy and they had a healthy beautiful baby girl. They did not care once their baby was healthy.

RyvitaBrevis · 07/10/2020 20:37

They're not often wrong but if they are it's more likely to be a boy than a girl, because the presence of something is easier to confirm than the absence, if you see what I mean.

I've never met anyone who this happened to in real life so I think you can relax! I was a little worried myself about buying gendered clothes so I know where you're coming from.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 07/10/2020 20:42

And this is why all the girls = pink boys = blue does so much damage.

Seriously.

Enjoy your baby.

ScottishLassie91 · 07/10/2020 20:46

@Hannah12345625 congrats on your pregnancy!
Imagine you having the cheek to ask if anyone else had experienced being told the incorrect sex of the baby 😂
Honestly, you cant ask anything now without someone getting offended. Of course people are sympathetic to others but my god, you only asked a question and at no point indicated youd be unhappy or were ungrateful.
Anyway, I'd say as you were told at all 3 likelihood itll be correct 💜 xx

bitheby · 07/10/2020 20:46

Happened to someone I know. Told one and got the other.

Hatscats · 07/10/2020 20:49

I’ve been told girl but obviously it’s not 100%. This is why I’ve only bought neutral stuff 😂
I have lots of “girls” hand me downs, they’ll get used either way.

greenette · 07/10/2020 20:50

@NellyJames I think this is going to happen to me. I've been convinced I'm having a boy and want a boy but now I keep looking at little girl things to get used to the idea. Me and my partner call baby "he" even though we don't actually know what we are having Confused

Paperyfish · 07/10/2020 20:53

My best friend from college had this. Told girl at 20 week scan then out came a boy at 40 weeks. They just had the one scan though. Apparently the shops were very good about taking stuff back!

Grobagsforever · 07/10/2020 20:54

@FelicityPike

Yes a friend was told boy all the way through....went crazy buying “boy” things blue everything and had a little girl! She wasted so much money! That’s what happens when people try and pigeonhole their babies into old fashioned gender conforming nonsense like girls MUST wear pink.
@FelicityPike

Did you friend not realise that blue clothes also fit girls?

That's quite a worry

Grobagsforever · 07/10/2020 20:55

@OnlyFoolsnMothers

Ignore OP- I went pink crazy when I found out about DD1- awful Clearly as kids are only allowed to be is smudgy neutral colours otherwise we border on child abuse!
Sigh.

All colours ARE neutral. They don't have genitals, they're colours.

Whyemseeaye · 07/10/2020 20:56

It happened to me! I was told I was having a girl. I just knew that they were wrong. I could just feel it was a boy. Went to my next scan and asked them to check the sex again. It was a boy!

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 07/10/2020 20:58

Grobagsforever why anyone cares what colours I choose for my child is beyond me.

Grobagsforever · 07/10/2020 21:00

@OnlyFoolsnMothers

Grobagsforever why anyone cares what colours I choose for my child is beyond me.
Because pink is associated with being meek, cute etc. I don't want that for any girl.
OnlyFoolsnMothers · 07/10/2020 21:03

Lol Grobagsforever my daughter is anything but meek, I doubt she formed her personality from what she was put in at 3 months old.
Seems (mostly middle class) people are only happy having their boys in pink- are they worried they will be aggressive if they are put in a blue onesie?!

LolaSmiles · 07/10/2020 21:05

It happens occasionally, though if you're worried then it might be worth avoiding making loads of big purchases that are heavily gender coded.

Hannah12345625 · 07/10/2020 21:05

Thank you to those that replied a nice message or one that answered the question!!
I still don't see the need for all the negative comments on here. I am happy with any sex, I was just curious!! And in terms of colours that babies are dressed in, it's up to the individual parents what clothes they buy for their child! I don't see why so many people are being nasty to others about the choice of clothes they buy their babies.
I love reading all of these stories about how it has been wrong! It's so interesting! At my scans they have never mentioned that it could be wrong so I guess I can assume they are all right and it is a girl 😊
Like I have mentioned before.. I am so happy to be pregnant and so excited to bring this life into the world, whatever the sex... I just like knowing things in advance 😅

Anurulz · 07/10/2020 21:06

I would imagine 3 scans are pretty conclusive but be prepared anyways.
P.S. pink looks fine on boys - mine had lovely glow in pinks and peaches.. don't worry, enjoy your pregnancy..

Hannah12345625 · 07/10/2020 21:07

@Whyemseeaye I bet you were happy that you asked them to check the sex again!! Less surprises for the birth 😅😅
